Contractor locks school over unpaid bills
Khanapur: When student and teachers on monday reached their school in Rajura village of Khanapur mandal in Nirmal district they found it under lock and key.
On enquiry they discovered that it was the contractor who had locked the school in protest to get his pending bills.
Contractor Srinivas who had repaired the Zilla Parishad Secondary School in Rajura village had not received payment for the pending bills. On Monday, as a protest he locked the main gate of the school so that neither students nor teachers could enter the premises. With this, the students and teachers could not enter the school and stayed outside.
The upset contractor said that he had repaired the school buildings for about Rs 40 lakh and that he was facing difficulties in getting the bills cleared and not being able to pay the debts.
He went out holding a petrol can and said that he would commit suicide if the bills were not cleared. Some villagers also supported the contractor who locked the school. When the matter reached the police, they tried to convince the contractor. They spoke to the Panchayat Raj department and Engineering officials on the phone to pay the bills.
When the Engineering department officials suggested that he should come to the Collector's office and submit a petition to the Collector about the bills, the contractor Srinivas, calmed down and unlocked the door and went to the Collector's office.
The Engineering officials told the contractor Srinivas that they had already sent reports to the government for the sanction of the bill and that they would work to get the bills. They told him to calm down until the bills were cleared and cooperate for the education of the children.

Panvel land scam: ED probes BJP's JM Mhatre in Rs 52 cr forest grab case
MUMBAI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at two locations in Panvel and one location in Dadar to unearth a land scam and trace the proceeds of crime after registering a money laundering case against JM Mhatre of JM Mhatre Infrastructure. Authorities allege that Mhatre illegally acquired govt forest land. Mhatre served as a Peasants and Workers Party (PWP) leader for over three decades and was the former Panvel Municipal Council President. He recently joined the BJP. The ED's money laundering case is based on a complaint filed by the Forest Department, Uran, Alibagh Division at Panvel Police Station regarding forest land grab against different persons. It is alleged that the accused and others had illegally acquired the forest land and subsequent illegal transfer to NHAI to get compensation. It is alleged that the accused illegally acquired the government forest land by making duplicate entry in Mutation in 2005. J M Mhatre allegedly transferred 1.86 ha of land out of 4 hector to the NHAI and received Rs 42.4 cr as compensation and one Saiyyed Mohammad Abdul Hamid Qadri transferred 0.4225 Hectares of land to the NHAI and received Rs 9.69 cr.

Man fails to pay back loan, wife tied to tree by moneylender in Andhra
A 25-year-old woman was tied to a tree, assaulted and verbally abused by a loan shark in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district, after her husband failed to repay a incident occurred around 1 pm on Monday, when the woman, Sirisha, who had briefly returned to the village to collect her child's exam certificates, was spotted by a local moneylender, identified as Sirisha's husband, Thimmarayappa, had borrowed Rs 80,000 from Munikannappa three years ago. Unable to repay, the couple had left the village, Narayanapuram in the Kuppam mandal, with their children. Sirisha had since been working as a daily wage labourer to support her family and repay the seeing her, Munikannappa reportedly hurled abuses, dragged her to a neem tree, tied her with ropes, and beat her. He also threatened to kill her if the loan remained unpaid. When onlookers tried to record the incident, he allegedly attacked them as informed the police, and Kuppam police arrested Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu ordered strict action in the assault case. The Chief Minister immediately spoke to the District Superintendent of Police, who informed him that the accused had already been also directed the police to ensure such incidents do not recur. Noida Expressway stunt goes viral, couple slapped with Rs 53,500 fine

This isn't a scene from a movie — it's a dangerous stunt performed on the streets of Noida, now viral on social media. The five-second clip, which went viral on Sunday, shows neither of them wearing a helmet, though the woman casually holds one in her hand. The bike bears a Delhi number plate. Following this, the Noida Traffic Police has issued a challan of Rs 53,500 to the duo for performing the stunt on a moving motorcycle along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Lakhan Singh Yadav said they received information about the incident through a social media video in which the bike rider along with the pillion rider were seen violating traffic norms. Yadav said a challan of Rs 53,500 was issued. Speaking to The Indian Express, a senior police officer said, 'After taking the viral video into consideration we also verified it through cameras installed along the Expressway.' 'The challans were issued after they were found violating sections 181, 184, 184A and 194D of the Motor Vehicles Act. These sections mainly deal with driving without a licence, dangerous driving, disobedience of lawful directions, and riding without a helmet,' he added. 'We have alerted the traffic police and instructed them to take strict action against the duo. We are also appealing to people to not perform such stunts on any vehicle,' Yadav said. On May 24, a 25-year-old Delhi resident was booked for allegedly driving his SUV recklessly on Noida's streets and fined Rs 35,000. In videos that surfaced on social media, he was seen driving an SUV on a street near Amity University in Noida's Sector 125.
