Sanjay Raut demands Ajit Pawar's resignation over alleged ‘loot of funds' in Ladki Bahin scheme
Shiv Sena-Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Monday criticised Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and the handling of the Mukhyamantri Maajhi Laadki Bahin Yojana by the Maharashtra government's Finance Department, and demanded Mr. Ajit Pawar's resignation over alleged misappropriation of funds.
'Finance Minister Ajit Pawar has to atone as he let the loot of government funds happen. Ajit Pawar allowed men to avail benefits under the names of women, and let government employees become beneficiaries just to receive votes. So, he must resign,' Mr. Raut said at a media interaction in Nashik, when asked about Mr. Ajit Pawar's admission that there had been errors in the enforcement of the scheme.
Mr. Raut's criticism came after reports came to light of 2,289 government employees, who are not eligible to apply, availing benefits under the Ladki Bahin Yojana. While scrutinising over two lakh applications, 2,289 government employees were found to have benefited from the scheme, Women and Child Department Minister Aditi Tatkare has said.
The ruling Mahayuti government launched the Ladki Bahin Yojana in August 2024, ahead of the Assembly election in November that year. Under the scheme, eligible women (excluding government employees) are entitled to a monthly allowance of ₹1,500.
Mr. Ajit Pawar on Sunday said that a detailed verification process had been impossible due to shortage of time as the Assembly election neared, and clarified that 'no action will be taken against the government employees'.
'Who paid for this scheme? Who looted the money of this State? These leaders have allowed the money of this State to be looted. Who should atone for it?' Mr. Raut said, highlighting the need for stricter verification processes.

Watch: When Priyanka Chaturvedi mimicked Bilawal Bhutto's ‘koun raat ke…' remark
Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi took a jibe at former Pakistan foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, mimicking his tone as she responded to his recent remarks on India's Operation Sindoor. Bhutto had questioned the timing of the operation, saying, 'Koun raat ke andhere mein hamle karte hai? Buzdil raat ke andhere mein hamla karte hai' (Who attacks in the dark? Cowards do). Responding during an address to the Indian diaspora in Belgium, Chaturvedi said, 'Let me explain what buzdil (coward) means — those who stage coups against elected governments, jail political leaders, and murder an elected prime minister to install an army general in power.' She said that the same army general who came to power began radicalisation in Pakistan, destroying what was left of the constitution and shattering Jinnah's vision. She also mocked an upcoming Pakistani delegation, saying Pakistan has kept following India even after more than 70 years since their separation. 'A delegation is coming after us, and you all know which one that is. They have been chasing us and refuse to let go. We left them in 1947, but they haven't stopped following us,' she said. 'They'll be arriving in a few days. The person leading this delegation... I say all this only to put in context what India stands for, what we need to expose, and why we are here,' Chaturvedi added. Earlier, Chaturvedi had said that while India is actively pursuing global free trade agreements, Pakistan is instead promoting what she described as a 'free terrorist arrangement' worldwide. 'We have recently concluded a free trade agreement (FTA) with the United Kingdom. We also signed one with Australia some time ago. We are preparing to finalise similar agreements with the European Union and with the United States in the near future,' she said in London, speaking as part of an all-party delegation.

Former Sena corporator booked for drunk driving and assaulting doctor in Thane
Thane: The Rabodi police have booked a former Shiv Sena corporator for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, dangerously ramming his car into another vehicle, and assaulting a doctor in a road rage incident near Castle Mill area on Tuesday evening. As they approached the Meena Tai Thackeray Chowk, another car driven by Mahesh Wagh allegedly recklessly in the wrong lane collided with the doctor's vehicle. 'Those who murder elected PM': Priyanka Chaturvedi mocks Bilawal Bhutto's ‘buzdil' speech; slams Pakistan in Brussels
NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Wednesday delivered a scathing rebuke of Pakistan and its political-military establishment during a public address in Brussels, targeting former Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari without naming him. Referring to Bhutto's remarks, Chaturvedi said, 'The person who is leading the delegation, in his parliamentary speech, said 'Kon raat ke andhere mein hamle karte hain, Buzdil raat ke waqt hamle karte hain'... 'Buzdil' are those who do a coup on an elected government and after sending them to jail, murder the elected Prime Minister, so that the army can control the government.' Her comments referenced Bhutto's remarks on India's military response to Islamabad's terror attacks. Chaturvedi flipped that accusation, linking true cowardice to Pakistan's history of military coups and political assassinations, including the killing of Benazir Bhutto and the ousting of Imran Khan. In a sharp critique of the Pakistani state's support for terrorism , she called on the international community to confront Islamabad's role. Call them out in the UNSC... till you don't call them out, this is a failed fight against terrorism that the European Union is running. ' She highlighted India's resilience against Pakistan across fields—from military conflict to cricket—saying, 'We have decades of experience of showing them their place. Our armed forces have defeated them, we have defeated you in cricket, trade... How many more times do they want to get humiliated by us?' Her remarks came as part of an all-party parliamentary delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad currently touring Europe, including Belgium, to raise concerns about terrorism and highlight the Indian position on global platforms. The delegation includes BJP and Congress leaders, along with former diplomats, and is engaging with EU officials, think-tanks, and diaspora communities. The diplomatic effort follows the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and India's subsequent airstrikes on terror bases in Pakistan and PoK.
