Man accused of stealing car with child inside from Massachusetts sentenced
HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A man who stole a car with a 3-year-old inside from Massachusetts last year was sentenced this week to five years in jail.
In January, Vadim Vorobyov was found guilty of first-degree reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a child, and first-degree larceny of a motor vehicle. He pleased guilty to all the charges.
Child located, suspect in custody in Windsor after AMBER Alert issued in Chicopee, Mass.
On Tuesday, he was sentenced to a combined eight years in jail, which will be served concurrently for a total of five.
Vorobyov was arrested by East Windsor police on March 29, after he stole a 2021 Toyota Camry on Exchange Street in Chicopee that had 3-year-old Liam David Pagan inside.
At a court hearing in April, police said they did not know if Vorobyov was initially aware there was a child in the vehicle.
A preliminary investigation showed Vorobyov dropped Pagan off at the Rodeway Inn in East Windsor before driving to a shopping plaza on Kennedy Road where he was then taken into custody at the Dollar Tree.
Massachusetts police credited license plate readers and city cameras as crucial to locating him and the boy. Pagan was not injured in the incident.

The campaign was designed to remind residents to keep their dogs secured and away from the mail carrier. Some community members told News 8 that they believe the incident could've been prevented. 'I really feel bad that this has happened to him and it is all in how you bring your animals up,' Carol Perruccio, a Middlefield resident, said. 'I mean I know pit bulls are known to be aggressive, but I think it is all in the way you raise them and teach them.' USPS stated that there were more than 6,000 reported dog attacks on postal service employees last year. The incident is still being investigated by the city's animal control. Meriden community responds after student detained by ICE

On Tuesday, his classmates will walk across the stage and receive their diplomas at Francis T. Maloney High School. The student, who has not been identified, will be absent from the ceremony. Former Connecticut police officer charged with DUI in Florida
LAKELAND, Fla. (WTNH) — Florida authorities say a former Connecticut police officer was arrested for DUI Saturday night after nearly crashing into a Polk County Sheriff's Office vehicle. Michael Dimeglio, 42, was charged with DUI (M2). His BAC was recorded at 0.168, which is more than twice the legal limit. RELATED: Two Norwalk police officers arrested after being found in hotel room together on duty The charge stems from when deputies noticed Dimeglio's Chevrolet Camaro drifting lanes and moving into oncoming traffic. At one point, they say he veered into the path of a PCSO deputy, prompting the deputy to brake suddenly to avoid a collision. Dimeglio failed to stop his car multiple times for deputies, and when he did, they reported his eyes were bloodshot and watery and they could smell the odor of alcohol on his breath. They also said they asked for his driver's license at least three times and each time, he seemed to give a different response without actually delivering it. When Dimeglio got out of his car, deputies said he was unsteady and had to use the vehicle for support to stand. He was also reportedly slurring his speech and had dilated pupils. He told deputies he had consumed alcohol while at the beach. Deputies said Dimeglio told them he was a police officer for Norwalk for nine years and terminated for misconduct in 2020. In 2021, he and another officer were arrested following an October 2020 incident during which they were found in a hotel room together while on duty. 'This reckless behavior put lives in danger, and it's especially disappointing coming from someone who once wore a badge. Law enforcement officers are held to a higher standard, and this former officer made a choice that could have cost lives,' Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement.
