has triggered a fuel crisis in Pakistan's Balochistan province, which shares borders with Iran and Afghanistan, PTI reported.
Since Sunday, many petrol stations that rely on smuggled petrol and diesel from Iran began shutting down across Balochistan, creating panic among residents. Hundreds of vehicle owners, who queued at petrol stations, returned disappointed as these outlets closed operations.
Deputy commissioners across Balochistan later issued notifications suspending all pedestrian and trade movement, including fuel deliveries, indefinitely as a "precautionary security measure." The notifications also stated that the border crossings with Iran in Panjgur and Gwadar districts were sealed for security reasons. The Gabd-Kalato 250 border point in Gwadar, a key route for local trade and oil transport from Iran, was also closed until further notice, a Levies official confirmed.

Despite bans in certain areas, Iranian fuel remains the primary supply source for Balochistan due to its lower price compared to locally processed fuel. The Levies official said the Israel-Iran conflict disrupted the fuel supply from Iran as the smuggled fuel enters Pakistan through border towns.

Border districts such as Turbat, Gwadar, Panjgur, Chagai, Washuk, and Mashkail have been worst-hit, facing not only fuel shortages but also food scarcity, as most edible supplies come from Iran. Around 60 to 70 per cent of petrol stations have shut down due to the disruption in Iranian oil smuggling through Makran, Rakhshan and Chagai areas.
However, Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind dismissed reports of a province-wide fuel shortage. "There is no fuel shortage in the province, as most petrol stations are open in the provincial capital," PTI quoted him as saying.
Rind added, "Petrol stations selling Iranian oil are a safety hazard, which is why the government initiated action against them earlier this month."
He also alleged that, "People minting money by selling Iranian petrol and diesel had started spreading rumours to create panic."
"These so-called shortages are being exaggerated by those who want to lift the ban on smuggled Iranian fuel," he said.

The Chief Minister said the government was establishing Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day Boarding Schools in every assembly constituency, with a budget provision of Rs 200 crore this year. The schools would offer education from pre-primary to Class 12 as per the CBSE curriculum and would be equipped with high-tech smart classrooms, playgrounds, indoor stadiums, swimming pools and music rooms. He urged the youth to creatively use new technology and appealed to teachers to continually guide students so that the younger generation becomes capable, aware, and responsible.

Assam begins drive to bulldoze over 600 homes in Goalpara district
The Assam government on Monday began its drive to demolish the homes of 667 families, the majority of them belonging to Bengali-origin Muslims, in an anti-encroachment drive in the Goalpara district. Goalpara District Commissioner Khanindra Choudhury told Scroll that 45% of the homes on an allegedly encroached land in the Hasila Beel area were razed on Monday. The demolition drive will continue on Tuesday to clear the remaining structures, he added. 'There was no resistance from the encroachers and no untoward incident has been reported so far,' PTI quoted Choudhury as saying. The official claimed that the district administration had served eviction notices to the villagers in 2023 and 2024, instructing them to vacate the 'wetland area'. 'We again served them notices on Friday and asked them to clear their houses by Monday morning,' PTI quoted Choudhury as saying. Many residents left the village with their belongings, while the remaining families have requested that the district administration rehabilitate them. Since the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in Assam in 2016, more than 10,620 families – the majority of them Muslim – have been ousted from government land, according to data provided by the state revenue and disaster management department in August. In September, the Goalpara district administration carried out a demolition drive in which 450 families, or about 2,000 persons, were evicted. The families were illegally occupying 55 hectares of the Bandarmatha Reserve Forest, the newspaper quoted unidentified officials as saying. The evictions in Goalpara were carried out in line with a High Court order. This had come less than two weeks after two men were shot dead by the police amid violent protests during an eviction drive in Moregaon. On September 9, the district authorities bulldozed nearly 240 homes, the majority of them belonging to Bengali-origin Muslims from Morigaon district. The residents had built their homes in the low-lying area over several decades. Three days later, on September 12, the officials returned and gave them an ultimatum to vacate the land in two hours. This led to a violent clash between the residents and the officials, during which two men were shot dead by the police. Thirty-three persons, including 22 government and police officers, were also injured in the clash.

Family members scared, calling me multiple times: Indian student studying in Iran
Faizan Ali, a 21-year-old student of Kerman University of Medical Sciences in Iran, has never got so many calls from family members as much as he is receiving these days. Ali, who hails from Srinagar, told PTI that his family members are scared for his safety amid the Iran-Israel conflict . "I have been in boarding school since class 7 and I am not used to talking to my family members daily. But ever since Israel launched attack on Iran, my family has been calling me 10 times a day inquiring about my well-being," he said over a WhatsApp call. Ali, who is in first year of the medical college, said their exams were ending on Tuesday, but the university has announced cancellation of exams and closure of the varsity till October. (Join our ETNRI WhatsApp channel for all the latest updates) "We have been told that we can go back home. There are over 120 students from Kashmir in our university. But our side is relatively safe. Tehran is completely devastated," he said. We heard gunshots. The students in Tehran are really scared. Since it is the centre of the country, evacuation is also a challenge. On Sunday, Indian nationals in Iran were asked to exercise due caution and maintain contact with the Embassy of India in Tehran through its social media accounts in view of the current situation in the country following the launch of strikes by Israel. Israel on Friday last launched Operation Rising Lion to strike at Iran's nuclear, missile and military complexes. The strikes left key military commanders and nuclear scientists dead. Iran retaliated by launching waves of drones and ballistic missiles at Israel.
