Tain man who ran from police had cannabis worth more than £20,000

A man who ran from police in Tain had cannabis potentially worth more than £20,000, a court had been told.
Dean Sutherland ran from uniformed officers when he spotted them in Mansefield Estate, Tain.
He was traced and searched, with police recovering two bags of cannabis with a combined weight of more than 1.3 kilograms.
Sutherland, 31, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court to admit a single charge of being concerned in the supply of the class B drug.
Fiscal depute Pauline Gair told the court that on March 5 last year, uniformed officers had been carrying out a foot search on an unrelated matter, when they were spotted by Sutherland.
She said: 'On observing the police, he turned and ran back the way he had just travelled.'
Seeing this, officers gave chase and Sutherland was traced in an alleyway off Scotsburn Road.
'They noted he had dilated pupils, was sweating and emanating a strong smell of cannabis,' Mrs Gair said.
Sutherland was detained for a drugs search and police recovered a rucksack and two self-seal bags containing a substance.
They also found an iPhone which appeared to have been discarded, but which Sutherland denied owning.
He was arrested and taken to the police station, where he provided a 'no comment' interview.
A search of his home address uncovered no evidence of criminality, but subsequent testing of the substance recovered revealed it to be more than 1.3kg of cannabis with a potential value of £20,875 if sold in 'one gram deals'.
Solicitor Graham Mann, for Sutherland, told the court that his client's role had been 'to hold on to those drugs' but conceded: 'It is not an insignificant quantity.'
He said: 'He was using drugs at the time and this was a means – unfortunately – of supporting that.'
Mr Mann told Sheriff Gary Aitken: 'He has expressed remorse and regret.'
Sheriff Aitken told Sutherland, of Fountain Road, Tain: 'I'm sure you appreciate now that this was an ill-advised situation to place yourself in.
'The court takes a dim view of those who are involved in the supply of controlled drugs at any stage in the supply chain.'
He placed him on a community payback order with requirements that he remain under supervision for 18 months and complete 150 hours of unpaid work in the community.

Newport drug dealer caught after his gran called police

Ethan Boddy was carrying around £900 worth of heroin and crack cocaine when officers arrested him in Newport last Christmas, the city's crown court heard. His gran had called them because he was 'causing a disturbance' in her home where he had been living on the sofa for the past six months. The defendant, who was 19 at the time, had damaged a door at the property on Monday, December 30 last year. Daniel Jones, prosecuting, said police found an iPhone on Boddy with drug-related messages such as one promising his customers: 'Anything you need.' The defendant, now aged 20, of Swallow Way, Duffryn, Newport admitted possession with intent to supply heroin, possession with intent to supply crack cocaine, criminal damage and failing to surrender to court last month. For that offence, Boddy had been remanded in custody since last Friday when he was brought before Judge Celia Hughes after being arrested. His barrister Hilary Roberts said of that experience: 'He's devastated at being inside. Emotionally, he's in pieces.' He added: 'The defendant has entered guilty pleas, he has no previous convictions whatsoever and he was only 19 at the time. 'His cognitive development is described as being immature and he tells me he's ashamed of what he did. 'He says he wasn't coerced but there was some pressure. 'I would ask that he be given one final chance.' The unemployed Boddy had been smoking cannabis since the age of 12, the court heard, and had endured 'adverse childhood experiences'. Judge Hughes told the defendant: 'The police were called to your grandmother's home where you had been living on the sofa for six months. 'There was an argument and it's said that you threatened her. 'She had called the police because she'd had enough of your behaviour and you were arrested nearby.' The judge added: 'You were attracted by the money you could earn and you went into this with your eyes wide open.' She sent Boddy to a young offender institution for 21 months but suspended the sentence for two years. The defendant must carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and complete a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement. Before he left the dock, Judge Hughes said to him: 'I hope we won't ever see you in court again.' Boddy replied: 'Thank you judge.'

Disturbing moment Cher's son Elijah Blue Allman stands in ‘zombie-like' state in 104F heat after ‘heroin overdose'

SHOCKING video shows the son of pop megastar Cher standing in a "zombie-like" state, high on drugs before he was rushed to hospital. Other disturbing footage obtained by The Sun shows Elijah Blue Allman carrying drugs wrapped in tin foil into an AirBnb before the suspected heroin overdose. 8 Elijah Blue Allman is seen receiving treatment after being found in a "zombie-like" state 8 He took a cocktail of heroin and fentanyl, the Sun was told 8 He was found standing 'statue still' in the front yard in a 'foggy, zombie-like' state 8 Elijah Allman and Kayti Edwards at dinner days before his drugs episode Witnesses say troubled Elijah, 48, Cher's youngest son, was badly sunburned and had swollen hands and feet as he stood motionless in the searing 104 degree heat in Joshua Tree, California. A video, caught on a Ring security camera earlier that day, appears to show a dishevelled Elijah unsteady on his feet as he carries his drug haul in from the car. He was dressed scruffily in blue shorts and a dirty white t-shirt, and was unshaven, with unkempt hair. The Sun can reveal the house is owned by his close pal and former Matthew Perry girlfriend, Kayti Edwards. Read more on Elijah Blue Allma HOSPITAL DASH Cher's son Elijah Blue Allman, 48, rushed to hospital after overdose Elijah went on a binge in the AirBnb and took a cocktail of heroin and fentanyl, a potent opioid drug, before paramedics were alerted, a close source told The Sun. Cops searched the property after he was taken to hospital and in photos seen by The Sun, heroin and white fentanyl powder are seen sprawled across a side-table next to rolled up paper. The powder appeared to have been 'chopped up' and snorted on the back of an iPhone. Cops subsequently stuck a "danger" notice to the front window of the AirBnB warning of the presence of fentanyl. While news reports claim Elijah was taken to hospital for a suspected overdose, friends have described the incident more as a drug-induced episode. They say Elijah, who has a history of substance abuse, desperately needs help. Cher's son Elijah Blue Allman, 48, rushed to hospital after overdose as singer says she is 'doing everything she can' Kayti, 48, told pals she was at the property on Saturday afternoon to check on Elijah after his behaviour had spiralled out of control in the days before. And on arrival she found him standing 'statue still' in the front yard in a 'foggy, zombie-like' state. A friend said: 'Kayti found him just standing there, unresponsive in her front yard, getting badly sunburned. 'He was blinking his eyes rapidly, but didn't acknowledge her at all. 'His hands and feet were also swollen, with scabs turning black, an affect of the drugs, that was what most concerned Kayti.' Paramedics were called and arrived on scene with police officers from San Bernardino Police Department - as is standard with drug call outs. The officers later executed a search warrant at the property and left a warning notice stating they had found fentanyl at the property. The pal said: 'Even the paramedics couldn't get through to Elijah when they arrived, he was just stood there staring into space for around ten minutes. 'Kayti had to convince him to snap out of it and to get on the stretcher and get some medical help.' 8 Elijah and Cher attend the 5th Annual Fire and Ice Ball in 1994 8 A police 'danger' notice is pinned to the front window of Kayti's AirBnb 8 Ring security footage appears to show a dishevelled Elijah unsteady on his feet as he carries his drug haul in from the car They added: 'Elijah had been staying at Kayti's AirBnb for over a week by that point, he arrived on June 6. 'They're old friends and he reached out and told her he needed to get out of LA and needed a place to stay. 'She met with him and took him out for dinner with her family and he stayed at a house she rents out, but she grew more and more worried about his odd behaviour. 'She'd known he had issues with drugs in the past but thought he was finally clean, but it quickly became apparent that wasn't the case, it's all very sad.' Pal Kayti, the granddaughter of screen legend Julie Andrews, had already lost her ex Matthew Perry to a drug overdose in October, 2023, and feared the same would happen to Elijah. The friend said: 'He's had drug problems for years and Kayti had supported him in the past as he tried to get clean. 'She was really worried about him when she saw what state he was in.' In a statement given to The Sun, pal Kayti said: 'Elijah and I have been close since we were teens. 8 Elijah and Cher are pictured in 2002 'Although the whole thing that happened was really scary for me it could have been a lot worsened I am glad he's in a safe spot getting better.' Pals fears Elijah's troubling condition may have been down to the heroin he took being laced with Xylazine - a powerful veterinary tranquilliser which can slow breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure to dangerously low levels. Xylazine has become increasingly popular on the US drug scene, as has Fentanyl which he also took. Fentanyl is the potent opioid drug which has infuriated President Trump who sparked a trade war with China, Mexico and Canada, accusing them of doing very little to stem the flow of the drug in the US. Last night Elijah was still being treated in hospital, but it's understood he has been transferred to a private facility in Pasadena. His famous mum Cher is said to be focused on getting him the help he needs and rallying around him, according to a source. A spokesperson for San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said: "Deputies from our Morongo Basin Station responded to a residence in Landers for a male subject acting erratically. 'When deputies arrived, Elijah Allman, 48, was being evaluated by emergency medical personnel.' 'Deputies located drugs inside the home and Allman was transported to the hospital. The investigation is ongoing." Elijah's drug history is well known. His hospitalisation comes a year and a half after his hitmaker mum Cher was denied her request to be granted a conservatorship over her son. Cher was concerned that funds given to Elijah from his trust would be 'immediately spent on drugs,' according to legal documents. A judge ruled there was 'insufficient evidence' and denied the request without prejudice. In response to the petition, Elijah acknowledged his struggles 'with addiction' and admitted he 'spent money in ways that have not always been the most responsible.' But he said he was under a doctor's care and had been attending AA meetings at the time. "I recently passed a drug test and am willing to submit to future drug tests," he added in the documents. "I am clean and sober from illicit substances for over 90 days now and am fully capable of and committed to managing the money I receive quarterly from the trust left by my late father.' Elijah's dad is Greg Allman, a frontman and co-founder of the Allman Brothers Band and a trailblazer of Southern Rock. He died in 2017 from liver cancer complications at his home in Savannah, Georgia. Cher's other son Chaz Bono was the product of the singer's relationship with Sonny Bono. She and Sonny performed together as Sonny & Cher before they split in 1974.

My crazed ex broke in as my son slept, wrote on my walls in blood & sexually assaulted me… secret phone trick saved me

Charlotte Whomsley's cries of pain were all recorded thanks to her quick-thinking actions CRY FOR HELP My crazed ex broke in as my son slept, wrote on my walls in blood & sexually assaulted me… secret phone trick saved me Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HEARING an almighty bang, Charlotte Whomsley was startled awake. Realising the noise was the sound of her front door banging open, the mum-of-two was struck by terror - she wasn't expecting anyone. 10 Charlotte Whomsley has spoken of the horrific abuse she suffered at the hands of her ex-partner Lee Young Credit: True Life Stories 10 Young (pictured) broke into Charlotte's home where he sexually assaulted her Credit: True Life Stories 10 He was found guilty of sexual assault at Leicester Crown Court and sentenced to six years Credit: True Life Stories The next thing she knew, an intruder was towering over her, but the mum-of-one quickly recognised the man inside her home as her violent ex, Lee Young. Charlotte, 36, from Lincolnshire, was asleep on her sofa when he broke into her home whilst her son slept upstairs. The quick-thinking mum used a trick she'd learned from a domestic violence Facebook post years before - she pressed her iPhone side button five times to secretly call the police. It was then that Young, 39, from Leicester, horrifically sexually assaulted her - but the attack was recorded and listened to by police, before a team stormed the house to Charlotte's rescue. Charlotte has spoken exclusively to The Sun about her harrowing ordeal for the first time to raise awareness for domestic abuse victims and help save lives. The bath and body shop owner says: 'If I hadn't known the emergency phone trick, who knows what else Lee would have done that night. He used trackers to watch my house. He made me fear for my life every day. Charlotte Whomsley 'I pray nobody finds themselves in a situation like I did. But if you do, please remember all smartphones have a way of calling emergency services quickly and discreetly. 'Make sure you know yours, as it might save your life. It saved mine.' In 2014, Charlotte and Young worked together at a coach company. She worked in the garage MOT side, and Young was a coach driver. She says: 'Lee was in and out of the office every day, between his drives. My perfect husband was hiding a twisted truth that led to a bloodbath – police found me in 'worst crime scene' ever 'We didn't get close until the next year when I'd just given birth to my second child. I was suffering badly with post-partum depression. 'On top of that, his dad and I had broken up just before he was born. We already had another son, aged 5. 'It was a horrendous time in my life. I was very low and at my most vulnerable. 'I found myself drawn to Lee as he gave me compliments each day. He cheered me up a lot.' 'Living hell' The following year, in 2016, Charlotte and Young started dating but the relationship became turbulent right away. Charlotte claims Young became "paranoid, controlling and jealous". She says: 'He would call me disgusting and ask who'd ever want me. He was convinced I still loved my ex and accused me of having affairs. 'He used trackers to watch my house. He made me fear for my life every day. 'The mental torment was worse. I constantly tried to end things, but whenever I did, he'd harass or blackmail me. 'He sent hundreds of texts a day, calling me a s**g, tramp and threatening me.' 10 Charlotte says she was in a vulnerable place when she met Young Credit: True Life Stories 10 Young would send her hateful messages calling her a s**g and a tramp, she told The Sun Credit: True Life Stories 10 He broke into Charlotte's home while she and her son were asleep Credit: True Life Stories In one day, Charlotte claims she would have over 200 missed calls from Young. She'd blocked him, yet he'd call from unknown numbers. He sent her photos of his blood splattered on the floor, some of him with head injuries, displaying bandages wrapped around his head. Charlotte says: 'I'd get new phones but he'd get my new number from work. 'Terrified he'd kill himself, I'd end up replying or answering the phone. Checking he was okay. 'For three years, we were on and off as I made numerous failed attempts to escape him. He made my life a living hell.' In May 2019, Charlotte finally cut ties for good. But Young's vile emails, texts and calls worsened. Charlotte says: 'He made fake profiles on social media, messaging me. 'Then the next month Lee smashed through my house door with a hammer, destroying my cars and popping the tyres. 'I was horrified. I stood in the kitchen begging him to leave me alone, calling 999. I had him arrested. 'Police boarded up my door and windows, they installed a special alarm, and I also installed my own CCTV.' Every 30 seconds the police receive a call for help relating to domestic abuse. But Charlotte says that Young wasn't deterred and found other ways to torment her. She explains: 'He'd send me naked photos of myself taken from when were together. He wrote underneath, 'Shame if anyone saw these.' 'I had to see him at work too. I was caring for my sons and dealing with this all. I couldn't cope. 'Eventually, in July that year, I got a molestation order against him, banning him from coming anywhere near me. I hoped it was over but I knew nothing would stop him. 'I worried every day that he'd come to kill me or the kids one day.' I finally heard police sirens. The 999 trick had worked Charlotte Whomsley Horror break-in Later that year, Charlotte tried to move on with her life, and began dating someone new. In November 2019, after she'd been seeing a new man for a few weeks, things were quiet from Young. She says: 'I hadn't been stalked or harassed by him in weeks. 'One evening, I went out on a date again. We went to a drag queen show. 'My brother came over to babysit my youngest whilst my eldest was staying at a friend's for a sleepover.' 10 Young would send Charlotte photos of injuries he had inflicted on himself Credit: True Life Stories 10 The assault left Charlotte bruised and battered but she was able to record the whole thing on her iPhone Credit: True Life Stories At around 1:30am, Charlotte came back to her home alone, where her brother and son were sleeping upstairs. 'Not wanting to disturb them, I drifted off to sleep on the sofa,' she recalls. 'But moments later, I woke to the front door slamming. 'I saw Lee towering over me. He looked scruffy and was slurring his words. I think he'd been drinking or taking drugs. 'I realised he'd broken in. I shouted at him to leave me alone and go away. But Lee was screaming at me for being a 'whore' and how he'd seen me with another man. 'I was terrified and immediately thought of my son upstairs. He was my priority. 'Trembling, I moved my hand and felt my phone underneath my pillow. 'I quickly remembered a phone trick I'd learned from a domestic violence Facebook post years before. 'I reached for my phone quietly under the pillow, and pushed the side button five times. It secretly rang 999 for me.' But the trick made a deep alarm tone. 'Lee asked what that noise and I said it was the Alexa alarm,' Charlotte says. 'I kept my gaze with Lee, who turned around, and threw the Alexa against the wall. 'He then began smashing up the living room. He was throwing the kids' toys everywhere, acting crazy.' Charlotte knew the police were listening to the call. She began to cry, begging Young to leave the house loudly so operators could hear. Charlotte says: 'Lee had gone insane. Somehow, he cut his finger whilst smashing up a candle holder. He began scribbling blood on the wall. 'He then forced his lips on me, making me tell him that I loved him. 'He pinned me to the sofa and forced his hand into my pants, molesting me. It was so painful. I was crying for him to stop and that he was hurting me. 'He kept stopping and starting, it was all about control for him. 'After 30 minutes of Lee breaking in, I finally heard police sirens. The 999 trick had worked.' 'Despicable lies' As a team of armed officers neared the house, Young fled. Whilst Charlotte sprinted upstairs and scooped her son into her arms, before hiding in a neighbour's garden. Young was arrested in front of a different neighbour's house. Charlotte says: 'Officers came to my aid. They told me they'd heard everything on the phone. I broke down. 'As I waited for the trial, I was in bits, suffering with panic attacks and flashbacks of the night. 'The police told me the attack had been recorded, and I stupidly requested to hear it. I regretted it as it sent me into a spiral. 'For mine and my children's safety, I ended up quitting my job, selling the house and leaving Leicester. To any women suffering from abuse, you can escape it. You must be strong, or you may lose your life Charlotte Whomsley 'Sadly, the wait for the trial took years. In that time, in 2020, I luckily found love. I met Todd, 35, through work friends. 'The next year, we married and had a beautiful son. I tried to settle into my new, happy life. But I still hadn't received justice.' In September 2024, Lee Young, now 39, of Sharpley Drive, Beaumont Leys, was found guilty of sexual assault by penetration at Leicester Crown Court. He was sentenced to six years and eight months. Charlotte says: 'In court, he told the jury that I'd been the one obsessed with him, ringing and begging. His lies were despicable. 'My husband supported me throughout. And thankfully, the jury saw Lee for the monster he truly was. 'Now we're trying our hardest to move on with our lives now. 'To any woman suffering from abuse, you can escape it. You must be strong, or you may lose your life. 'I also urge women to remember the silent trick on your phone. Press the side button 5 times, and the emergency SOS slider will appear. 'Drag the slider to call, then make yourself heard by coughing or responding to your abuser. It could save your life.' 10 Charlotte eventually remarried with Todd and they welcomed a son Credit: True Life Stories
