Frisco ISD releases video of fatal track meet stabbing involving Austin Metcalf and Karmelo Anthony

Frisco Independent School District has released surveillance footage of a deadly stabbing that occurred during a track meet in April, but only under strict conditions. Under Texas open records laws, requesters may view such video in some cases, but are not permitted to record it. Camera captures distant view Austin Metcalf and Karmelo Anthony CBS News Texas The video begins several minutes before the altercation between Karmelo Anthony and Austin Metcalf. The camera, positioned near the press box, captures half of the field at Kuykendall Stadium. The tent where the incident occurred is located in the bleachers near the 50-yard line. Due to the camera's distance, individuals are not easily identifiable. At approximately 9:55 a.m., a sudden movement is seen under the tent, followed by interaction between two figures. Frisco ISD officials say this is the moment the stabbing occurred. Several people are seen walking or running away, while others approach the area. Emergency response begins Minutes later, an ambulance arrives, entering through the gate near the end zone and driving to the 50-yard line. Paramedics appear to realize they cannot reach Metcalf, who is in the bleachers, with the stretcher. They return it to the end zone, then carry it into the stands. While paramedics work on Metcalf, someone places crime scene tape and unrolls a blue tarp higher in the stands behind the tent. Police later said this is where the knife used in the stabbing was found. Stretcher moved to ambulance At about 10:13 a.m., paramedics begin moving the stretcher toward the entrance as the ambulance reverses alongside it. Six or seven individuals surround the stretcher as it is loaded into the ambulance at 10:15 a.m. The vehicle does not depart until 10:20 a.m. Police remain on scene The video continues for several more minutes, showing police activity under the tent. Prosecutors may present the footage to a grand jury.

Inmate charged with murder in stabbing at D.C. jail

A D.C. jail inmate was charged Tuesday with fatally stabbing fellow prisoner last month, police said. Marquise Jones, 26, was charged with second-degree murder while armed with a knife. He was already in the custody at the city's Central Detention Facility, where the May 12 stabbing took place. That day, police were called to jail around 2:30 p.m. after Carlos Shelley, 29, suffered stab wounds in what authorities called an 'inmate-on-inmate assault.' Shelley was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have not said what led to the stabbing. Shelley was awaiting trial on carjacking charges. In January, he was charged with possession of major contraband in the jail after a corrections officer allegedly found a homemade knife under his cell mattress. Jones was in jail on charges of possessing a prohibited weapon and a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property, court record show. Police had accused him of stealing a cellphone from a teenager at a Metro station in August. In February, after Jones pleaded guilty in that case and was sentenced to 360 days in the jail, court records show. The fatal stabbing was the second in-custody death at the jail this year, the D.C. Department of Corrections said. Last year, there were nine deaths at the jail, according to the department. A majority of those deaths were determined to be suicides, drug overdoses or heart failure. One man, 69-year-old Charles Clifford Holt Jr., died of blunt force trauma to the head, but the manner of his death has not been determined.

US Marshals escalate manhunt for fugitive dad wanted in daughters' murders

The U.S. Marshals Service has activated its elite Rapidly Advancing Manhunt (RAM) program in the urgent search for Travis Decker, wanted in connection with the murder of his three daughters in Washington state. The RAM program, according to the U.S. Marshals Service, is designed to expedite the capture of violent fugitives through real-time intelligence coordination and rapid deployment of specialized teams, is fully engaged in the effort to apprehend Decker. More than 100 officers from federal, state, and local agencies are actively involved in the manhunt in an intensive search effort that includes aerial surveillance, tracking dogs and backcountry patrols. The Marshals Service is offering up to $20,000 for information directly relating to Decker's arrest. The U.S. Marshals' continued involvement comes as the Chelan County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they have assumed the role of lead investigative agency in the girls' killings. In a clarification issued Wednesday, the department shared with Fox News Digital that the Wenatchee Police Department is no longer the lead agency in the killings. The shift in jurisdiction comes as the investigation continues to focus on rugged wilderness areas within Chelan County, where Decker was last seen. On Tuesday, June 10, authorities announced that they were zeroing in on the Army veteran. On Monday, the agency received a tip from a group of hikers of a man who appeared evasive and unprepared near the Ingalls Creek and Valley High areas late Monday night, according to the Chelan County Sheriff's Office (CCSO). "Our office recently received a tip from a hiking party who stated they spotted a lone hiker in the Enchantments area who appeared to be ill-prepared for trail and weather conditions, and appeared to be avoiding others," the sheriff's office said in a press release. Authorities subsequently acted on the tip and "spotted a lone, off-trail hiker from a helicopter near Colchuck Lake who ran from sight as the helicopter passed," CCSO said. Search teams were able to establish a trail and deploy K9s throughout the area, leading them to Ingalls Creek. SEE IT: PHOTOS OF THE SEARCH The wooded area is located approximately 30 miles from Rock Island Campground, where the bodies of Decker's three daughters, Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5, were found on June 2. The bodies were found three days after they did not return to their mother following a court-approved visit with Decker. GET REAL-TIME UPDATES DIRECTLY ON THE TRUE CRIME HUB Authorities said Decker, a former Army infantryman with survival skills, may have used his rugged survivalist capabilities to evade capture. Authorities previously described him as "dangerous," warning residents not to approach him and describing him as armed. "This is someone with military training, someone who's lived off-grid before," Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison said. "We're dealing with a highly capable survivalist who may be using the terrain to his advantage." If convicted, Decker could face a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
