Looking to boost your career or switch paths? A postgraduate degree at Strathclyde Business School – Scotland's triple-accredited, award-winning institution – offers world-class teaching, industry connections, and flexible study options to help you stand out
If you want to find a way to advance in your career or change career paths then a postgraduate course could be the answer – and might end up being the best investment you could make in yourself.
Doing a postgraduate degree is a way of enhancing your employability, providing an edge over other job applicants and demonstrating advanced skills and knowledge. It can potentially increase earnings as it shows your ambition and commitment to your present position.
And for those wishing to change career, a PG degree can offer a way of broadening knowledge and demonstrating commitment to a new sector of work.
All else being equal then, a PG qualification could really make your CV stand out.
Returning to academic studies also offers other benefits aside from academic knowledge such as access to guest speakers and experts from industry, a range of career services on hand and networking opportunities with peers, both local and international.
It's well worth researching potential courses and what business schools can offer in terms of postgraduate qualifications before making your final decision. Accreditation is a key factor in assessing the quality of potential courses.
Strathclyde Business School is one business school which holds triple accreditation and was in fact the first in Scotland to gain the coveted triple accreditation from international accrediting bodies AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB.
These international accreditations demonstrate that the business school in question has met rigorous standards set by these bodies and signifies that it adheres to stringent quality standards in its teaching, student support services, research and societal impact.
Strathclyde also has Small Business Charter accreditation which recognises the business school's world-class support for scaling Scottish firms through innovation, internationalisation and leadership. Again, SBS was the first in Scotland to gain this accreditation. SBS also holds department accreditations from organisations such as CIPD, CIMA, ICAS and the British Psychological Society and is recognised by the Institute of Hospitality for its hospitality and tourism programmes.
A business school that holds its own when judged against its peers may also be a consideration – SBS programmes such as the MBA, EMBA and MSc Finance have regularly featured in rankings from the Financial Times and most recently was ranked in Tier One of the latest CEO magazine ranking of MBAs and was ranked 18th in the world for its Global EMBA programme.
Strathclyde's Accounting & Finance Department recently won a competitive UK-wide award in the AGCAS Academic Employability Awards in the 'Technology for Employability' category for its finance simulation bootcamp run in association with AmplifyME – Strathclyde was the only Scottish institution to win an award.
The bootcamp is available to Master's students and receives excellent feedback each year from participants.
The University was ranked as the second top university in Scotland in the StudentCrowd 2025 league table, based on thousands of verified student reviews which recognise Strathclyde's student support services, campus facilities and helpful staff.
Strathclyde has also had a number of Times Higher Education (THE) awards. Known as the 'Oscars' of Higher Education, Strathclyde has, since 2011, been named University of the Year twice, Entrepreneurial University of the Year and Business School of the Year.
(Image: Above, Executive MBA graduate Jamie Culpan, founder of STAX Feed Solutions)
The Daily Mail also named Strathclyde Scottish University of the Year in its inaugural University Awards in 2023 and last year Strathclyde retained its top 10 position in the newspaper's ranking of UK universities.
The most important aspect of a business school though is, of course, its programmes. SBS offers programmes with options that cover accounting and finance, economics, sustainability, climate change, project management, data analytics, human resource management, occupational psychology, digital marketing and international management, as well as the renowned and pioneering MBA programme which can be studied full time or part time – and there are part time options too for other programmes which means work and study can be done alongside each other – there's no need to give up the day job!
The University Careers Service has a number of specialised staff who look after business school students – and the MBA programme has its very own careers team who can help with any aspect of career concerns as well as offering an annual – and very highly regarded – MBA Careers Conference.
One SBS graduate, Jamie Culpan – who did the part time MBA and graduated in 2024 – is now pursuing his entrepreneurial venture STAX Feed Solutions – a sustainable animal feed.
He recently travelled to Silicon Valley to take part in StartupGrind Global and was the only Scottish company exhibiting this year.
He said: 'I'm so proud to be a Strathclyder. The energy, support and network here are phenomenal.'
Another SBS graduate, Sarah Shepherd, did the MSc in Occupational Psychology and said: 'The course was brilliant and academically stimulating – a great mixture of academic learning and practical application.
'The focus on the workplace landscape as it is today and where it is heading helps students feel what they are learning is useful to go out into the workplace. The course also invites expert speakers in to talk to the students. This is brilliant as it inspires career paths and is a great chance to network with professionals in the field.'

Executive Education courses support business growth
STRATHCLYDE Business School offers a range of courses which are specific to the SME context to ensure that the learning is right for both the individual and their business.
These courses are designed to ensure minimal time away from the workplace alongside maximum learning benefit.
Strathclyde's executive education portfolio is recognised by the Small Business Charter Award which SBS has held since 2014 – this award recognises the business school's work in supporting start-ups and small businesses though expert advice, training and support.
One such executive programmes is the Help to Grow programme – this is a UK-wide 12 week programme which is funded by the UK Government to encourage business growth. Participants can look forward to building their capabilities in areas such as leadership, innovation, digital adoption, employee engagement, marketing and financial management.
he UK Government funding means costs are kept to an absolute minimum and it is just £750 for the programme which also offers 10 hours of individual mentoring from an experienced business owner to support you and your growth plan.
Strathclyde's successful Growth Advantage Progamme (GAP) was launched in 2015 and fully utilises Strathclyde's distinctive approach towards executive education and development which creates impact in those businesses which take part.
(Image: All three Growth programmes provide skills, knowledge and practical tools)
GAP is aimed at managing directors or chief executives of established businesses with real growth ambitions. Over 100 companies have taken part in the programme; from a wide range of sectors and including companies started from scratch, acquired and multi-general family businesses, they all have one thing in common – a desire to grow.
The programme uses action learning with a focus on tool kits and practical take-aways to support the learning and growth ambitions which can be immediately applied in the workplace.
Another programme aimed at ambitious businesses and their leaders in Strathclyde's SME Growth Programme portfolio is the Scottish Impact Investor Readiness Programme which is offered in partnership with the Scottish National Investment Bank.
This programme seeks to encourage ambitious Scotland-based businesses and their leaders to think about their societal impact and how to integrate this into their business growth strategy.
With investment from strategic partners, fees for this full programme – which should cost £7500 – are just £750.
All three of these Growth programmes provide new skills, knowledge and practical tools as well as offering a new peer network featuring other impact and growth-focused organisations.

Chippy famous for legendary fish suppers launches first ever breakfast supper

It is described as being 'a brekkie to be proud of' on the mornings when 'only Pure Filth will do' CHIP CHIP HOORAY Chippy famous for legendary fish suppers launches first ever breakfast supper Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SCOTTISH fish and chip shop has launched its first-ever breakfast supper - and fans will be thrilled. Award-winning Cromars in St Andrews, Fife, has created a special morning delight for those who need a little something extra early doors. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 5 Cromar's Fish and Chips shop in St Andrews has launched a new breakfast supper Credit: supplied 5 And it is set to go down a treat with customers Credit: FACEBOOK: CROMARS 5 Owner Wendy Napthine-Frame says, 'it's big, bold and gloriously indulgent' Credit: PA The popular chippy is famed for its legendary fish suppers, dog-friendly dining, and cheeky take on traditional favourites. And its most recent creation is described as being "a brekkie to be proud of" on the mornings when "only Pure Filth will do". Bosses have said the new menu, dubbed the Pure Filthy Breakfast, is perfect for anyone who overdid it the night before or is just crawling home after a night out. They said it's also a tasty option for workers whose jobs require them to get up super early during the wee hours. The new breakfast menu will be served to punters between 9am and 11am almost daily. And the new headline option is the £8.95 Bigger Bites, which is a base of golden hash brown bites, topped with a fried egg, smothered in melted cheese, and loaded with your choice of sauces. A proper St Andrews chippy breakfast for anyone who knows that sometimes only something outrageously filthy will hit the spot Wendy Napthine-Frame It will also include the option of either smoked sausage bits, crispy bacon, or a veggie sausage. The choices of sauces on offer are good old-fashioned brown sauce, tomato ketchup, spicy chipotle mayo or hot creamy horseradish for anyone who fancies something a little bolder. But for those who aren't so keen on something so heavy in the morning, Cromars is also serving classic breakfast rolls. Customers can pick up a bacon, sausage or veggie roll instead if they're looking for something easy. The Golden Fry: A Beloved Scottish Chippy Hits the Market (1) Or those who're looking for something lighter, there's the new 'Boost Your Breakfast Box' for £5.95. This includes a Greek yoghurt with chocolate granola and a Monster Mango Loco yoghurt shake. Bosses say this is the "ultimate morning wake-up call", adding: "Still Cromars. Just that little bit cleaner!" Wendy Napthine-Frame, owner of Cromars, said: 'We've built our reputation on serving great-tasting food with a side of fun and banter. Flavour-packed dishes are what we're known for. Our new 'Pure Filth Breakfast' is no exception – it's big, bold and gloriously indulgent Wendy Napthine-Frame "At Cromars, we don't take ourselves too seriously – but we do take our food seriously. "Fresh fish, top-quality ingredients and flavour-packed dishes are what we're known for. "Our new 'Pure Filth Breakfast' is no exception – it's big, bold and gloriously indulgent. "A proper St Andrews chippy breakfast for locals, students, workers and visitors to St Andrews, really anyone who knows that sometimes only something outrageously filthy will hit the spot.' It's not the first time that Wendy has hit headlines because of her incredible creations. In May last year, Cromars launched a special menu for dogs to become Scotland's first canine-friendly chippy. The menu includes £2 beef sausages and £1.50 'puppucinnos' - whipped cream that is usually served in an espresso-sized cup or a small bowl. It also offers free dog biscuits, and 50 per cent of sales from the canine meals will be donated to the SSPCA. Wendy said the menu was inspired by the amount of customers who visit the eatery with their four-legged friends. The businesswoman, who also has three dogs of her own, also wanted to help owners enjoy their suppers in peace by offering pet meals. AWARD-WINNING CHIPPY Cromars was established in 2013 and is one of Scotland's best-loved fish and chip shops. It specialises in making the very best fish and chips, adhering to three key pillars of quality: fish is only ever cooked to order, only the very best 'angel cut' Haddock is used, caught from the North Sea, and locally sourced ingredients. Cromars Classic Fish and Chips in St Andrews is multi-award-winning for the quality of its fish and chips. It ws crowned 'Best Fish Supper on the East Coast of Scotland' at the 2023 Scotland's Fish & Chip Awards. Cromars' owner, Wendy Napthine-Frame, has fishing in her blood. Born and raised in Peterhead, the largest landing port for fish in the UK, with a large extended family all working in the fishing industry either on boats or in the markets, Wendy has an innate understanding of what constitutes the best quality fish, along with the connections to source the very best that Scotland has to offer. Wendy regularly takes a 'fry' around to the homes of friends and family. Forget wine, chocolate or flowers, a fry is a box of the very best fish to eat as a treat. At the time, she said: "We are a nation of dog lovers. I have three dogs myself, so I know how much people love them and want them around as part of the family. "We see so many people travelling with their dogs now, especially as we come into the summer season, when the city is teeming with tourists and visitors. 'We are blessed in St Andrews with wonderful beaches and countryside, offering perfect walks for dogs and their owners, and for years Cromars has welcomed them all afterwards for a fish supper. 'I've often thought we should create a special menu for dogs, not least so that owners can eat our award-winning fish and chips in peace. "Without the pleading eyes and the nose-nudges that as dog owners we all understand! 'So, we have done just that with the introduction of our new menu, which is catering for doggies and doing good by helping support the tremendous work that the SSPCA does in Scotland.' 5 The latest creation has been called the 'Pure Filth Breakfast' Credit: FACEBOOK: CROMARS

'Multi-decade' future of nuclear base in Scotland secured

The UK Government plans a multi-billion-pound redevelopment of His Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Clyde, we revealed this week. The commitment of the UK Government is long term. (Image: PA) An initial £250 million of funding will be made over three years which will help support 'jobs, skills and growth' at Faslane, the Royal Navy's main presence in Scotland. Westminster said that the "Clyde 2070 programme represents one of the most significant and sustained UK Government investments in Scotland over the coming decades". Read the full story here Scottish economy tops the UK table on one key measure Scotland was top of the table on one key measure. (Image: Gordon Terris) Scotland's private sector economy bounced back into expansion territory last month, a key survey revealed this week. Scotland was the only one of the 12 UK nations and regions to record a rise in private sector employment in May in Royal Bank of Scotland's growth tracker survey. The business activity index for Scotland, a seasonally adjusted measure of the month-on-month change in the combined output of the manufacturing and services sectors – rose from 47.4 in April to 50.5 in May on a seasonally adjusted basis to indicate a renewed rise in business activity. This marked the first increase in output on this measure for six months. With May's reading of 50.5 only slightly above the no-change mark of 50, Royal Bank of Scotland observed the rate of expansion last month was 'marginal and similar to that seen across the UK as a whole'. (Image: Sterling) Former Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson has been appointed chief executive of Sterling Furniture Group on a permanent basis as the venerable Scottish retailer looks to get back on track after a challenging period. Sterling confirmed the appointment as new accounts show the Tillicoultry-based company tumbled to a loss of nearly £4 million for the year ended August 31, following a profit of £43,870 the year prior. Turnover dipped to £50.55m from £83.6m. The loss coincided with a downturn in the broader UK retail sector, as consumers grappled with high inflation and interest rates, while businesses dealt with increased operating costs. Mr Robertson, who spent eight years at the Ibrox club, initially joined Sterling as interim chief executive in December, with his arrival following the appointment of Bernard Dunn, a former head of insurance broker TL Dallas in Scotland, as chairman in October.
