On time and on budget: Calgary's street sweeping is now done

The City of Calgary says its annual street cleaning operations finished on time and on budget, though thousands of tickets were issued. Street sweeping began in mid-April and wrapped up on Wednesday. 'About 200 staff have been diligently working Monday through Friday to clear neighbourhoods of debris, and have now completed the residential program 100 per cent on schedule,' the city said in a Friday news release. The project came in within the budget of approximately $7.5 million. 'Through the course of the program, the team picked up a whopping 19 million kilograms of gravel and other debris from Calgary's streets – the equivalent weight of approximately 11,875 four-door sedans,' said the city. Officials say 31 sweepers clear more than 17,000 kilometres of roadway during the annual project. City of Calgary street cleaning City of Calgary street cleaning.
