Mayor of Amsterdam calls for end to destruction, starvation of Palestinians in Gaza

Saba Yemen14-05-2025

Amsterdam - Saba:
Mayor of Amsterdam Femke Halsema called on Wednesday the Dutch government to take a firm stand against the destruction, starvation, and brutal killing of Palestinians in Gaza.
According to Russia Today, Halsema confirmed on Wednesday that "the fate of the Gazans deeply affects many residents of the Dutch capital."
This came during a City Council session, where she warned against double standards in dealing with human rights crises.
Citing reports from the Dutch National Institute for Security Studies and international human rights organizations, Halsema said: "It is not unreasonable to talk about genocidal violence in Gaza.
It is time to put aside political differences and focus on saving lives."
She added that the international community, including the Netherlands, is obligated to stand against human rights violations.
Halsema announced that she will send an official letter to the Dutch cabinet tomorrow, urging it to pressure Israel to immediately cease violence and exercise restraint, support practical measures to end the destruction of Gaza and prevent starvation in the Strip, and recognize UN recommendations that indicate "practices that may amount to genocide" in the Gaza Strip.
She said, "The government's talk about stopping the violence will be meaningless without concrete steps to enforce peace."
Halsema's position comes days after the Utrecht City Council adopted a motion criticizing the Dutch government's "reservation" to describe the events in Gaza as "genocide," despite the term being consistent with reports by Amnesty International and the United Nations.
A majority of parties emphasized that the use of precise language is a "moral issue."
This comes amid mounting public pressure in the Netherlands to take a firm stance against the bloody Israeli war on Gaza.
It also comes amid controversy over the term "genocide," which has sparked European discussions after Spain officially used it.

Enemy Media: Israel arms militia tasked with recruiting Palestinians in Rafah

Occupied al-Quds- Saba: Israeli media revealed Monday evening that the "militia" armed by Israel inside the Gaza Strip has begun attempting to recruit Palestinians in the areas it controls south of Rafah, with the aim of forming administrative committees to manage those areas. According to the official Israeli Broadcasting Authority, Yasser Abu Shabab, who is presented as the leader of the Israeli-backed militia, called on Gaza residents to volunteer for these administrative committees in a post on his Facebook account. The militia, according to his claims, operates to oppose Hamas and provide civilian services such as distributing aid. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, wanted by the International Court of Justice, acknowledged last Thursday the arming of local militias in Gaza, allegedly for use against Hamas. This followed previous statements by former Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who strongly criticized the move, describing these militia members as "a group of criminals and outlaws belonging to ISIS. In the same context, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that these militias "engage in smuggling and extortion and do not care about the Palestinian cause. The newspaper noted that their leader, Yasser Abu Shabab, a 32-year-old Bedouin from Rafah, "is known for looting UN trucks last year and reselling humanitarian aid. For its part, Hamas described these groups as "gangs that have practiced treason and theft," asserting that they "operate under direct Zionist security supervision," and warning that these militias constitute "a real enemy of our Palestinian people," according to a statement issued by the movement. Zionist enemy distributes map showing more than 100 homes to demolish in Jenin camp

Jenin - Saba: The Zionist enemy forces notified the demolition of more than 100 homes in Jenin camp on Monday evening. According to the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa), local sources said that the enemy forces distributed a map showing 100 homes in several neighborhoods of Jenin camp that the enemy has decided to demolish. The sources indicated that the demolitions will take place within 72 hours of the issuance of the decision. The enemy has previously demolished several homes in the camp's neighborhoods, the most recent of which was in March, when more than 66 homes were demolished. Sources in the city of Jenin indicated that the ongoing Israeli aggression, which has been ongoing for more than five months, has caused partial or complete destruction to approximately 600 homes and facilities in the camp. Israeli enemy forces continued their demolition of residential buildings in Tulkarm camp on Monday for the fourth consecutive day, coinciding with their ongoing aggression on the city and camp. The Palestinian Wafa news agency reported that Israeli bulldozers continued their demolition of dozens of residential buildings in the Balawneh and Akasha neighborhoods of Tulkarm camp, implementing the Israeli plan to demolish 106 buildings in both Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, including 58 buildings in Tulkarm camp alone, comprising more than 250 housing units and dozens of commercial establishments. Family of imprisoned Palestinian journalist Jihad Badawi announces deterioration in his health

Hebron - Saba: The family of imprisoned Palestinian journalist Jihad Badawi from the city of Hebron announced Monday evening that their son's health had deteriorated, necessitating his transfer to the clinic at the Israeli Ramla prison. The family stated that journalist Jihad Badawi was arrested by the enemy on October 5, 2024, while passing through the Container military checkpoint north of Bethlehem governorate. It indicated that the enemy forces confiscated his phone and laptop at the time, before transferring him to administrative detention, which has been renewed several times. The enemy forces have escalated their arrest campaigns in various areas of the West Bank, to an unprecedented extent since October 7, 2023. The enemy authorities have imposed severe punitive measures on Palestinian prisoners in detention centers, depriving them of their most basic needs, in addition to committing severe physical and psychological torture.
