Herbert seals Asian Tour win with final-hole heroics
TOKYO, JAPAN - Australia's Lucas Herbert eagled the last hole for the second day in a row to claim his first title on the Asian Tour by five strokes in Japan on Sunday.
The 29-year-old, who plays on the LIV Golf circuit, established a dominant lead at International Series Japan and finished with a flourish on the par-5 18th.
Herbert finished 20-under-par overall to lift the trophy ahead of playing partners Song Young-han of South Korea and Japan's Yuta Sugiura.
The win moved him to the top of the Asian Tour Order of Merit, as well as the International Series rankings.
"The way I've been playing this year, it's been building to get a win at some point," said Herbert, who has won once on the US PGA Tour.
"So it's nice to get it done here, especially in Japan which is one of my favourite places.
"It's nice to feel like some of the hard work that I put in has paid off," he added.
Herbert set himself up for the final day with an electric finish on Saturday, carding eagles on two of the final three holes to finish the round tied for the lead with Song and Sugiura.
The Australian birdied three of the opening five holes on Sunday to move into the lead and he never looked back.
Herbert closed the win out in style with a long, curving putt on the 18th.
"I was thinking about it down on the 18th green, that finish yesterday really set it up," he said.
"It would have been much tougher, I think, to play in the group in front, or maybe two groups in front, had I parred in and to try and come back from behind today."

Latest on Rulani Mokwena returning to Orlando Pirates
Orlando Pirates are set to announce a new coach ahead of the 2025/26 season, after the departure of Jose Riveiro. Riveiro was with Pirates for three years and had considerable success during his tenure at the Buccaneers. During his tenure, Riveiro has helped Pirates win five trophies. Three MTN8 titles in a row as well as back to back Nedbank Cup titles. Furthermore, Beyond that, he led the Buccaneers into a second place in the Betway Premiership. Beyond local boarders, he ensured qualification for the side, into the group stages of the CAF Champions League. After doing so for the first time since 2018, they finished top of their group and unbeaten. Riveiro led Pirates to a semifinal finish in the CAF Champions League, with a Nedbank Cup final too. That has seen a vacancy open up at the Sea Robbers for the first time. A familiar name has since resurfaced in Rulani Mokwena. Having had a short stint with the Buccaneers before, he has expressed interest in a potential return. 'I don't know, I've just arrived back in the country… To be honest I don't know (about Pirates). Of course I would consider it. It's a big club and it's still got people who are very close to me and to my heart. I'm very, very fond of Doctor Khoza, very fond and he will always have a special place in my heart. I've been fortunate enough that as a coach I've learnt a lot from three of the best football leaders on the continent – Dr. Khoza number one, for sure, general knowledge, geography, football, humanity, everything, religion…' said Mokwena on Soccer Africa . Watch the clip below. After his stints at Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Casablanca, would you take Mokwena back Pirates fans? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab. Kaizer Chiefs target pictured in club tracksuit after agreeing to join!
Kaizer Chiefs have received a huge boost in the pursuit of one of their top transfer targets for next season. Chiefs are looking to add quality and depth to their squad as they prepare to compete on the continent next campaign. Last season was yet another one to forget for Chiefs, as they saw themselves finishing outside top eight. This was for the second season in a row, and only the third in their history. The only saving grace they had this time around was their Nedbank Cup trophy triumph. That win was not only their first trophy in 10 years, but a gateway into the CAF Confederation Cup next season. That will mean more games and more travelling rigours for the club. In order to combat that, while remaining competitive on the local front, Chiefs management will have to step up. This in the way of backing coach Nasreddine Nabi with a squad filled with quality in strength and depth. One of the targets he has been rumoured to desperately want is Feisal Salum. Amakhosi were rumoured to have been subjects of a bid to Azam FC for services in January. That bid was rejected but it is now reported that Azam are more receptive to selling Salum this window. Now according to FARPost, Chiefs coach Nabi has convinced the talented midfielder his project. It is believed that he is now ready to reject Simba SC to join Amakhosi! Salum is ironically in the country, but not for Chiefs or at least not just yet. He will be part of the Tanzania national team that takes on Bafana Bafana and plays the COSAFA Cup. While he isn't here for a move to Amakhosi, that hasn't stopped him from donning the club tracksuit top. Furthermore, he even threw up the famous peace sign synonymous with the club. Check it out! Chiefs fans, is this a sign that Salum is coming? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab. Or by emailing info@ or sending a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Will Jose Riveiro raid Orlando Pirates for signings?
Orlando Pirates are preparing to start a new era without former coach Jose Riveiro, who moved to Al Ahly. Pirates allowed Riveiro to leave for Al Ahly early, so that he can help them prepare for the FIFA Club World Cup. Now as he embarks on his new journey at Al Ahly, he will undoubtedly be looking to reinforce his squad. Speaking upon his arrival at the club, he has already expressed delight at what he has at his disposal. 'I like the players to be at the same level. We will participate in many tournaments in the coming period, and I don't like any player to be guaranteed a place in the team. Every player must perform strongly in training in order to be a regular starter in matches. We want strong players who can always compete. I don't want a large number of players on the team. I like a small number of players, and that's what I prefer.' He told Al Ahly TV as per Tahiamasr . Riveiro also seemed to put to bed any rumours that he will be looking to sign any players from Pirates. 'I want to give every player a chance. I didn't ask any player from Orlando (Pirates) to join Al Ahly. The current group at Al Ahly is excellent, and Mahmoud El Khatib, the club's president, is constantly supporting the team. I always like to focus and work with the players so they can compete in the coming period. I trust all the players, and the fans' ambitions are very natural because they always want to win championships. Without the fans' pressure, Al Ahly would have failed to win titles.' Said Riveiro. Pirates fans are you happy Riveiro wont't be coming back for any of your players? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab. Or by emailing info@ or sending a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
