Indonesia police open probe into incest-promoting Facebook groups

JAKARTA: The police have begun cracking down on a Facebook group that allegedly posts adult content revolving around incest, amid mounting calls for the operators behind these illicit accounts to be brought to justice.
Speaking in a press conference on Saturday (May 17), Jakarta Police spokesperson Adj Sr Comr Reonald Simanjuntak said that the city police's cybercrime division has opened a probe into a Facebook group called 'Fantasi Sedarah'.
The group, which roughly translates to blood relative fantasies, had reportedly been posting incest-themed content and narratives, particularly targeting minors.
It remains unclear, however, if the Facebook group also posted explicit pictures and pornographic materials.
'The Jakarta Police's cybercrime division will investigate and probe the Facebook [group]. We will investigate and probe everything on it,' he told reporters.
The Facebook group and its content have stirred criticism from netizens across various social media platforms, many of whom are wary because some of the content sexualised children.
Some people have also flagged other groups that posted similar contents. The Communications and Digital Ministry has moved quickly by coordinating with Meta, Facebook's parent company, to block the group, along with five others that posted similar content.
"These groups fall under the [category] of disseminating [content] that contradict prevailing societal norms," Alexander Sabar, the ministry's digital monitoring director general, said in a statement on Friday.
He said the content might also harm children. The blocking of these groups, Alexander said, was in line with provisions laid out in a recently-issued government regulation on child protection in the digital world.
The regulation, signed by President Prabowo Subianto on March 28, mandates both public and private digital platforms to ensure their services are free from content harmful to children younger than 17 and that these providers must provide a safe online environment for child development.
But Alexander also said that the success of maintaining a safe digital space does not rely solely on the government and platform providers, but also requires active participation from the broader public.
"We urge the public to help maintain a safe and trustworthy digital space and to take part in monitoring any content or digital activity that could endanger our children's future," he said.
The Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry said that the content posted on these platforms constituted a form of sexual exploitation and that law enforcement authorities should look to bring the people behind these accounts to justice if the ongoing investigation uncovers evidence of criminal actions.
'Such groups clearly contradict moral values and endanger the safety and future of Indonesia's children,' the ministry's secretary Titi Eko Rahayu said in a statement on Friday.
'Sexual fantasies involving incest are not only inappropriate, but also damage public perceptions of healthy family relationships,' she added. - The Jakarta Post/ANN

Caprice posted in a recent Instagram Story. His investigations also revealed that the Facebook group has been active for over a decade and was run by two individuals: a man and a woman. Even more disturbing, the group was set to 'public,' making the vile content accessible to anyone online. Caprice confirmed he had lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and had also tagged the police force as well as the Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, for further action. 'Let's all tag @pdrmsia_official @skmm_mcmc and YB @fahmifadzil.1 together. 'I'm also asking everyone to share this video and report the 'Budak2 Sek Rendah' group on Facebook. Let's destroy this group. Don't give them any chance at all to do what they want. Because this should NEVER be normalised,' her post read. Mek Yun also spoke about society's moral responsibility to protect children from such exploitation. 'Who else is going to protect those kids and our children if not us?' she asked. Public reaction has been swift and fierce, with social media users flooding the comments sections on Caprice's and Mek Yun's posts to express disgust, support and determination to see justice served. Many rallied around the noble actions of those who brought the issue to light. 'The older one gets, the closer they should be to God, not chasing lust like mad,' a commenter posted. 'Good job Caprice, fast action on this issue. Serves those old perverts right,' a comment read on Caprice's Instagram post. 'If all you think about is what's below the waist, how are you different from an animal?' an enraged comment read. Despite the overwhelming backlash and exposure, no official statement has been issued by the police or relevant authorities on follow-up action at the time of press. The public continues to tag official bodies, demanding that legal action be taken against the administrators and members of the group.

Gerik bus crash: Accident site among roads slated for repairs in 2025 under RM55mil allocation
PETALING JAYA: The site of the tragic bus crash that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students is one of the sections along the Gerik-Jeli route slated for repair works, says Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. "I and the Public Works Department are aware of road conditions along FT04, part of the Gerik-Jeli route where the fatal accident involving UPSI students occurred," he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (June 10), to address concerns over road conditions at the accident site. "The Works Ministry has already initiated several efforts to rehabilitate the Gerik-Jeli route, particularly FT04," he said. He said in June 2023, the ministry approved an allocation of RM30mil to rebuild part of the FT04 route and another RM30mil was allocated by the Prime Minister in August to upgrade the entire Gerik-Jeli road. He said road upgrades and maintenance works were carried out at critical sections of FT04, including resurfacing and pavement upgrades, street furniture and signage repairs, bridge maintenance and the restoration of street and traffic lights. He added work was completed in stages from July to August 2023 at a cost of RM55.73mil. In 2024, RM7.2mill was allocated for further repairs on other sections of the route. He said the site where the accident occurred was a key section earmarked for rehabilitation, in 2025 with an allocation of RM55mil. "While all parties, especially the families of the victims, are still grieving this tragic event, I urge everyone to allow the authorities the necessary space to complete their investigations," he said.

Pickup truck driver swerves to avoid puddle, triggers 4-vehicle pile-up
JOHOR BARU: A pickup truck driver's attempt to avoid a water puddle led to a four-vehicle pile-up along Jalan Lingkaran Dalam early this morning in an incident that has since gone viral on social media. The 5.50am crash, near Bangunan Sultan Iskandar here, involved a Toyota Hilux, a Perodua Alza, and two motorcycles. No injuries were reported. Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said a 34-year-old man was driving the Hilux when he swerved to avoid a puddle in the left lane, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an Alza on the right lane. "The impact caused the Alza to slide forward and hit two motorcycles ahead, causing both riders to fall onto the road," he said in a statement today. A video clip of the accident, shared on TikTok and Facebook by user Mulan Woon, has since garnered public attention. Police confirmed they were alerted to the viral footage at about 10.26am today. "All parties involved have lodged reports, the case is being investigated for failing to control a vehicle while driving," Raub said. He reminded all road users to exercise caution during wet conditions and to drive within safe limits, particularly in low-visibility or water-logged areas.
