Dubai Hosts Groundbreaking Global Meet on Eustachian Tube Research
The First International Conference on Eustachian Canal Research and Interventions concluded successfully at the Intercontinental Hotel Dubai, held alongside the 20th Middle East Academy of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Conference.
The landmark event brought together leading otolaryngologists and researchers from around the world to explore advancements and gaps in understanding the Eustachian tube — a small but critical component of the ear that often escapes focused attention in clinical practice.
Dr. Muath Tarabishi, President of the Conference, underscored the significance of hosting such a pioneering event in the UAE, calling it 'a milestone in the region's advancement in ENT care and research.' He emphasized that Dubai's role in bringing global experts together reflects its growing leadership in healthcare innovation.
He noted that discussions tackled key challenges in diagnosing and treating Eustachian tube dysfunction, particularly the need for tailored approaches across age groups. 'We expect the insights shared here to fuel the next wave of clinical breakthroughs,'
he added.
Dr. Dennis Poe, associate professor at Harvard Medical School and former chair of the International Working Group on Eustachian Tube (IWGET), said the meeting crystallized some of the field's most urgent clinical questions. 'We're now aligning global efforts to find evidence-based answers that will directly benefit patient care,'
he said.
As the conference closes, experts agree the dialogue it sparked marks a vital step forward in elevating global ENT standards — and in making Dubai a hub for medical progress in this often under-researched domain.

'Legacy will live on': Hundreds gather in Dubai to mourn renowned Indian doctor
Hundreds of people gathered at Al Quoz cemetery late on Sunday to bid farewell to Dr Nazar Moopan, a well-loved member of the medical community and nephew of Dr Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare. Well-wishers and friends flew in from India and other Gulf countries to pay their respects to the doctor who passed away peacefully in Dubai on Sunday, surrounded by his family. 'It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that we mourn the passing of Dr Nazar Moopan,' said Dr Azad Moopen. 'Dr Nazar was not only a pillar of our medical community but also a compassionate doctor, a committed leader, and a beloved colleague to many within the Aster family. For over two decades, Dr Nazar has worked at Aster DM Healthcare and at the time of his death, he was the Medical Director and ENT Consultant at the group's facility in Qatar. He is survived by his wife Wahida and his children Neda, Nimmi and Zain. According to Dr Azad, Dr Nazar 'dedicated his life to the service of others' for decades, exemplifying the values of integrity, excellence, and empathy. 'His contributions to healthcare in Qatar have left an indelible mark, and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his skill and kindness,' he said.

UAE showcases sustainable vision for human development, and balanced, agile labour market at International Labour Conference
4 June 2025 20:23 GENEVA (WAM)The UAE joined the 113th International Labour Conference held in Geneva, Switzerland, where it showcased its pioneering experience, sustainable vision for human development, leadership in embracing innovative economic strategies, and efforts to develop a balanced and agile labour were some key highlights in the keynote address delivered by Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and head of the UAE delegation to the main session of the Conference. The meeting is set to continue until June 13, 2025, bringing together representatives from the governments of ILO member states, along with advocates for employers and workers.'The Report of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Director-General being discussed at this year's Conference presents a comprehensive vision that resonates with the UAE's approach to developing a balanced and agile labour market that places people at the core of its priorities,' he said in his address.'Guided by the forward-thinking vision of its wise leadership, the UAE has succeeded in transforming global challenges into development opportunities built on economic efficiency, equity, and a strong commitment to decent work standards," Al Awar Awar explained that the UAE has adopted a pioneering model for economic diversification, with non-oil sectors contributing 74% of the country's GDP by the end of last year, and GDP expected to grow by more than 4% this year, according to a World Bank report. He noted that this forms part of a holistic vision for an economic model centred around partnership, flexibility, and an empowering environment that champions innovation and the knowledge economy, and embraces modern technological developments in the labour market, all while maintaining the UAE's strategic approach to invest in people and empower human Awar further highlighted the UAE's human development efforts, which led to the Emirates being ranked in the Very High Human Development category in the 2025 Human Development Index Report issued by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), placing first in the region for the second consecutive year and ranking 15th globally among 193 milestone, Al Awar said, affirms the UAE's commitment to a comprehensive development vision that puts people at the heart of national policies through an integrated system serving vital sectors such as health, education, and living standards. In effect, this positions the UAE as a global model for sustainability, human capital empowerment, and building a future with vast prospects and empowerment opportunities.'According to the report, the UAE recorded the third-highest net global inflow of talent specialising in artificial intelligence via LinkedIn in 2023, showcasing the country's ability to attract global expertise and confirming its status as a leading talent hub in this vital field,'' Al Awar his remarks, he added, "The UAE has recognised the structural transformations underway in the labour market and the importance of adapting to them. To that end, the Emirates has sought to develop a pioneering legislative framework suited to this new era, reinforcing a robust system for labour protection, and working to ensure balance in safeguarding workers' and employers' rights. This included the launch of a range of initiatives covering all categories of workers in the UAE, including the Workers Protection Programme, Unemployment Insurance Scheme, the Savings Scheme, Wage Protection System, and Health Insurance System.'Al Awar went on to assert that the UAE's efforts have directly impacted its labour market and sustainable development. The UAE labour market experienced a 17% growth in new private sector companies, and an increase of over 12% in the overall workforce by the end of 2024, while the number of skilled professionals rose by over a 13%, more than half of whom are young people. Similarly, women's participation in the national labour market also grew by around 21%.Al Awar confirmed that this remarkable growth in the labour market, coupled with the UAE's modern regulatory frameworks, has allowed the country to earn the top global ranks in nine global competitiveness indicators in 2024, including employment rate, talent attraction, and labour market flexibility. Dubai hosts Emirates Critical Care Conference
The 21st Emirates Critical Care Conference commenced on Friday at the InterContinental Festival City Hotel in Dubai, held in parallel with the 2nd World Summit of the World Federation of Intensive and Critical Care (WFICC). The event also runs concurrently with the 7th Global Network for Emergency Medicine (GNEM), the 16th Asia Africa Conference of the WFICC, and is organised in collaboration with the Seventh Conference of the Emirates Nursing Association – Critical Care Chapter. In addition, it is held alongside the 20th World Conference of Critical Care Nurses (WFCCN) World Congress and the 21st International Pan Arab Critical Care Medicine Society Conference (IPACCMS). Prof. Dr. Hussein Al Rahma, Chairman of the Conference, said that the conference, which began in 2004 with the participation of 300 doctors and nurses, is today the first in the Middle East and North Africa and the third in the world. It attracts over 2,000 participants annually from across the world, with this year's edition welcoming attendees from 45 countries. Prof Al Rahma noted that the conference, organised by Info Plus Events, currently attracts 60% of international medical associations. He expressed his aspiration to increase this figure to over 90% by 2028, especially given the significant annual growth in both the number of international speakers and the quality of scientific papers presented, as well as the diversity of accompanying workshops. Prof Al Rahma emphasised that the conference aims to bring together leading doctors, specialists, and researchers in the field of intensive and critical care from the Middle East and around the world to exchange expertise. The event also serves as a platform to discuss advancements in mechanical ventilation techniques, the latest pharmaceutical developments, and cutting-edge findings in critical care medicine. The President of the Conference highlighted that this year's edition features 275 speakers, including 130 international and 80 local experts. Over the course of the three-day event, attendees will benefit from 381 lectures across 77 scientific sessions, in addition to four scientific workshops, four training courses, and six industry-focused seminars.
