Volatus Aerospace Supports J.D. Irving, Limited's Vision for Drone-Powered Tree Planting in New Brunswick
VAUGHAN, Ontario, June 23, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Volatus Aerospace Corp. (TSXV: FLT; OTCQB: TAKOF; FSE: A3DP5Y) is pleased to announce a strategic collaboration with J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) to advance Spring 2025 tree planting operations in New Brunswick. This initiative supports JDI's leadership in managing working forests by integrating advanced heavy-lift drone technology to enhance their efficiency, scalability and environmental impact.
As part of the project, Volatus will provide a heavy-lift Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) capable of transporting seedlings and supplies to planting crews operating in remote and difficult-to-access terrain. All flight operations will be coordinated by Volatus' centralized Operations Control Centre (OCC) in Vaughan, Ontario, enabling real-time mission oversight and reduced environmental footprint compared to traditional ground logistics.
'Forestry is a critical pillar of Canada's economy and environmental stewardship,' said Glen Lynch, CEO of Volatus Aerospace. 'We are honoured to support JDI's long-standing commitment to well-managed working forests by contributing innovative drone logistics, training, and regulatory guidance to their Spring 2025 reforestation operations.'
Ben Lane, Operations Manager, Tree Planting, states, 'At JDI we strive to make improvements to our operations, and we always focus on our people. We needed to find safer and more efficient ways to deliver seedlings to our planters and we think drones are the answer. It has been great working with Volatus to help make this initiative a reality.'
JDI is a leader in planting trees nationally and has planted more than 1.1 billion trees since 1957. Following recent wildfire devastation, more than 5.3 billion seedlings are estimated to be needed to restore just 15% of damaged forests. Globally, the tree planting services market is expected to grow from $7.2 billion in 2023 to $12.5 billion by 2031, positioning Canada—and technologies like drone logistics—at the forefront of this expansion.
Drone-based seedling delivery is a scalable, low-cost solution accelerating global tree planting and forestry operations. By combining AI, automation, and remote sensing, drones enable high-volume planting in remote terrain with minimal environmental impact—aligning with sustainability priorities while creating long-term value in the growing carbon market.
Volatus invites investors and stakeholders interested in the economic, environmental, and technological opportunities of drone-enabled tree planting and reforestation to request our in-depth white paper on this subject by emailing the contact listed in the information section below.
The initial deployment will include:
This collaboration reflects JDI's forward-looking approach to managing working forests and Volatus' commitment to supporting client-led innovation through cutting-edge aerial solutions. The companies will also explore joint marketing opportunities to share the success of this initiative and encourage broader adoption of drone-based tree planting methods.

Toyota's Prices Are Going Up
In the market for a new Toyota? Better get to the dealership soon. Toyota will begin hiking prices for its vehicles by an average of $270 beginning in July. According to Automotive News , these latest price increases aren't in response to President Trump's 25-percent tariff on imported vehicles and auto parts. A company spokesperson said it's simply "part of our regular review of the prices." Lexus buyers won't be off the hook for additional costs, either. Prices for Toyota's luxury brand are expected to increase by an average of $208 beginning in July. Toyota & Tariffs Even though the company denies that these latest price hikes are in response to tariffs, in May, Toyota Motor North America Chief Operating Officer Mark Templin said that President Trump's plan would result in higher prices and more expensive repair bills. Templin stated: 'When it comes to tariffs on auto parts, it's important to understand the supply chains are global, they're complex, and they're very fragile. And many of the suppliers are not capitalized for an abrupt tariff. So levies on parts will negatively impact the automobile supply chain and lead to higher prices, lower vehicle sales, and will make servicing and repairing vehicles more expensive for customers.' That said, a report from Reuters suggests that Toyota is considering moving production of the newest RAV4 to the US, rather than importing from Canada and Japan. Toyota produced the outgoing RAV4 in Kentucky, Canada, and Japan, but could keep production of the next-generation model in Kentucky. The Toyota RAV4 was the best-selling SUV in the US last year and the fourth best-selling vehicle overall, with more than 475,000 units sold. Car Prices Are Going Up Toyota isn't the only automaker expected to raise prices this year. BMW has announced that it will start hiking prices in July in response to Trump's tariffs, with some models increasing by as much as $2,500. BMW did offer a temporary "price protect" program for the 2 Series and 3 Series models through April. Volkswagen also plans to increase prices in July after announcing pre-tariff pricing through June. The Jetta sedan and Taos SUV, which are both produced in Mexico, are expected to be hit hardest by price increases next month. Other brands like Ford, Subaru, and Volvo have already raised prices on their vehicles—some models by as much as $2,000. More on Tariffs Car Shipments to the US Have Fallen. Canada signs new security and defence partnership with Europe
BRUSSELS - Canada and the European Union opened a new era of transatlantic co-operation Monday with the official signing of a security and defence partnership at a joint summit in Brussels. The agreement commits Canada and Europe to collaboration on defence and is a step toward Canada participating in the continent's massive new defence procurement program, known as ReArm Europe. Prime Minister Mark Carney, who travelled to Brussels for the Canada-EU Summit, is pursuing more options for defence procurement as Canada seeks to reduce its reliance on the United States. Carney met with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the summit, before the final deal was signed. Costa said Canada and the EU are 'looking at the world through the same lens' and this meeting has taken the partnership to a new level. Von der Leyen told Carney he was 'here among friends.' She said Canada and the EU are two strong democracies bound by historic ties and connected by a 'dynamic, fair and open' trade partnership. She said the EU wants not just to reaffirm the friendship and partnership with Canada but also to reshape it. She said the agreement is the 'most comprehensive' ever completed. 'We know we can count on you and you can count on us,' she said. Carney said the leaders are putting into practice some of what they discussed at the G7 and have been working on for years. Carney said the deal is crucial for Canada and 'shows a way forward.' Under the terms of the agreement, Canada and the EU will hold an annual 'security and defence dialogue' involving top officials. The agreement also commits both partners to expanding co-operation in support of Ukraine, improving Canadian military mobility in Europe and enhancing maritime co-operation in regions of 'mutual interest' like the Indo-Pacific. Canada will need to sign a second agreement with the European Commission before it can take part in the 150-billion-euro ReArm Europe initiative. The security and defence agreement also pledges further collaboration on emerging issues in cybersecurity, foreign interference, disinformation and outer space policy. Carney also met with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever ahead of the Canada-EU Summit. De Wever said that Canada's partnership with the EU is vital now because 'we've woken up in a world that doesn't look that friendly anymore.' A government official briefing reporters on the trip said the partnership is expected to make procurement easier and more affordable, while also allowing Canada to diversify its sources of equipment. On Tuesday, Carney travels to The Hague for the NATO summit, where member nations will decide whether to fully endorse a substantial increase in the defence spending target, from two per cent of GDP to five per cent. Carney said earlier this month Canada would increase its defence spending this year to meet the two per cent target for the first time since it was established in 2014. This report was first published by The Canadian Press on Jun 23, 2025.

EU and Canada Sign Security Pact as Carney Pivots From US
The European Union and Canada have signed a security partnership that moves them closer to cooperation on military purchases, as Prime Minister Mark Carney aims to reduce his country's dependence on the US for defense. Canada sees the move as a first step toward participation in the 27-member bloc's €150 billion ($173 billion) joint-purchase loan pool dubbed Security Action for Europe (SAFE), part of its proposed €800 billion ReArm Europe initiative. Access to SAFE still has to be negotiated and requires purchase-by-purchase agreements led by European partners.
