Simone Inzaghi leaves Inter Milan days after Champions League final hammering
Simone Inzaghi has left his position as manager of Inter Milan, after a humiliating 5-0 loss in the Champions League final against Paris St Germain capped a trophyless season.
Inter suffered a dismal end to their campaign with Saturday's thrashing in Munich coming after they finished second in Serie A, one point behind champions Napoli, and were knocked out in the Coppa Italia semi-finals 4–1 on aggregate by city rivals AC Milan.
Inter face a race against time to appoint a new manager before the Club World Cup, with their campaign getting underway against Mexican side Monterrey on June 18.
"The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a four-year journey, during which I gave everything," Inzaghi said in a separate statement.
Inzaghi won six trophies at Inter: one Serie A title, two Coppa Italia triumphs and three Italian Super Cups.
"I want to dedicate one last word to the millions of Nerazzurri (Inter) fans who cheered me on, cried and suffered in difficult moments and laughed and celebrated in the six triumphs we experienced together," he added.
Italian media reported that Inzaghi will join Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal and will lead them in the Club World Cup in the United States.
Inter confirmed that the decision for Inzaghi to leave the club was taken by mutual agreement earlier in the day.
"I would like to thank Simone Inzaghi for the work done, for the passion shown and also for the sincerity in today's discussion, which led to the common decision to separate our paths," club president Giuseppe Marotta said in a statement.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Como's Cesc Fabregas and Olympique de Marseille's Roberto De Zerbi are potential candidates to replace Inzaghi at Inter.

Trump travel ban includes exemption for World Cup and Olympic athletes
Donald Trump's newly signed travel ban contains an exemption that could apply to players, staff or associated families with clubs participating in the 2025 Club World Cup, 2026 Fifa World Cup or the 2028 Olympics. The US president has signed a sweeping order banning travel from 12 countries and restricting travel from seven others, reviving and expanding the travel bans from his first term. The nationals of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen will be 'fully' restricted from entering the US, according to the proclamation. Meanwhile, the entry of nationals of Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela will be partially restricted. There is an exemption, however, outlined in section 4 of the order, which states that 'any athlete or member of an athletic team, including coaches, persons performing a necessary support role, and immediate relatives, traveling for the World Cup, Olympics, or other major sporting event as determined by the secretary of state' are not subject to the ban. A Fifa spokesperson declined to comment when asked if the governing body had lobbied for the exception's placement. The Fifa president, Gianni Infantino, has gone out of his way to appear publicly with Trump in recent months, taking a seat next to the president at the first public meeting of his World Cup taskforce and arriving late to the Fifa Congress in order to meet with Trump during his tour of the Middle East. It is also not clear whether the 'World Cup' mentioned in the exemption applies to to both the 2026 World Cup involving international teams and the 2025 Club World Cup, which will feature many of the world's top club teams in venues across the US this year. Also unclear is whether the ban will force US-based players who play internationally for countries subject to the ban to return from the current Fifa international window early. Venezuela, for example, have three players on its squad who play in Major League Soccer. They are scheduled to play two World Cup qualifiers: one against Bolivia on Friday night and another against Uruguay on Tuesday. Trump's travel ban is set to come into action on Monday, June 9. Teams that have qualified for the Club World Cup currently employ 10 players from countries named in the travel ban. They are: Inter Miami's Telasco Segovia (Venezuela), Botafogo's Jefferson Savarino (Venezuela), Espérance de Tunis's Roger Aholou (Togo), LAFC's David Martínez (Venezuela), Internazionale's Mehdi Taremi (Iran), Ulsan's Matías Lacava (Venezuela), Al-Ain's Kodjo Fo-Doh Laba (Togo), Josna Loulendo (Republic of Congo) and Mohamed Awadalla (Sudan), as well as Pachuca's Salomón Rondón (Venezuela). Only one country on the travel ban list, Iran, has already qualified for the 2026 World Cup. Venezuela are seventh in South American qualifying, five points behind Colombia for an automatic World Cup place but still in the picture to qualify via an inter-confederation playoff. Equatorial Guinea and Libya are mathematically still alive in African qualifying but unlikely to progress to the next round. Sudan are third in their World Cup qualifying group, just one point from automatic qualification. Haiti look good to reach the next round of Concacaf World Cup qualification. How Chelsea's £30million transfer signing Liam Delap can reinvigorate ex-Man City pal Cole Palmer in Blues masterplan
CHELSEA are ready to rock and roll thanks to Liam and Cole. Blues 'brothers' Liam Delap and Cole Palmer were made in Manchester, at City's academy, but have been reunited at Stamford Bridge. 4 Liam Delap (left) and Cole Palmer celebrate a goal for Manchester City's academy side Credit: Alamy 4 Delap has joined Palmer at Chelsea for £30million Credit: Getty And He can reinvigorate They will even be side by side with shirt numbers - When the Blues signed Palmer, 23, for £42.5m, in what now looks like a cut-price deal, not many knew the talent that they had on their hands - but anyone who had watched City's youth sides knew, including the club's former academy coach READ MORE IN FOOTBALL Delap, 22, can play a vital role for the Blues - he's electric with his pace, direct running and movement. He starred alongside But it will also improve Palmer, who tailed off last season despite netting 15 Prem goals. It might seem like it's half the world away, but in one City Under-21 game against Spurs, they ran out 6-1 winners with Delap hitting a hat-trick, Palmer scoring twice and Lavia netting the other. Most read in Football Delap and Palmer wasn't always a Harry Kane and Son Heung-min partnership where both would rack up huge goal contribution numbers - though that did happen enough. It was more about Delap's movement and interplay allowing Palmer to be even more dangerous and get into the box with more ease. 'To do what-' - Cole Palmer left confused as he's asked to name his Premier League Mount Rushmore We've seen in games this season that because Palmer has been a lone threat at times, he can be doubled up on and nullified - but with Delap in the side that becomes much more difficult. In City's youth team, Palmer, Felix Nmecha and Samuel Edozie benefited from Delap's movement, as he would occupy the centre backs and allow Nmecha and Palmer to get shots off inside the box. CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS In Manchester, Maresca knew how to get the best out of Delap by giving him the same kind of freedom Nicolas Jackson has been given up front, as he could drift wide or drop deep on the premise that when needed he would be in the right place at the right time to get the finishing touch. When you add the incoming Estevao Willian to that mix, as well as the ever-improving Noni Madueke and Enzo Fernandez - some might say they will be unstoppable. 4 4 It will be interesting to see how the Blues go at the Club World Cup in America, which will hardly be an Oasis of calm.
