A university student said his love of American Football had led him to represent a micronation off the coast of England.Rowan Milner balances his maters course at the University of Chichester with playing for the Sealand Seahawks – a team which represents the Principality of Sealand, a self-proclaimed independent state located on a former World War Two sea fort in the North Sea.He recently represented the Seahawks in February, with the next match in Brno, Czech Republic, in November."I started playing age 14. I got into it as me and my dad used to watch it on TV," he said.
"I started playing age 14. I got into it as me and my dad used to watch it on TV," he said."I did a quick Google search and found a local youth team, where I fell in love with the game and progressed until I made it on the under-19 GB squad."
The physiotherapy student has been involved with the Seahawks since 2022 when he made my debut in France, and also played for the Solent Thrashers in Southampton."My university has been very accommodating to allow me to travel, play and train, as long as I was able to maintain a good work-life balance as a student athlete," he said."They provided additional one-to-one sessions if I needed help."He urged other student athletes to prioritise their health and mental wellbeing."By doing this, you will ensure your workloads aren't too much - but if they are, chat to someone," he added."The biggest thing for me was to ensure you get enough time with your family and friends," whilst doing the things you love."Dr Connor Nyberg, senior lecturer in physiotherapy at the University of Chichester, said the institution was proud of what Mr Milner had achieved, on and off the field.

Seahawks coach slams door on Sam Darnold QB2 talk
June 3 - Pundits and proponents of starting any quarterback but Sam Darnold received an emphatic hush from Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald on Tuesday. Whether Darnold, 27, was the best option to start for Seattle this season became a hotter topic on Monday after a rough showing in organized team activities. He was intercepted twice in a span of three plays during 7-on-7 drills. A radio host asked Macdonald in an interview Tuesday morning whether he could envision another quarterback starting for any reason other than an injury to Darnold. "No, you guys are crazy," Macdonald said in the live call on 710 AM in Seattle. "I respect that you've got to ask it, but it's just a crazy question. It's just not going to happen. Sam's our starting quarterback. We love him. He's doing a tremendous job." Signed as a free agent after a resurgent season with the Vikings in which Minnesota went 14-3, Darnold is in line to take over the reins of the Seattle offense from Geno Smith. Smith was traded in March to the Las Vegas Raiders, reuniting him with former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. Rather than re-sign Darnold, Minnesota turned the offense over to second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who missed his entire rookie season following knee surgery. Seattle drafted Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe and traded backup Sam Howell to the Vikings. Macdonald insists the plan for Milroe isn't to start, but have a role in a unique package of play in each game. He estimated Darnold would still play "90 percent" of Minnesota's first-team snaps. The Seahawks emerged as a landing spot and offered Darnold a three-year deal worth more than $100 million. Macdonald said Tuesday he's not worried about the quarterback not being on the money in offseason workouts. "God forbid you're the worst payer of all time because you made one bad throw or one bad decision," he said. "That is not what we're trying to build. We want these guys to go prepare the right way and then when they go out on the practice field, go freaking let it rip and then we'll go fix it ... We've got time. It's June 3 ... They're going to get plenty of reps. We'll get those things fixed." --Field Level Media

"I look at my fitness now and I feel good. I've definitely got another year left in me. "We're in talks with the club and quite close so it will be nice to be here and be part of the team and help the boys. Hopefully I can be part of it." And with his impressive sixpack it was not difficult to see why he believes he has plenty of years left in the tank yet. But it was hard to miss the huge blotches of red across the 61-cap England star's chest and stomach. James Milner feared he may never walk normally again after freak injury setback
Brighton midfielder James Milner missed most of the season after suffering a freak issue that left him fearing for his career when undergoing an operation to resolve a knee injury James Milner feared he may never walk normally again after suffering nerve damage in an operation. The former Newcastle and Liverpool midfielder could not lift his foot after going under the knife for knee surgery. Milner, 39, featured for a single minute off of the bench in Brighton's win over Tottenham on the final day of the Premier League season. That marked the veteran's return after last playing for the Seagulls in August. Milner started Brighton's first three games of the season but was forced off the pitch against Arsenal. The ex-Manchester City ace picked up an issue in the build up to that game and required surgery to resolve an issue in his knee. The Brighton star is out of contract this summer, though boss Fabian Hurzeler has insisted he wants to retain Milner's services. But Milner's return to fitness was far from certain earlier this term after his operation saw a nerve get damaged. The former England international was unable to lift his foot as a result. 'I had a contact injury in training before the Arsenal game on my knee. It was stable and we gave it a go and my hamstring reacted. "I had a knee operation and knee reconstruction, which was fine and I would have been back at the start of December. But in the operation, a nerve got damaged. After the operation, I couldn't lift my foot or my toes. The first time I saw any flicker of life was the 31st of December." Milner admitted that the issue could have ended his career outright. Walking normally may not have even been possible. He explained: "It's been a long, tough road. The medical staff have been incredible, [club physio] Sean Duggan has been absolutely unbelievable. There was a chance I might not have come back at all. I didn't know if I could walk normally again, never mind play football. "But, thankfully, the hard work's paid off. And to get on the field today [Sunday] with the boys and see them turn it around in the second half and be a part of that was special. "I've been on the grass for a good few months now, but I just need to be careful with contact. I've just run out of time. If the season was next week, I think I would have been fit from now on. "It's not age-related, it's just one chance in however many thousand. It was just a bit of bad luck after starting the season well and feeling good." It now remains to be seen whether his career will continue at the Amex with the upwardly mobile Seagulls, Hurzeler would certainly like that to be the case. He said: "I'd like him to be here next season, but we are in discussions, let's see how he will come back." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
