Afternoon Storms to Develop in Maryland Saturday
A few light showers started the day in western Maryland on Saturday. It's a quiet start to the day that doesn't look to end in the same way.
Saturday is a possible WJZ Alert Day.
The First Alert Weather team will be watching the risk for showers and storms to develop this afternoon, continuing into the evening. Similar to Friday, heavy rain is possible. Last night's storms produced multiple flash flood alerts in Maryland and with the ground still saturated, we could see more of the same on Saturday. Forecast models are calling for 1 inch to possibly 3 inches of rainfall here in Maryland (isolated areas could see up to 5 inches if heavy rain is slow to move out or tracks over a certain area multiple times). A few storms could be on the stronger side, producing gusty winds and possible small hail.
Highs on Saturday will be cooler - around 80°.
It'll be even cooler on Father's Day. Prepare for highs only in the upper 60s to low 70s Sunday afternoon.
Sunday also brings its own rain chance. The upcoming work week doesn't look to completely dry out until maybe closer to AFRAM weekend.

Father's Day weekend storm threat could douse grilling plans for millions in mid-Atlantic
As Father's Day weekend begins, much of the mid-Atlantic region is bracing for a significant weather system that could dampen any outdoor plans. The potential isolated flooding is not expected to bring the dramatic and deadly scenes that have unfolded this week in states such as Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana. However, the system will deliver heavy, intermittent rain and high humidity. The FOX Forecast Center is pinpointing the mid-Atlantic as a key area of concern, with an isolated flood threat highlighted for Virginia. 'That's really the only spot where we need to up urgency,' said FOX Weather Meteorologist Britta Merwin. She added that for many, the weekend will be inconvenient rather than a complete washout in any one location. 3 Heavy rain is expected to blanket parts of the US throughout the weekend. FOX Weather However, heavy rain is possible in any thunderstorms that do develop. Rain totals are expected to reach a widespread 1-2 inches from Pennsylvania down through Georgia, with locally higher amounts possible in stronger downpours. Dew points will be high, reaching into the 60s and 70s south of this boundary on both Saturday and Sunday. FOX Weather Syracuse, New York, is on track to record its 30th consecutive rainy weekend. In Burlington, Vermont, this weekend will mark 26 weekends in a row with rain. The last dry weekend there was December 14-15, 2024, according to the FOX Forecast Center. The FOX Forecast Center said the precipitation outlook keeps most of the East above average for precipitation through late June.

Mile-long stretch of downtown Olympia road, park to close for maintenance
The Department of Enterprise Services will close a portion of Deschutes Parkway and Marathon Park for maintenance next week. According to a news release from the DES, Deschutes Parkway will close to vehicle traffic from Lakeridge Drive Southwest to Fifth Avenue from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, June 16 and June 17. The roadside path and all of Marathon Park, including the parking area and restrooms, will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, June 16 to June 18. The restrooms at the Capitol Lake Interpretive Center also will be closed during this time period. The pathway through Marathon Park to the bridge over Capitol Lake also will be closed during this time. Staff will be mowing the brush along the lake, replacing broken light bulbs in streetlamps, cleaning light poles and benches along the road, and painting the interior of the restrooms at the Interpretive Center, the markings on the road and the park parking lot.
