How this regional Aussie town secured rock legend Lenny Kravitz
Rock legend Lenny Kravitz is bringing his world tour to Australia with dates in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane … and Mildura.
On November 28, the four-time Grammy Award-winner will rock Mildura, a regional town six hours north-west of Melbourne after shows in the east-coast capitals, the NSW port city of Newcastle, and in Adelaide right before the bp Adelaide Grand Final supercars event.
'[Monday's] announcement is yet another landmark moment for our community in terms of major events,' Mildura City Council mayor Helen Healy said. 'It also provides us with another golden opportunity to welcome visitors to our beautiful corner of the world later this year.'
Backed by the state government, the Blue Electric Light tour show at the Sporting Precinct is expected to attract up to 15,000 fans.
But how did Mildura – a region with a population of about 57,000 people – secure this legend of rock?
Kravitz is the second major artist to perform in Mildura in the past three years. Rock band Kings of Leon wowed more than 10,000 fans at the Sporting Precinct in 2022, immediately after the state's sixth lockdown.
The Kravitz show is supported by the state government's $38 million regional events fund, established to attract tourist dollars from interstate and overseas, and to get Melburnians into the regions. Following the success of the Kings of Leon and Foo Fighters in Geelong in 2022, Visit Victoria engaged with the live music sector to seek headline talent to again venture beyond the big cities.
Healy said the Kings of Leon performance injected more than $2 million into the local economy, and helped fill more than 9000 hotel rooms. About 40 per cent of the concert-goers travelled from outside the region.

It ain't over: Lenny Kravitz is coming to Newcastle in November
Lenny Kravitz is coming to Newcastle in November as part of his worldwide Blue Electric Light Tour. The four-time Grammy Award-winning writer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and singer was forced to cancel his 2020 Here to Love Tour of Australia, which also included a Newcastle date, due to COVID-19 restrictions in force at the time. The Blue Electric Light Tour 2025 continues what Billboard has called the "Lennaissance" - a renewed period of worldwide success for Kravitz, who released his critically-acclaimed 12th studio album Blue Electric Light last year. Regarded as one of the greatest rock musicians of our time, Kravitz has transcended genre, style, race and class during his three-decade-plus musical career. He has 12 albums and more than 40 million album sales to his name, and is known for songs such as American Woman, Fly Away, It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over, Believe, Black Velveteen, Stand By My Woman and I Belong To You. His 2023 song Road To Freedom won a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song (Motion Picture), a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Song, and the Guild of Music Supervisors Award nomination for Best Song Written and/or Recorded for a Film. Last year, Kravitz was honoured with a Music Icon Award star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at the People's Choice Awards, the Best Rock Award at the 2024 Video Music Awards, and the CFDA's Fashion Icon Award. "We're thrilled to welcome Lenny Kravitz and his band back to Australia," TEG LIVE head of touring Tim McGregor said. "This dynamic live show is not to be missed. Lenny will perform all the hits, along with fan favourites from Blue Electric Light. "The energy, vocal power, and stage presence of Kravitz and his exhilarating band are truly outstanding." ARIA Hall of Fame inductees Jet will return to Australia to support Kravtix on his Blue Electric Light Tour. The band has been travelling the world to celebrate the 21st anniversary of their debut album Get Born, which has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide.
