Ex-Man Utd star Jesse Lingard tells grandad's sex abuse trial he'd ‘block daughter from seeing him if claims were true'
FOOTBALLER Jesse Lingard today told his grandad's sex abuse trial that he would block his daughter from seeing him if the claims were true.
The ex- Man Utd star is giving evidence after Kenneth Lingard, 86, was accused of sexually assaulting a woman from the age of five until she was 19.
3
She reported the alleged historic abuse to the police after watching a Channel 4 documentary that featured Jesse.
The England star, 32, had praised his grandfather's influence on his career in the show.
Jesse, who flew in from South Korea where plays for FC Seoul, told Liverpool Crown Court the woman contacted him after the documentary came out.
He said: "She was just going on about the documentary and how I let him be part of it when he's done those things.
"I was like 'what are you on about, I have not heard nothing about this'."
Jesse said the woman told him she was going to call the police - prompting him to tell her: "Call them if you want".
He told jurors she "popped out of nowhere" and that is was "kind of random".
Jesse also said he would have "cut ties" with his grandad straight away if he knew anything about the abuse allegations.
He added: "My daughter wouldn't be round there. My little sister wouldn't be round there."
Jesse, who scored in FC Seoul's 2-1 loss on Saturday against Gwangju, said the trial has caused a few of his sponsorship deals to fall through.
He also told the court he had lived with his grandparents from the age of two or three and that Lingard was very supportive of his career.
The footballer said: "He basically taught me football, taught all the skills, drove me up and down motorways from Liverpool to Manchester, Crewe, Barnsley, Stoke, to watch me play football.
"He's been the man that's got me here today."
Jurors previously heard the woman messaged Jesse three times on November 18, 2022, after the show aired.
In one text, she said: "Shame on you Jesse Lingard. Loads of lies. Your grandad Kenneth Lingard molested and sexually abused me and you know he did.
"You did the documentary for money and to make yourself some kind of mental health ambassador. Well, as you say, I'm speaking out. No more silence."
In another, she referred Jesse hiding a "dark" secret that his grandfather was a "paedophile" and "child molester".
She also branded the former England star's late grandmother Pamela an "enabler".
The woman claimed he had "no right doing that documentary" when his grandfather had "molested" her for years.
Jurors also heard calls she made to police on the day Jesse Lingard — The Untold Story was aired.
She asked officers how she could get someone "arrested for child abuse but historic child abuse?"
The woman also told police she "thought it was time to speak out about the abuse I had received" after watching the show.
She added: "It just made me feel ill that he was made out to be such a hero.'
Lingard, of Warrington, has denied 17 counts of indecent assault.
The trial continues.

Chilling moment thieves steal car with wireless device in seconds as new doc reveals how Brit motors end up in Lithuania
CHILLING footage shows the moment thieves stole a car in just seconds using a wireless device. Investigative reporter Matt Shea went undercover for Channel 4 Dispatches to shed light on organised criminal gangs specialising in car thefts. 5 5 5 In the show, which will air in full tonight, Shea met whistleblowers and car thieves in a bid to expose the truth. A sneak peek at the much-anticipated programme shows two car thieves demonstrating using keyless technology bought from the dark web. Footage shows the pair revealing to Shea exactly how they can steal a car in just 20 seconds. Thief 'T' and an accomplice demonstrated how they use an amplifier, which looks similar to a radio or walkie-talkie. It picks up the signal from the "key" inside a home and use it to unlock a car parked outside. The device works by scrambling the signal from a remote key fob, and was used in nearly 60 percent of car thefts in the UK last year. After just a few seconds of holding the amplifier outside the window, the car door unlocked, allowing T to simply open the door and start up the engine. Once the engine had started, the accomplice could take the amplifier, jump in the car and they drove off, with the entire theft taking less than 20 seconds. Asked if they feel anything for the people they steal from they respond: 'These cars are insured, that's like, that a first world problem, you know, there's bigger s*** going on out there,. "Like your f***ng Range Rover 's gone, boo-hoo, go and buy another one, man.' "The Teslas aren't easy, I don't think anyone's figured that out yet, because they are proper high tech' the thieves claim. Moment cops snare 'Rolex Ripper' gang after brazen watch thieves try to rob pair…only to find they're undercover police However, they brazenly boasted that others makes and models are easy to steal. The men claimed they have taken up to 20 vehicles a month for as much as £5,000 per car, depending on its value. They told Shea that up to 90 per cent of cars are broken down for their parts. Last year approximately 355 vehicles were stolen every day in England and Wales. The shocking finds equate to a stolen car every four minutes, and more than 70 per cent the amount stolen a decade ago. Freedom of Information requests to police forces in England and Wales also reveal that – for the 18 forces who responded - only 3.4 per cent of reports of a car being stolen between 2020 and 2024 led to someone being charged or summonsed. In the documentary, criminals revealed how highly organised gangs stole cars, dismantling them at so called 'chop shops' before shipping them out of the country to Eastern Europe. The programme reveals how a blue Audi A4, fitted with a hidden tracker, was stolen from a woman's driveway in north London on March 15. The car's GPS signal showed the Audi moving east towards the borough of Enfield and then switching off. Five weeks later, the tracker suddenly reappeared in Kaunas, Lithuania, and was tracked to a business in the outskirts of the city called Baltic Car Trade. Dispatches filmed the police raid on the property, but instead of finding a blue Audi A4, all they found that was left of the vehicle was a bunch of wires. The car, like many stolen off British streets, was long gone having been torn apart. 5 5

Chief exec Omar Berrada insists fans were consulted over the changes SEEING RED Furious Man Utd fans slam new ticket prices as 'another slap in the face' and warn decision will do 'enormous harm' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FURIOUS Manchester United fans condemned a new ticket-price rise as a "fresh kick in the teeth". The club have introduced a new match categorisation model, charging some members up to £97 for top fixtures - starting with the Premier League opener against Arsenal on August 17. Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) claim the club "failed to consult any of the fans' representative bodies on the details of the decision". However, chief executive Omar Berrada insisted they did. A MUST statement read: "After how last season went, we might have hoped that the club would reconsider their plans for this new ticketing model. "This really is a fresh kick in the teeth for Manchester United fans." Supporters were already at war with the club after Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co. introduced a flat-rate £66 for non-season-ticket holders, with no concessions, mid-season. Berrada admitted this week in an interview with United We Stand that the club had made a mistake. Fixtures against Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle are also in Category A. Cup games are in the lowest Category D band. The changes will see prices increase by up to 50 per cent for fans buying tickets on a match-by-match basis - yet United argue that the £97 applies to less than one per cent of the available tickets. MUST added: "Once again, they have failed to consult any of the fans' representative bodies on the details of the decision. "And, once again, they are making choices against the interests of fans and the club as a whole. "This match categorisation model will do enormous harm." 3 The club insist fan groups were consulted and say ticket prices are lower than those first proposed to the Fan Advisory Board, whom Berrada claims to have engaged with heavily since the £66 decision. But another protest group, The 1958, insisted: "This is yet another slap in the face for loyal fans. "Dialogue with the club is broken, ignored or treated with contempt. 'Fans raise genuine concerns, the club responds with spin and price hikes. "Profit comes first. Supporters, the lifeblood of this club, come last."

Pep Guardiola gives Rayan Cherki verdict after 'embarrassing' Man City debut
Pep Guardiola gave Rayan Cherki the benefit of the doubt after his tame Manchester City debut in the Club World Cup. Cherki completed his move to the Etihad earlier this month for a reported fee of £34million after a thrilling campaign in France with Lyon. He played for the first time in City blue on Wednesday evening against Moroccan outfit Wydad Casablanca in the revamped tournament taking place across the US this month. Phil Foden opened the scoring in the opening minutes with Cherki starting the game in Philadelphia. 'The opening half largely passed the Frenchman by, however, struggling to impose himself while occupying the no8 position ahead of fellow summer signing Tijjani Reijnders. Tasked with feeding Savinho, Jeremie Doku and Omar Marmoush in the City attack, Cherki struggled to find space to work his magic, pressed into errors by the opposition. The France international managed just 22 touches of the ball during his time on the pitch, losing it 10 times – more than any other City player – before he was replaced by Erling Haaland on the hour mark. Cherki announced himself in style this week by vowing to 'kill' Manchester United when City and their neighbours collide in the new Premier League season – with his meek debut mocked by rival supporters on social media. 'Cherki you should be embarrassed with this performance,' one fan wrote with another who was left unimpressed commenting: 'Cherki stinker and wrecked after 60 minutes on his debut.' One more sympathetic observer noted: 'Cherki just overdoing it tbh which is v common for a debut. It'll come.' Cherki, and fellow new arrival Reijnders, will both be tasked with filling the void left by Kevin de Bruyne who has signed for Napoli after a decade in Manchester.' Speaking after the match, Guardiola admitted de Bruyne will be 'difficult to replace' but pointed out Cherki's qualities despite failing to catch the eye 'in very tough conditions' on his debut. 'Of course, Kevin is difficult to replace, we know that,' Guardiola said in his post-match press conference. More Trending 'For the quality that he has, there is no doubt about that. But at the same time, the club decided on Rayan, he has incredible skills close to the box, an incredible vision and pass, he has many, many things. '[Today] was just the first game in very tough conditions but I am really pleased that he is here.' Guardiola added in an interview with DAZN: 'Tijjani [Reijnders] played very well, Rayan [Cherki] had good moments. Everyone has to get to know us and see what happens.'
