"Play is more than just having fun": Tendulkar on International Day of Play
New Delhi [India], June 11 (ANI): On the occasion of the International Day of Play, Indian cricket legend and UNICEF Regional Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia, Sachin Tendulkar, made a heartfelt appeal to parents and caregivers, emphasizing the vital role of play in every child's life.
Through a message shared on his official X handle on Wednesday, Tendulkar underlined that play is much more than a source of enjoyment, it is a key element in a child's physical, emotional, and social development.
'Play is more than just having fun; it fosters teamwork, joy, and teaches resilience. Let us work together to safeguard every child's right to play, learn, and thrive.'

Tendulkar urged families and communities to ensure that children are given the time and space to engage in playful activities. He stressed that play is not a luxury, but a fundamental need for children to grow, learn about the world around them, and build important life skills.
With a staggering 34,357 international runs, Tendulkar is the most successful batter in cricket history. During his illustrious run in the international circuit, Tendulkar rewrote history numerous times, and many of these achievements remain unchallenged.
With technical supremacy and a natural appetite for scoring runs, Tendulkar was a class apart in the Test format. With his unwavering patience and resilience, the 'Master Blaster' has 200 Test appearances to his name, the most by any player in the format.
By implementing his picture-perfect strokes, Tendulkar garnered 15,921 runs, 51 centuries, and 2,058 fours, the highest by any player in red-ball cricket. The Indian 'God of Cricket' is the fastest to 15,000 Test runs, having achieved the feat in 300 innings, and sits alone in the exclusive club.
With a career that spanned over 22 years and 91 days, the 52-year-old has the longest career in ODIs. With a whopping 1,894 runs and nine centuries in 1998, the Indian stalwart sits at the top of the list for most runs and hundreds in a calendar year in the format.
During his run in the 50-over format, which goes far beyond the realm of impressive, Tendulkar raised his bat to celebrate 145 half-centuries and found the fence for a four on 2,016 occasions, the highest by any player that the world of cricket has ever seen.
The undisputed icon was the fastest to 18,000 ODI runs, achieving the feat in 440 innings. Just as he achieved a similar milestone in Tests, Tendulkar stands alone in the exclusive club for this achievement.
While examining his era of dominance, Tendulkar holds the highest number of Player of the Match awards (76), the most runs in a career (34,357), the most fifties (264), the most nineties (28), and the most fours (4,076) across all formats.
Tendulkar's unparalleled greatness also resonates in the fact that with 20 centuries against Australia, he has the record for most tons against a team across all formats. (ANI)

Asia Cup in limbo as PCB explores alternatives with Afghanistan amid BCCI silence
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly begun exploring alternatives amid the rising non-clarity surrounding the 2025 Asia Cup. The continental tournament has been in limbo since the deadly terrorist attack in Kashmir, where innocent tourists lost their lives, which was followed by a military showdown between India and Pakistan. India are the hosts for the 2025 Asia Cup, which is scheduled to be played in September. It was pre-decided that Pakistan would not travel to India with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) having agreed to the hybrid model, which was accepted ahead of the Champions Trophy earlier this year after the Rohit Sharma-led team was not allowed to travel to Pakistan for the ICC tournament. However, with BCCI remaining silent over the Asia Cup, PCB has initiated talks with the Afghanistan board to schedule a tri-series tournament involving hosts UAE, according to a report in the PTI. This is likely to be finalised only if the Asia Cup is cancelled. 'With the Asia Cup now unlikely to be held in India as originally planned in September due to the simmering relations between Pakistan and India, the PCB is working on another tri-series proposal,' a well-informed source in PCB told the news agency. 'The idea is that if the Asia Cup is moved to the UAE then Pakistan will play a tri-series with Afghanistan and the UAE in Dubai in August replacing the Afghanistan tour to Pakistan,' he explained. The report further stated that PCB has already started conversing with the two boards. 'If the Asia Cup is cancelled or postponed, the PCB wants the Afghanistan and UAE teams to play the tri-series in Pakistan in August,' the source disclosed. Meanwhile, sources confirmed to the PTI that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, also the ACC president, will meet soon to decide on the Asia Cup. 'The Indian cricket board is yet to confirm its willingness to host the Asia Cup at home. So, it remains to be seen when the ACC council meets and makes a call on the future of the Asia Cup which is to be held in the T20 format,' he added.

‘50 overs bhi nahi khel sakte...': Vaibhav Suryavanshi hype meets reality check; Yograj asks 'Can he survive 5 days?'
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's sensational rise in IPL 2025 has sparked a nationwide conversation. The 14-year-old dazzled in his debut season, scoring 252 runs for Rajasthan Royals, including a record-breaking 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans. His flair and audacity at such a young age had many drawing parallels with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Suryavanshi became the youngest-ever player to appear in the IPL, debuting at just 14 years and 23 days old against Lucknow Super Giants. Just nine days later, he lit up Jaipur with a jaw-dropping ton — the fastest by an Indian batter in IPL history. His red-hot form continued beyond the IPL. In a red-ball practice match at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, he reportedly smashed 190 runs off just 90 balls, making a strong case ahead of India Under-19's upcoming tour of England. But even amid the hype, a reality check came from former cricketer Yograj Singh, father of Yuvraj Singh. Speaking to InsideSport, Yograj raised a crucial question: "My vision is Test cricket. Can you survive five days? That's the real test. 50 overs - fair enough. 20 overs - fair enough. I don't go by these formats. But since they (formats) are there, you should be fit enough to play all three formats. Why do you struggle? Because you are only concentrating on T20, IPL and 50 overs. Aj toh 50 overs bhi nahi khel sakte hum log (Today, we cannot even play 50 overs). That's the way we are," he said. Yograj didn't stop there — he took a dig at coaches and administrators, accusing them of lacking passion: "All the coaches and all the administrators want to sit in the air conditioning and do things. Here, I am under 48 degrees Celsius, having a passion to produce more brilliant cricketers like Yuvraj Singh," he added. Vaibhav Suryavanshi's IPL heroics wowed fans, but Yograj Singh asks tough questions: "Can he survive five days? That's the real test of a cricketer."
