Since the Galaxy Ring launched last summer, I've been wearing it regularly and have had plenty of time to explore what it can do. I've come to appreciate how effortlessly it collects data on things like skin temperature, heart rate variability, and sleep (one of the reasons it made our list of the best smart rings). Most mornings, I open the Samsung Health app to check in on my recovery and cycle, and more often than not, the insights feel surprisingly in tune with how I actually feel.
That said, I haven't worn the ring every single day and night. As a big part of my job involves testing wearables and writing about health tech, there are times when I need a break from constantly analyzing my own well-being. After a while, even the best insights can start to feel like information overload, like when my Garmin watch flagged a potential heart issue.
Still, when I've used the Galaxy Ring consistently, I've found it to be an insightful tool, particularly when it comes to menstrual cycle tracking. But how accurate is it? And what should you know before relying on it for reproductive health? I tested it across several cycles and asked Dr. Lisa Becht, a board-certified OBGYN and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Specialist, to weigh in.
Here's what I learned.
To look at, the Samsung Galaxy ring doesn't scream 'femtech'. First of all, it's unisex, it's fairly minimal looking, and if you get the gold or silver finish, it looks more like a piece of jewelry than a health tracker. But under the surface, it gathers key metrics that feed into Samsung's Cycle Tracking feature via the Samsung Health app. These include skin temperature changes during sleep, heart rate, sleep stages, and respiratory rate.
Cycle Tracking uses a combination of calendar-based prediction and retrospective temperature trend analysis, powered in part by Natural Cycles, a digital birth control app cleared by the FDA. You'll need to manually enter the first day of your period, but from there, the Galaxy Ring uses data from your body to estimate fertile windows and ovulation.
Unlike the Oura Ring, which requires both an Oura Membership ($5.99/month after a free trial) and a separate Natural Cycles subscription ( $21.99/month or $149.99/year), the Galaxy Ring offers these features without additional subscription fees.

In my testing, I found the Samsung Galaxy Ring predictions to be impressively accurate. That said, if you're used to more granular ovulation data like LH test strips or cervical mucus tracking, Samsung's system may feel a little vague to you. You don't get a specific ovulation date or fertility score, just a general window and phase updates.
To better understand how the Samsung Galaxy Ring fits into the broader picture of cycle tracking and why that matters for anyone trying to better understand their fertility, I spoke with Dr. Lisa Becht, a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist (OBGYN) and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Specialist.
While she emphasized that wearables are not diagnostic tools, she explained they can help users gain a clearer view of their cycles and, in some cases, prompt earlier conversations about fertility with a healthcare provider.
'Consumer wearables are gaining popularity and can help patients track their cycles and fertility more effectively,' Dr. Becht told me. 'With accurate tracking, this could quicken the time to pregnancy for some. For others, if they are not detecting potential ovulation, it may lead to a patient seeking care earlier, which is great.'
That said, she cautioned that the markers wearables rely on, like temperature and heart rate shifts, are subtle. 'Changes in temperature, heart rate, etc, that could denote ovulation and potential early pregnancy are very small changes, so it might not always be detected accurately,' she said.
'Some patients may get false confidence from the results, and this could delay them in seeking fertility care. So overall, I think this technology is helpful as long as a patient is aware of its limitations.'
There's no doubt that the Galaxy Ring makes cycle tracking more accessible. You don't need to log symptoms daily, take your temperature manually, or wear a bulky wrist tracker to bed. It does the hard work while you sleep and rolls that data into clear visuals in the Samsung Health app.
But it's not a complete cycle tracking tool. You won't get pinpoint ovulation confirmation, and as Dr. Becht noted, the biological signals it relies on can be too subtle to detect accurately.
If you have irregular cycles, the limitations become more pronounced. "Use wearables with caution," Dr. Becht advised. "They can be helpful, but if you have long or irregular cycles, seek care earlier with an OB/GYN or fertility doctor."
The Galaxy Ring won't replace ovulation test kits, and it shouldn't be your only tool for cycle tracking if you're actively trying to conceive. But it is a solid step forward in making cycle tracking passive, consistent, and wearable.
If you're already in the Samsung ecosystem, the Galaxy Ring offers a polished, subscription-free way to keep tabs on your overall health and cycle. It's especially useful if you want an easy way to spot trends or bring something tangible to your next gynecology appointment. Just be sure to pair it with education, realistic expectations, and ideally, professional guidance.
As for the future? Dr. Becht hopes wearables will continue to evolve. "Increasing technology and precision will hopefully improve the ability of these devices to support women's cycle tracking and reproductive health,' she said.

Samsung's HW-S60D could be one of the best soundbars… but only if you have a Samsung TV. While the S60D has a range of premium features that make its $349 MSRP much more appealing, said features are restricted to Samsung TVs. Features like Wireless Dolby Atmos and Active Voice Analyzer are unfortunately only available on compatible Samsung TVs, so I was unable to experience these while testing on my Panasonic. That's not to say the S60D is a bad soundbar — if you've got a Samsung TV, it could be a great way to upgrade from the built-in TV speakers for a relatively affordable price. However, if you've got any other brand (or an older Samsung model), then you'd be better off with something else. Don't worry, I'll go through all the details in my Samsung HW-S60D soundbar review. Price $349 / £359 Connectivity HDMI, Optical, Bluetooth Weight 6 pounds Dimensions 26.3 x 2.4 x 4.1 inches Colors Black Subwoofer No Dolby Atmos No; Wireless Dolby Atmos only with Samsung TV Channel 5.0 The Samsung S60D is $347 on Amazon U.S., but its MSRP on Samsung U.S. is $349. The S60D has an RRP of £359 in the U.K. but is available for just £279 on Amazon U.K.. £279 is a much better price for this soundbar — I think £359 is pretty steep considering you can get the Polk Signa S4 soundbar and subwoofer for just £329 (a 3.1.2 channel setup as opposed to the S60D's 5.0). If you're a home theater newbie looking for your first home setup, I wholeheartedly recommend the Polk Signa S4. It's got a subwoofer and soundbar for just $399. The Signa S4 is my go-to recommendation for beginners, as it's relatively affordable and sounds just as good as some of the $500+ options. Honestly, there's not really much to say about the S60D's appearance. It looks like a soundbar. They all look the same. Still, there's nothing inherently negative about that — there's a style, and it works. The S60D is quite inconspicuous, but it's deeper than the S801D's tiny 1.5-inch depth. It's not one if you need a super slim soundbar — the Polk Signa S4 I praised earlier could help you out there at just 2.4 inches deep. Although the S60D is unassuming in appearance, it's very easy to set up. I only had to plug it in and connect with an HDMI cable to my Panasonic MZ1500 4K OLED and it was ready to go. I love the on-bar buttons: there's volume, mic, and an on/off button. You don't need to use these, though: the S60D comes with a lovely remote control that has a range of features, including channel level and listening modes. The Samsung remote is much better than the Bose remote, which I find lacking in features. As with other Samsung soundbars, the S60D uses the Smart Things app. This is one of the best smart home apps I've ever used. I'm already familiar with it as I own a Samsung washing machine, and I can't lie — it's nice to see my virtual home fill up with more products. You can name each product to whatever you like (Soundbar McSoundbarface, anyone?). As you can see, there's a range of playback modes in the Smart Things app. I found that DTS Virtual X sounded the best across a range of movies and TV shows. You can even increase center and surround channel speakers to imitate true surround sound (but obviously it isn't 'true' surround as there's no Dolby Atmos on this soundbar, and there aren't enough channels). As with the Samsung S801D Ultra Slim soundbar I recently tested, the S60D's flagship features are restricted to Samsung TVs. As I was testing on our Panasonic testing TV, unfortunately, these features were lost to me. I think this is a fair criticism, as not everyone has a Samsung TV, therefore virtually limiting users of this soundbar to Samsung loyalists. It's a shame that I couldn't experience 'Wireless Dolby Atmos' as this was the mode I was most excited about. However, the DTS Virtual X listening mode made a valiant effort to create a Dolby Atmos experience. The S60D claims it has Dolby Atmos, but it doesn't really. The upfiring channel speakers don't perform adeptly enough to create an immersive experience, and Wireless Dolby Atmos is limited to Samsung TVs, as I just mentioned. Of course you can still use it (and enjoy it, as I did), but it's a shame that these major features are restricted. I'm sure that the room calibration feature, Space Fit Sound Pro, works a treat. I just didn't get the opportunity to experience it in all its glory. There are still a range of sound modes, though, including 'Standard', 'Game', 'Music' and 'DTS Virtual X'. I found that DTS Virtual X was pretty good at tricking my brain into thinking I was listening with true Dolby Atmos, as I'll get into below. As I watched movies with this soundbar, I actually felt like I had a full surround setup. However, I do think the S60D could benefit from a dialogue enhancement sound mode. There were a few moments in 'A Complete Unknown' where I couldn't hear anything. That's definitely to do with the acting and sound mixing as well (the S60D isn't completely guilty), but is something to note if you struggle with hearing already. As I do with all soundbars I test, I watched various movies and TV shows, and listened to music. I watched 'Top Gun: Maverick', 'The Wild Robot', 'A Complete Unknown' on 4K UHD Blu-Ray, 'Stranger Things' on Netflix, and a range of music via Qobuz. Before we start, a word of warning: do not use 'Standard' audio mode, as it's really tinny. Like, really tinny. Just skip immediately to DTS Virtual X. As always, I watched 'Top Gun: Maverick' on 4K Blu-Ray. To see how immersive it could be, I upped the channel speakers to attempt Dolby Atmos. However, this didn't really improve the surround sound experience. As this soundbar doesn't have surround sound, I wasn't expecting it to mimic true 360° audio anyway. The high-frequency sounds like metal clinking and ropes swishing were a little lost with the bassy soundtrack. The jet engine sounds overpowered these smaller sound effects — I'd say the audio in this specific Top Gun scene was comparable to the Bose Smart Soundbar ($499). The louder parts of the soundtrack fell a little flat, but it's easily overlookable. It's good, but not mind-blowing. Next, I watched 'A Complete Unknown'. The singing sounded good, but there wasn't much clarity in the vocals. Dialogue scenes were a little overpowered by the soundtrack. I thought the semi-mumbled dialogue could be the problem, but I was able to hear this on the Samsung S801D. Also, I feel like loads of movies nowadays have mostly muted speech. The Samsung 60D lacks the AI voice-enhancing tech I've seen on other soundbars like the Polk Signa S4's 3 'voice adjust' modes. Samsung does have an Adaptive Sound mode for enhanced audio, but, again, this is restricted to Samsung TVs, which is a major disappointment. Last, I watched 'The Wild Robot'. There's one particular scene that's excellent for immersive audio, where the goose character is swimming for the first time. I use this always use this scene to test soundbars — the sound mixing here is excellent. Splashes in seemingly 360°, feathers rustling, and plenty of underwater bubble sounds. Even though the S60D doesn't have Dolby Atmos, the swimming scene sounded immersive and expansive. I felt like I could have been immersed in the water myself. However, it's worth noting that the water sounds weren't as clear as on the Samsung D801D Ultra Slim soundbar. To test TV, I watched 'Stranger Things'. Again, some dialogue was a bit quiet, mostly the gruffer actors like David Harbour, but I could hear all of the kids' speech clearly. In a few scenes, I felt a little overwhelmed; the dialogue was sibilance-heavy yet muffled at the same time. However, in general, the audio was good. Not excellent, but good, and way, way better than TV speakers ever could be. In the scene where Will is hiding from the monster, I felt immersed in his fear, and could hear the hissing lightbulb and his rapid breathing clearly. It was just in louder school scenes that the ambient noise overpowered the dialogue a little. 'Music' mode did enhance the dialogue a bit, but it lost some of the DTS Virtual X mode's immersive experience. It's a toss up: clear dialogue, or more surround immersion? I settled for the surround sound. Just as with the Samsung S801D soundbar, listening to music on the S60D soundbar was merely fine. It's not amazing, and it won't impress anyone really serious about the music. But does it do the trick? Sure, it's better than an Alexa or Google Home, but if you want a good speaker, you'll need to buy a speaker (or two). I listened to 'Let It Happen' by Tame Impala. While the synth mids and vocals were clear and powerful, the percussion and bass were both extremely lacking and disappointing. Next, I listened to 'Moaning Lisa Smile' by Wolf Alice, hoping to get some oomph. The heavy, grungy chorus was loud and effectual, but again, that percussion was rather tinny. Even so, I had a good time listening to music on this soundbar, but it wouldn't be the first thing I reached for for a party. If you've got a Samsung TV, you'll likely have a better experience than me. However, it's worth criticising the Samsung ecosystem for barring the best features from third-party TVs. Panasonic, Sony, TCL, and LG TVs are still incredibly popular in the U.S. and the U.K., and there's a good chance that you don't have a Samsung TV. So, if you've got a Samsung TV, then sure, this could be a great soundbar — I just couldn't test any of its flagship features. But if you have any other brand, it's just a good soundbar. I think you can get a much better deal with the Polk Signa S4 ($399 for a 3.1.2 channel, as opposed to $349 for a 5.0 setup).

At the same time, in an update to its immunization schedule posted May 29th, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention include the option of COVID-19 vaccines for healthy children and pregnant women. Based on the language used by CDC, it suggests the agency aims for a shared decision-making approach in which individuals consult with their doctor prior to getting a shot. We witnessed a preview of the new FDA approach when the agency made an unusual decision to limit the approval of the nation's only non-mRNA coronavirus vaccine, Novavax's nuvaxovid, for use only in adults 65 and older or those 12 to 64 who have at least one health problem that puts them at increased risk from COVID-19. To be indicated for a broader population, the FDA plans to require that vaccine makers conduct booster trials to demonstrate effectiveness in people under 65 or without certain risks. These trials could take a year to complete, according to a STAT report. As such, it's not something that can be accomplished prior to the autumn, even if Novavax, Pfizer, or Moderna, wished to pursue this pathway. Similar to annual flu shots, which adapt to new strains, COVID-19 boosters update immunity to target evolving variants. Data from several years of booster campaigns show lower hospitalization and death rates for boosted individuals compared to unvaccinated people or those who haven't gotten boosters. This particularly applies to the vulnerable subpopulations, stratified by age and underlying health conditions. The COVID-19 vaccines, both mRNA and non-mRNA, are recommended for anyone who is over 65 or who has a medical condition that can increase the risk of severe illness or death. Underlying conditions include, among other things, obesity, 'physical inactivity,' diabetes, clinical depression and being immunocompromised. It's estimated that between 100 and 200 million Americans will still be eligible for vaccination due to having such health issues. Nevertheless, this raises questions for people who don't have underlying health conditions and are under 65 but would like to get a COVID-19 shot this fall. The FDA and CDC appear to differ subtly in terms of their current advice for healthy individuals under 65. Is it possible for these folks to obtain a jab at the pharmacy with no questions asked? Or will they have to go to their doctor and be granted de facto permission to get the shot? Perhaps equally important, will their insurer pay for it? As the New York Times explains, insurance companies may serve as the 'gatekeepers by demanding medical documentation of an underlying condition before agreeing to cover the cost.' The out-of-pocket cost to patients could be as much $140 a shot. Top FDA officials Prasad and Makary advocate an 'evidence-based' approach to COVID-19 vaccination. They also write of aligning policy with Europe. Indeed, in most instances, European public health authorities have adopted a targeted approach that aims at ensuring the elderly and those with underlying health conditions get boosted. This means that outreach campaigns in European countries only target subpopulations for which the vaccine is recommended by the respective public health authority. This is unlike the universal recommendations previously issued by the CDC that didn't differentiate by age or risk factors. However, the European agencies in charge of vaccine approval, the EMA and MHRA, haven't suggested marketing authorization changes, such as narrowing the indication based on age, for any of the approved COVID-19 vaccines.

Blood test-guided treatment with AstraZeneca pill cut risk of breast cancer progression, study finds

By Julie Steenhuysen CHICAGO (Reuters) -Treating breast cancer patients with AstraZeneca's experimental pill camizestrant at the first sign of resistance to standard treatments cut the risk of disease progression or death by half, a finding that could change the way such cancers are treated, cancer experts said on Sunday. The results, presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting in Chicago, mark the first use of a blood test called a liquid biopsy to indicate the need for a change in treatment in women with a common form of breast cancer, even before tumor growth can be detected on imaging. The early switch approach in women with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer resulted in a 56% reduction in the risk of disease progression or death, said Dr. Eleonora Teplinsky, an oncologist at Valley-Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Care and an ASCO breast cancer expert. "When patients progress on scans, we're already behind," Teplinsky said at a media briefing. She said an early switch approach, before disease progression, allows doctors "to essentially stay ahead of the curve." Camizestrant is not yet FDA-approved, but Teplinsky believes the data will likely result in a new treatment paradigm. The trial involved 3,256 patients with advanced hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer, the most common type in which hormones such as estrogen fuel cancer growth. These cancers lack high levels of HER2, another cancer driver. Women in the trial had at least six months of treatment with aromatase inhibitors that block hormones fueling the cancer, as well as targeted drugs called CDK4/6 inhibitors such as Novartis' Kisqali, Pfizer's Ibrance or Lilly's Verzenio, which block an enzyme that fuels cancer growth. About 40% of patients treated with aromatase inhibitors develop mutations in the estrogen receptor 1 gene called ESR1 mutations, a sign of early drug resistance. Camizestrant and similar drugs called Selective Estrogen Receptor Degraders (SERDS) block estrogen receptor signaling in cancer cells. In the trial, researchers used blood tests to look for ESR1 mutations until 315 patients were identified. They were randomly assigned to either switch to camizestrant plus the CDK4/6 inhibitor (157 patients) or continue with standard treatment plus a placebo (158 patients). The researchers found that it took 16 months for the disease to progress in women who got camizestrant, compared with 9.2 months in those who continued on standard therapy, a statistically significant difference in progression-free survival. No new side effects were reported and few patients from either group dropped out due to side effects. "This is going to be very impactful for our patients," said Dr. Hope Rugo, head of breast medical oncology at City of Hope in Duarte, California. The question, she said, is how do doctors incorporate the testing into clinical practice. Separately, adding AstraZeneca's immunotherapy durvalumab to standard treatment before and after surgery in patients with early-stage stomach and esophageal cancers helped extend the time patients had without cancer progression or recurrence compared to chemotherapy alone. The global study of nearly 950 patients tested durvalumab, sold under the brand Imfinzi, in combination with a chemotherapy regimen called FLOT given around the time of initial cancer surgery. Patients in the durvalumab plus FLOT arm experienced a 29% better event-free survival than those who received the chemotherapy regimen. "We demonstrate that immunotherapy works in early-stage disease, which is great," lead study author Dr. Yelena Jarnigan of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York told reporters at the meeting. "We did not see any new safety signals, so this will change practice for our patients, which is exciting to see." Both studies were published on Sunday in the New England Journal of Medicine.
