Tourist, 23, plunges to her death into water at Highlands beauty spot
A 23-year-old woman has tragically died after plunging into the water at a Scottish Highlands beauty spot.
Emergency services scrambled to the picturesque Rogie Falls, near Contin in Ross-shire, at around 1.45pm yesterday, as a major rescue operation was sparked.
The woman was reportedly a tourist in the area and had been with others when she fell into the water.
Police, Dundonnell Mountain Rescue, HM Coastguard, a helicopter and the Scottish Ambulance service were all sent to the scene.
A specialist water boat was also deployed by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
But the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and police say they are not treating the death as suspicious.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 1.45pm on Saturday, June 14, we were called to a report of a woman having fallen into water in the Rogie Falls area of Wester Ross.
'Emergency services attended however the 23-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
'There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.'
The Rogie Falls are a series of waterfalls on the Black Water and are a popular destination with tourists.
They lie off the A835 road, around a mile northwest of the village of Contin, and are famous for salmon viewing.
Woodlands surround the waterfalls, with a bridge over them connecting to forest paths.

Man dies and girl, 8, injured as fire rips through four-storey residential building
A man has died and an eight-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after a fire tore through a four-storey residential building in Perth. A 27-year-old man has also been taken to hospital after the blaze took hold in flats on the corner of Scott Street and South Street. Steps have been taken to impose temporary airspace restrictions, including on drones, across Perth city centre until 1pm on Wednesday 'for security and safety', according to Police Scotland. Officers patrolling the area initially reported the fire on Saturday at about 1.50am. Two firefighters were injured, one due to falling masonry, as a dozen fire crews battled the blaze. Forty people were forced to leave their homes as nearby buildings were evacuated following the fire. John Swinney, the First Minister who is also the MSP for Perthshire North, said on social media: 'Terribly sorry to hear of the death of a man in the fire in Scott Street, Perth. I express my sympathy to his family. 'Concerned also for the condition of those who are receiving hospital treatment. This is a major incident and I am thankful to the emergency services.' A joint investigation is being held by the police and fire services and road closures remain in place at the scene. Chief Supt Nicola Russell, divisional commander for Tayside, said: 'Our thoughts are with all those affected by this incident. Investigations are at a very early stage to establish the full circumstances of what has happened. 'We are conducting a joint investigation with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS). As part of our investigations a temporary airspace restriction is place in the Scott Street and South Street areas in Perth until 1pm on Wednesday June 18 for security and your safety. 'Restrictions include drones. You must check if it is legal to fly in your area. Drone users are responsible. It is a criminal offence to fly in restricted airspace. Andy Girrity, deputy assistant chief officer at the SFRS, added: 'On arrival, firefighters found the roof of a four-storey residential building well alight. 'Initially, three appliances were mobilised, but due to the severity of the blaze and structural collapses, a total of 12 appliances were involved at the height of the incident. 'Five casualties, including one firefighter injured by falling masonry, were passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. 'The incident has now been scaled back, and two appliances and one height vehicle remain on scene to dampen down hotspots.'

A massive search operation launched on the Firth of Clyde amid reports of a man overboard
A massive search operation was launched in the Firth of Clyde yesterday afternoon amid concern a man had gone overboard. The passenger was reported missing on the Gourock to Dunoon service after disappearing while fetching something from his car. The man, believed to be in his sixties, vanished from the Western Ferries vessel shortly after telling his wife that he needed to get something from the boot of their vehicle. When he failed to come back, she raised the alarm. Emergency services including the RNLI, Coastguard and Police Scotland officers joined the search after the alert was raised at around 1.30pm. CalMac ferries stopped services for safety reasons amid the operation and said its MV Ali Cat was aiding the search for the missing passenger. A Coastguard helicopter flew a search pattern over the Gourock- Dunoon route and surrounding areas. It was airborne for most of the afternoon before refuelling at Prestwick at 5.38pm. Coastguard crews searched on foot along the Gourock waterfront while police officers were deployed to the nearby ferry terminal. Western Ferries also suspended sailings on the route. In Dunoon, a Western Ferries operator said he had been told no boats would serve the 20-minute journey for the rest of the day, or at least until 'the search' was over. He said: 'I've just been told not to let anyone else into the car park and inform people that the only way they're going to get out of here today is by road.' One hotelier, whose rooms were filled with passengers stranded on the Dunoon side of the route, said: 'The way the current's going he could be at Holy Loch or Helensburgh by now.' Another passenger said the incident had left everyone on board 'traumatised'. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: 'HM Coastguard are responding to reports of a person overboard between the Hunter's Quay and Gourock area. 'An HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter has been tasked to conduct a search, alongside Coastguard rescue teams from Largs and Dunoon, in addition to RNLI lifeboats from Helensburgh and Largs.' Late last night the emergency services said the search had been called off until morning.
