According to the hospital, the multi-million dollar gift, pledged by Scott and Sandi Borchetta, reportedly adds to the couple's ongoing support for the NICU program.
'Sandi and Scott's generous gift allows us to expand our premier neonatal intensive care unit's services to provide even more specialized care for our most vulnerable patients,' said Jeff Balser, President and CEO of Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Dean of the School of Medicine. 'Their gift supports crucial programming, neonatal equipment, space and staffing. We are grateful for their longstanding commitment to Monroe Carell.'
According to a Monday morning press release, there are now 131 NICU beds on a recent four-floor expansion. A portion of those beds will reportedly be located on the hospital's new 14th floor, which will named the 'Scott & Sandi Borchetta Floor.'

Nurse accidentally drags baby girl from hospital crib, killing her, OH mom says
On March 4, Ellieana J. Peyton was born at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Just 27 days later, she died after suffering a head injury from a fall at the hospital, according to the Franklin County Coroner's report. After she was born, Ellieana was placed in the NICU due to a cardiovascular disease called Cardiomyopathy, according to a GoFundMe page. Her mother Mackenzie Marshall said in a March 12 Facebook post that Ellieana had a heart surgery and everything went 'amazing.' 'Her numbers looked great, everything went great,' she said in the post. 'I'm so happy. Crying happy tears.' Then, on March 25, Marshall took to Facebook again, this time sharing that Ellieana had been injured at the hospital. 'The hospital nurse put the cords hooked to my daughter in her pocket and forgot she had the cords in her pocket and dragged my daughter out of bed when she went she said in the post. Marshall and Ellieana's dad went home to shower when they got the call that their baby was 'dropped,' the GoFundMe page said. 'She already had a 20 percent chance of life and this hospital wants to be so careless and be so dumb with a NEWBORN BABY. my baby has a fractured skull bleeding in her (expletive) head,' Marshall wrote March 26 on Facebook. 'I left for (an) hour to come take a shower and get the worst phone call no parent should ever receive when (they're) supposed to be helping her and taking care of her.' 'Due to patient privacy, we are unable to provide information about specific patients,' a spokesperson for Nationwide Children's Hospital told McClatchy News June 4 in an email. The coroner's report obtained by McClatchy News said Ellieana's injuries were caused by a fall from a crib. Her cause of death was listed as 'Congenital dilated cardiomyopathy complicated by blunt force head injuries.' The manner of death was ruled accidental. 'Ellie mommy misses you so much already, I just sat in your room and cried. Your bed's empty, your car seat was empty on the way home. This isn't real,' Marshall wrote on Facebook. 'I just want you back.' Ellieana's obituary said she had 'the most contagious smile that would light up the room' and brown eyes that 'you could stare into for hours.' 'You (were) a gift from God and as a gift I will cherish you for life,' her dad, Tyler Peyton, wrote on Facebook. McClatchy News reached out to Marshall for additional comments but did not hear back.

24-Year-Old Democrat Wins Sweeping Election Victory In Lindsey Graham's State
Democrat Keishan Scott, 24, became one of the youngest members of the South Carolina House of Representatives on Tuesday after beating his GOP opponent by large margin. Scott, who is now representing District 50 in Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham's state, beat William Oden with nearly 71% of approximately 3,675 votes, according to the unofficial count from the state Election Commission. The Bishopville native is a first-generation college graduate from Central Carolina Technical College and the University of South ran a campaign prioritizing access to health care, quality education, workforce empowerment and expanding infrastructure. The seat was formerly held by Democrat Will Wheeler, who unexpectedly resigned early this year, launching a special election. Scott's victory comes as Democrats are facing an approval crisis. Former Vice President Kamala Harris won the largely rural district in the 2024 presidential election, but by anarrow 51-46 margin. Scott's landslide win also comes at a time when DNC Vice Chair David Hogg, 25, has announced a $20 million effort to elect younger Democratic primary challengers in traditionally safe blue districts. Longtime Dem strategist James Carville called Hogg's plan 'jackassery' because of its focus on replacing older sitting Democrats, rather than fighting Republicans. Three House Democrats — all in their 70s — have died in office so far in 2025, potentially making it easier for Republicans to pass legislation in line with President Donald Trump's agendas. Democratic National Committee ChairKen Martin congratulated Scott on X, saying, 'tonight's results are a reminder that voters are siding with strong Democratic leaders who will fight for working families across the country.' 'This victory is not mine alone, but it belongs to all of the people in District 50 that got out and exercised their right to vote,'Scott said in a speechposted on Facebook. Springfield residents give feedback on Sunshine Street corridor study
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — On Tuesday, June 3, residents were invited to voice their opinions on the Sunshine Street Corridor Study, between Kansas Expressway and Glenstone Avenue. The purpose of this plan is to analyze existing conditions and work with the public to help set the vision of the street and the surrounding neighborhoods. There are five for the study: Engagement, Safety, Revitalization, Place, and Balance Community Needs. The City of Springfield hopes that the feedback will help create a Sunshine Street that will: Balances mobility & local needs Prioritizes safety for everyone traveling on streets and sidewalks in the study area Guides improvements Supports neighborhood goals and vision defined in Forward SGF A presentation was given to attendees, providing more insight into the project and how their feedback will play a part in it. Afterwards, people could move freely around to board stations that provided more information on Sunshine, as well as sticky notes where they could pin their feedback. Why Midnight Rodeo is suddenly closing its longtime location 'This is kind of a unique approach the city is taking with multiple departments, with multiple disciplines coming together to look at not just the traffic and transportation corridor, but also looking at quality of life, quality of place and what it's really like to live in and around the area as well,' says Cora Scott, spokesperson for the City of Springfield. According to Scott, one of the main reasons for the study is to improve safety. 'It's becoming more heavily trafficked in. Also we're having more crashes, particularly at access areas as people in and out of driveways and such along that corridor,' Scott said. 'So that's the number one reason to look at what could be some infrastructure improvements to help with that. Not necessarily to constantly speed up traffic, but just to make it safer for people, pedestrians, bicyclists, drivers along the route.' Ozarks First spoke to some Springfield residents attending the event who expressed their own opinions on the project. 'I'm hopeful that this is going to go the right way and I plan to be part of it to try to ensure that it is steered in the right way,' said Donell Dunbar about the project, 'I live in University Heights neighborhood, which is kind of known as a contested neighborhood. And I want this to go right because it's on our doorstep and we need it to go right for the city as well to preserve the history that we have and to provide a very welcoming place for visitors, residents, everyone who comes to our city.' Dunbar believes that older buildings should be torn down to make way for new ones. 'I would like to see the vacant businesses addressed. Let's tear them down and build something more useful. If they're not going to be used before we start tearing historical homes down, for instance.' Springfield schools raises 67,000 meals in Ozarks Food Harvest competition For Rick and Sally Keen, the biggest issue is traffic. 'There's too many cars going in and out on Sunshine Street, 'said Sally Keen. 'I think it'd be nice if they had alleys behind the building of some sort.' 'Something needs to be done for the traffic, the speeders. And that's a major problem, especially late at night shifts,' added Rick Keen. Scott states that there will be at least 'two to three more times to engage' with residents in the future, saying the next survey will include a design charrette, where the designers will sit at tables and the public can discuss further details on the project. A completed plan for the project is expected to be finished in early 2026. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
