Mountainhead review: Billionaires more loathsome than the Roy family
Succession creator Jesse Armstong's first project since the HBO smash hit is the film Mountainhead, and somehow he has managed to come up with billionaires more loathsome than the Roy family.
As the world veers into an apocalyptic metldown filled with violence and burning cities (somehow eerily believable), four billionaires gather for a snowy retreat at a luxurious Utah mansion, 'Mountainhead'.

A social media app called Traam (think TikTok on steroids) is fuelling the real-world violence that has destabilised countries, and its owner Venis (
Cory Michael Smith)
is the richest man on the planet.

An Elon Musk-type who still has his direct line to the US president, Venis is in denial about the damage his platform is doing and thinks only about the profits.
Randall (Steve Carell) is another billionaire whose desire to see the world go 'transhuman' is inspired by a bad medical diagnosis, and he needs to take advantage of Venis and Jeff (Ramy Youssef) to do so.
Jeff owns an AI verification app that has the power to curb much of the misinformation on Traam, but refuses to sell to Venis.

Jason Schwartzman is Soup Kitchen, or Soups, who is the only member worth less than $1 billion, hence the unfavourable nickname. He owns Mountainhead and serves as the mediator of the group.
However, they are all pawns to Randall and this leads to their weekend retreat taking a very dark turn.
The dialogue is succint and bruta at times as the four billionaires cruelly 'razz' each other.
Thinks Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Peter Thiel on a weekend away together.
They gleefully plot a 'coup' of the world that will put the concept of the nation-state at an end. However, they are also desperately ignorant of the real world, an actual line from the movie that gives the perfect example is: "Once one Palestinian kid sees some really bananas content from one Israeli kid – it's all over!'
The concept is brilliant and the tension built up over the story keeps the film going, however it goes off the boil a bit towards the end.
It's no Succession but worth a watch, we give it three out of five stars.

The Funny Girl actress, 83 - who is currently married to fellow actor James Brolin - opened up about the topic during a recent interview with The New Yorker which was published this past weekend. I met him when I was fifteen years old, and he was twenty-one, I think.' The two stars first crossed during the production of A Hatful Of Rain which was being shown in Connecticut. In her 2023 memoir, she first touched on the possibility of having sex with Beatty and had penned, per Entertainment Weekly, 'Warren and I go back a long way (back to summer stock) and there's some water under that bridge.' Streisand added, 'Recently, we were on the phone talking politics and who knows what else when he said, "I remember why we broke up." 'I said, "When were we together?" Then I hung up and asked myself, "Did I sleep with Warren?" I kind of remember. I guess I did. Probably once.' In the book, The Way We Were actress also recalled when she first met the legendary actor in Connecticut at the Clinton Playhouse. 'He asked me to cue him on his lines. If that was a come-on, I missed it entirely. He also played the piano. I was impressed.' She continued, 'We used to eat together occasionally and talk about life. He was twenty-one, tall with movie-star looks, and women were already falling at his feet. I was sixteen.' Barbra then shared that in Beatty's memory of when they crossed paths - he had made a move on the actress, but she rejected him. 'In any event, Warren and I became friends for life. He had star quality then and he still has it now. And every time we get together we reminisce about those days.' During an interview for CBS Sunday Morning with Gayle King, Barbra explained that she didn't want to add details about her past romances in the memoir. 'Listen, I didn't want to write about any of them!' the performer expressed, which caused King to reply with, 'But you did!' The star then stated that she had been told to do so and explained, 'My editor said, "You have to leave some blood on the page."' Comedian Kathy Griffin also wrote a book in 2016 titled Celebrity Run-ins and recalled a time when she overheard a conversation taking place between Barbra and Warren, per The Hollywood Reporter. She had been talking to the songstress at a party which Beatty had also been attending and at one point, had made his way over to them. Griffin wrote that Warren had 'asked, "What's going on at this table?" I said, "Barbra's rehashing that story about how you always claim to have hooked up in the back of a car." 'Beatty took the bait. "I thought we did." Barbra started shaking her head. "Warren, I'm not going to have this fight with you again. We nev-ah hooked up."' The actor had responded with, '"Noooo, Barbra, I think we did. We were coming back from that little club in the Catskills."' Baby Princess Lilibet was the spitting image of her mother Meghan Markle at the same age - as seen in shot Duchess used for her last ever Father's Day tribute to estranged dad
A photo shared by Meghan Markle of her daughter Princess Lilibet as a baby bears a striking resemblance to one of herself at the same age. Over the weekend, the Duchess of Sussex shared a sweet Father's Day tribute to her husband Prince Harry, featuring numerous snapshots of their children Prince Archie, six, and Lili, four. The post made for the most intimate glimpse into their family life in Montecito, California yet - as Meghan shared a rare look at her children's faces. In one clip, a baby Lilibet could be seen laying on Prince Harry's chest while fast asleep, wearing a tiny knitted hat and swaddled in a blanket. As the newborn slept, Harry could be seen gently stroking her tiny hand, in footage filmed by Meghan. The rare glimpse at Lili's face - previously shown in the Sussexes's bombshell Netflix documentary in 2022 - made for a striking resemblance to an old image of Meghan at the same age. In 2016, Meghan had shared a rare image of herself as a baby in her final Father's Day tribute to her dad, Thomas Markle, from whom she is now estranged. In the image, Meghan looked almost identical to her daughter, and also lay sweetly on Thomas's chest. She had shared the post to her original Instagram account, which she later deleted upon joining the royal family following her wedding to Harry in 2018. In what makes for another parallel, Meghan had penned a thoughtful caption to her father - in her last ever Father's Day post before their fallout. She wrote: 'Happy Father's Day, daddy. I'm still your buckaroo, and to this day your hugs are the very best in the whole wide world. 'Thanks for my work ethic, my love of Busby Berkeley films and club sandwiches, for teaching me the importance of handwritten thank you notes, and for giving me that signature Markle nose. I love you xo - Bean.' Fans were quick to note how similar Lili looked to both her parents, with one Reddit user gushing previously: 'They look like copy/paste! They are just adorable!' Lilibet and Archie have long been compared to their father Prince Harry, and share his distinctive red hair. In a previous Father's Day post which she shared on her now defunct lifestyle blog The Tig in 2014, Meghan shared further happy memories from time spent with her father. She recalled a class quiz from her 7th grade English class, asking her to check her ethnicity by checking a box. Meghan said the options read as follows: 'White. Black. Hispanic. Asian/Pacific Islander'. She wrote: 'It was some sort of mandatory census that had to be completed before an exam, and there I was (my curly hair, my freckled face, my pale skin, my mixed race) looking down at those boxes, not wanting to mess up, but not knowing what to do. Not knowing which box I fit into.' After telling her father what had happened - and after being told by a teacher to just 'choose one' - she was told words 'that will stay with me forever'. Meghan said Thomas had advised her to 'draw your own box', reflecting that it was 'one of those parenting moments that no guidebook could ever prep you for'. She told another anecdote, where her father had taken apart two Barbie doll sets, as you 'could only buy a white Barbie or a black one', and made a 'custom' one to bring home instead. In the gushing tribute, Meghan recalled how her father had even helped her to turn the bathroom into a darkroom when she was 12 and hoped to become a photographer. 'And that, right there, is the point: my dad taught me to find my light. And he taught me to always make my own box,' she said.
