India-origin man dies days after Australian police allegedly knelt on his neck
A 42-year-old Indian-origin man has died days after an Australian police officer allegedly knelt on his neck during an attempted arrest, a media report said on Sunday.
Gaurav Kundi, 42, from Modbury North in Adelaide, died surrounded by his family on Thursday after he was hospitalised for an "unrecoverable" brain injury, 7News Australia reported.
Police attempted to arrest Kundi on Payneham Rd at Royston Park, alleging that it witnessed an "altercation" between him and a woman.

The video footage of the incident showed Kundi being forced by police while he and his wife, Amritpal Kaur, loudly protested.

"I've done nothing wrong," Kundi shouted while Kaur filmed and cried out that the police were acting unfairly.

Kundi was rushed to the hospital after his condition declined and he "became unresponsive" during the attempted arrest.
Police said Kundi violently resisted the arrest and was intoxicated.
It said the couple was allegedly arguing, and a passing patrol reportedly mistook the incident for domestic violence.
However, Kaur said his husband was simply drunk and loud, not violent.
Meanwhile, South Australian (SA) Police Commissioner Grant Stevens told ABC Radio Adelaide it would investigate the incident in addition to a probe by the internal investigation section detectives.
The inquiry would review SA Police's policies, practices, procedures, including training in relation to responding to incidents.
SA Police said no one was shot, and no police taser was deployed at the scene.
The media have compared the arrest to the George Floyd case in the US in 2020.
Floyd was murdered by a Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, who pressed his knee and the weight of his body against the 46-year-old Black American man's neck.

Nashik: A fatal collision between a private travel bus and a truck occurred at 7am on Sunday in the Ahilyanagar district, resulting in three deaths. Seven people, including a child, suffered injuries. Sangamner taluka inspector Devidas Dhumne said, "The bus was going from Mumbai to Shirdi via Sangamner-Loni road. The collision severely damaged the left sides of both vehicles. Despite the truck maintaining its course, the bus struck its left side. The casualties included the assistant truck driver Shaikh in the truck's cabin, and Kandalkar and Walmiki, who occupied left window seats in the bus's first two rows," Dhumne said. Upon receiving notification, police and ambulance services arrived at the scene to transport the injured and deceased to hospitals. Local residents assisted in rescuing the bus passengers. Police reported that while the injured received medical attention, the remaining passengers proceeded with their journey. The bus driver has been detained and police have booked a case against him under section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Drugs, gutka worth 14.5L seized, three arrested
Nashik: The Nashik city police seized mephedrone (MD), banned gutka, and vehicles involved in smuggling in two separate actions, with the total seizure valued at Rs14.5 lakh. In the first case, the crime branch unit arrested two persons for allegedly carrying MD for sale. Acting on a tip-off received by Assistant Sub-Inspector Gulab Sonar, the police laid a trap in the Manur area on the Nashik–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Road. Senior Inspector Sushila Kolhe of the Anti-Narcotics Squad was also part of the operation. "The police intercepted an autorickshaw in which Sumit Ashok Dhayinje (27, resident of Lokhande Mala, Hanumantnagar, Upnagar) and Shakir Hasan Sayyed (32, resident of Wadalagaon) were travelling. We found 4.5 grams of MD worth Rs22,500 from Dhayinje's possession and another 4 grams worth Rs20,000 in possession of Sayyed," said the police. A total of 8.5 grams of MD worth Rs45,000, along with the autorickshaw and a mobile phone, collectively valued at Rs2.1 lakh, were seized. A complaint was registered at the Adgaon police station. Mumbai: A Nepali family of three, who were living in the city for over two decades using forged voter ID, Aadhaar, and PAN cards, was arrested at the airport while trying to board a flight to Kathmandu on Saturday. Sahar police said Gautam Khadaka (49), his wife Nirmala (47), and son Gagan (22), a college student, have travelled multiple times to Nepal in the past via road and train and did not raise suspicions as there are no restrictions for Nepali nationals entering India through official borders. However, their decision to travel by air to their hometown for a holiday resulted in their capture. Gautam allegedly admitted that he had obtained the forged ID documents in 2001. "The trio were scheduled to depart for Kathmandu at 11pm but were intercepted by immigration officers after they produced Indian voter ID cards as identification along with their boarding passes," said a Sahar police officer. "Initially, Gagan was stopped during the immigration check, leading officials to detain the entire family. During the probe by immigration officials Sandeep Salve (40) and Abhijit Kokare, the family's travel history emerged. Gautam admitted that he had entered India at the age of 14 through the Indo-Nepal border in 1990. Salve's complaint detailed: "Gautam first came to Borivli and undertook odd jobs for livelihood. In 2001, he got married in Nepal and brought his wife to Mumbai; they then moved to Mahim where they started a tea and fast-food stall. They fraudulently obtained voter ID, Aadhaar, and PAN cards. Gagan was born in Mumbai in 2003. He completed his schooling in the city and is now in college." Police have booked the couple and their son under BNS sections 318 (cheating), which attracts imprisonment for seven years and a fine; 336 (2) (forgery), which attracts imprisonment for two years and a fine; 336 (3) (forgery of electronic record), which attracts imprisonment for seven years and a fine; and 340 (2) (forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine), which is a cognisable offence triable by a magistrate. The family remains in police custody for further inquiry until June 17.
