It has been an expensive offseason for the Cincinnati Bengals, with much to celebrate there.
And it's been an expensive one for the Washington Commanders, too.

Who wants to spend next?
In Cincy, the team broke the piggy back to keep happy their star wide receiver tandem of Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, resulting in a cost of over $275 million between the two contract extensions.
But left in the dust - so far, anyway - is one more star
And if the Bengals can't figure out how to also keep happy their biggest defensive star, defensive end Trey Hendrickson?
Maybe that's that's where the Commanders can swoop in.
Hendrickson has asked for a contract extension since the start of the offseason. He is currently slated for an over $18 million cap hit in the final year of his deal. ... and there is market-based logic now that makes it clear he can ask for $30 mil per year or maybe even more.

He was initially encouraged to seek out a trade. That didn't work.
He's been involved in extension talks. That hasn't worked, either.
So now comes a major turn: Teams have called; we bet that group includes Washington and GM Adam Peters. The Bengals have been steadfast in stating that they want first-round value for the veteran if they do deal him.
As Hendrickson grows more angry and claims the Bengals have lied to him? That's not happening.
And another twist: ESPN is suggesting a trade that would cost Washington nothing more than two Day 3 picks and young D-lineman Jer'Zhan Newton.
Really? That's it?

Maybe Cincy management folds and pays the guy who gets a rather amazing 17.5 sacks per year.
Or maybe it means management demonstrates a willingness to accept less than a premium pick package.
Washington is shy on picks; it can only offer so much as a result of the Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel trades. But Washington isn't shy about being aggressive in talent grabs.
And to ESPN? Hendrickson is "grabbable.''

Spencer Carbery of the Washington Capitals has won the Jack Adams Award as the NHL's coach of the year. The league announced the honor Saturday after members of Carbery's family surprised him with the trophy earlier in the week. 'The best thing indication is a lot of our guys had career years, and I think he's a big part of it: the way he communicates, the way he holds guys accountable, the way he can fit guys into certain roles and use their strengths,' Capitals general manager Chris Patrick said at his end-of-season news conference. "I think the relationship between the players and the coach throughout our lineup was excellent this year.' When he was named a finalist last month, Carbery said it was an organizational award. 'I look at our entire staff and everything that they put in, our players, management to provide the players everything,' Carbery said. "It's for my name to be there as the figurehead of the organization, but I look at that to me that's a team-nominated award of what we've done as a coaching staff, management team, our players, what they've accomplished in the regular season.' Carbery drew praise from counterparts around the league for how he got an aging roster into the postseason in his first season in Washington and took it to another level by transforming the Capitals into one of the league's top teams. "He's turned them into a deep, four-line juggernaut that just wins hockey games,' said Tampa Bay's Jon Cooper, the longest-tenured coach in the league who won the Stanley Cup in 2020 and '21 and has made two other trips to the final. 'They do everything right.
