Rise in Vizag AEO-certified entities
Visakhapatnam: With rising Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) adoption, India is steadily positioning itself as a trusted player in global trade, observed Chief Commissioner of Customs and Central Tax, Visakhapatnam Zone Sanjay Rathi.At a seminar on authorised economic operators held in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, he highlighted the growing importance of the AEO in strengthening India's trade ecosystem.
Organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), the seminar witnessed participation of over 100 stakeholders from the import-export and logistics industry. 'The number of AEO-certified entities in Visakhapatnam zone has increased to 118, up from 46 earlier, reflecting growing industry awareness and trust in the scheme,' Sanjay Rathi stressed.
Underscoring India's broader logistics progress, he pointed out that India has climbed to 38th position in the World Bank's Logistics Performance Index (LPI) 2023, a significant jump from the 54th rank in 2014. Principal Commissioner, Directorate of International Customs, Delhi, Akil Kumar Khatri highlighted that the AEO programme, launched 14 years ago, is a voluntary initiative by customs to identify and support trusted businesses involved in international trade. It helps reduce delays, speeds up clearances, and offers global recognition through mutual agreements with other countries, making trade safer, faster, and more efficient for compliant importers, exporters, and logistics providers.
Immediate past chairman, CII Rajesh Grandhi underlined the need for continuous policy improvement and shared key industry suggestions, including extending the deferred duty payment window to 30 days.
Past chairman of CII G Sambasiva Rao highlighted the growing role of Andhra Pradesh in global trade. He noted that the state has contributed nearly USD 20 billion in merchandise exports in FY 2024–25, led by key sectors such as marine products, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, engineering goods, and minerals. N Sridhar, Principal Commissioner, Custom House, Visakhapatnam, Pradeep Kumar, Joint Commissioner, Directorate of International Customs, Delhi, G Krishna Mohan, vice chairman, CII and other senior customs officials spoke.

IGBC plans tie-up with Bengal to promote green buildings
Kolkata: The Indian Green Building Council is open to collaborating with state govt to promote green buildings under Bangla Awas Yojana. The IGBC proposal was supported by state finance minister Chandrima Bhattacharya during Green Building Summit 2025, organised by CII and IGBC in the city on Friday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Bhattacharya said a public-private partnership model for green buildings could be explored to enhance net-zero and climate-resilient infrastructure. "The govt is providing incentives like a 10% additional floor area ratio to green buildings in KMC and NKDA areas," she said. Bengal currently has about 900 IGBC-registered green building projects. M Anand, deputy executive director of IGBC, said: "We are planning to work with Bengal govt for development of green homes under Bangla Awas Yojana." Sushil Mohta, chairman of IGBC Kolkata, said: "Every rupee invested in green buildings saves Rs 3 to Rs 7 in operational costs. We request the govt for fast-track approvals of green projects."

Reforestation key in achieving net zero targets: Experts
Ahmedabad: The rapid growth of the Indian economy necessitates a balanced approach towards carbon emissions through enhanced green coverage and reforestation initiatives, according to specialists at the Green Gujarat Summit 2025. The summit, held on Friday, was jointly coordinated by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), and Urban Development and Housing Department, Govt of Gujarat. CREDAI's national president, Shekhar Patel, emphasised the importance of promoting green building and net zero concepts amongst the public. He stated, "We need to take the green building and net zero movement to the people. India aims to become a developed nation by 2047, and growth will be faster, so there is a need to bring balance, and we can achieve it by increasing green cover. Reforestation will be key to achieving carbon neutrality, and at CREDAI, we have launched a mission to reforest 1 lakh acres in five years. We are going to nurture five crore trees." IGBC Ahmedabad's co-chairman, Taral Shah, highlighted the business advantages of green buildings, noting their popularity among multinational companies. "The state govt also started offering incentives to green buildings, which will encourage more developers to go for it. Green building construction cost is now just around 5% higher compared to normal buildings, but it helps save electricity cost in a big way," Shah added.
