German Ambassador Returns to Arish to Oversee Humanitarian Aid for Gaza

German Ambassador to Egypt Jörg Schulz traveled to Arish this week for the third time since taking office in August 2024, as part of Germany's ongoing support for humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza. His visit coincided with the arrival of a German Red Cross aircraft carrying 98 tons of life-saving supplies, including essential shelter and protection materials for civilians affected by the crisis.
The shipment included 217 pallets of critical aid, among them 75 pallets containing 450 family tents and 142 pallets with approximately 14,000 tarpaulins. Upon arrival in Egypt, the supplies were officially handed over to the Egyptian Red Crescent, which will coordinate delivery to the Palestinian Red Crescent for distribution in Gaza as soon as conditions on the ground allow safe access.
Ambassador Schulz described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as "catastrophic," and reaffirmed Germany's commitment to a lasting and sustainable ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. He emphasized the urgent need to allow uninterrupted humanitarian access, ensure the immediate release of hostages, and prevent any politicization or obstruction of aid.
'We continue to support a permanent ceasefire,' he said. 'It is critical that all parties fulfill their international obligations and guarantee that humanitarian assistance reaches those in need—safely, swiftly, and without conditions. We value Egypt's crucial role in mediation and its efforts to extend the ceasefire.'
During his visit, the ambassador held high-level discussions with North Sinai Governor Major General Dr. Khaled Megahed, focusing on the evolving regional situation. He also toured the Rafah border crossing and visited the logistics center of the Egyptian Red Crescent, where he met with staff and received briefings on current humanitarian operations.
Germany remains one of the largest international donors to humanitarian efforts in the Palestinian territories. Since October 7, 2023, the German Foreign Ministry has provided more than €300 million in aid, with over 90% directed to Gaza. The World Food Programme, supported significantly by Germany, currently maintains around 12,000 tons of food supplies in Gaza, enough to cover just over a third of monthly needs.
At the close of his visit, Ambassador Schulz reaffirmed Germany's long-term commitment to the people of Gaza.
'Germany will continue to stand with the people of Gaza in their pursuit of a better future. A permanent resolution to the conflict is in the interest of all,' he said.

Rwanda Withdraws from ECCAS over Blocked Leadership Transfer
Israa Farhan Rwanda has officially withdrawn from the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) after the regional bloc refused to grant it the rotating presidency, in breach of its charter. The decision was announced in a statement published by *The New Times* and marks a significant diplomatic shift in Central African regional politics. According to the Rwandan government, the refusal to transfer leadership as scheduled violates the foundational agreements of ECCAS. Kigali declared that it no longer sees value in remaining part of a body that operates contrary to its governing principles. The dispute escalated after ECCAS members voted to extend Equatorial Guinea's presidency for an additional year, despite the standard rotation that would have seen Rwanda assume leadership. The move was reportedly supported by Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with the DRC accusing Rwanda of backing rebel groups in its eastern provinces. In response, Rwanda has also submitted a formal complaint to the African Union, condemning what it described as illegal actions by ECCAS. Established in 1983 and based in Libreville, Gabon, ECCAS comprises Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and São Tomé and Príncipe. Turkish Embassy in Cairo celebrates Eid Al-Adha with families from Gaza, Egypt
Basant Ahmed The Turkish Embassy in Cairo, in cooperation with the Palestinian Embassy, the Egyptian "Awladi" Association, and the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (İHH), distributed sacrificial meat to Palestinian and Egyptian families. Ambassador Salih Mutlu ŞEN welcomed the guests during the event and said that unfortunately the deteriorating situation in Gaza spoils the joy of Eid for the Islamic world. Nearly 700 people participated in the solidarity event on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. Ambassador Salih Mutlu ŞEN said that they pray for peace, security, and prosperity for the oppressed brotherly Palestinian people, the entire Islamic world, and all of humanity on this Eid. He expressed their desire to implement relief activities as soon as possible for Palestinians residing in Egypt and those in need in Gaza, in cooperation with the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the Turkish Red Crescent, and Turkish civil society organizations. Over 300,000 Protesters in Rome Demand End to Gaza Massacre
Israa Farhan More than 300,000 people took to the streets of Rome on Saturday to demand an immediate end to what demonstrators described as a massacre in Gaza, marking one of the largest protests in Italy in recent years. The mass rally, organized by a coalition of left- and right-wing opposition parties, was a powerful show of solidarity with the Palestinian people. According to Italian news agency Nova, the demonstration was supported by the Democratic Party (Centre-left), the Five Star Movement (right-wing populist), and the Green Left Alliance. Protesters waved Palestinian flags and peace banners while chanting calls such as Stop the massacre and No more complicity. Italian political leaders addressing the crowd called for an immediate end to what they labelled crimes against Palestinian civilians. They denounced the policies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's far-right government. Criticism was also directed at Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for her government's silence on the situation. Opposition figures urged Meloni to recognize the State of Palestine, asserting that Palestinians deserve the same right to peace and sovereignty as Israelis. Giuseppe Conte, head of the Five Star Movement and Italy's former prime minister, condemned the government's position, calling it a national disgrace. He accused Italy of passively allowing the destruction of Gaza, highlighting the deaths of over 60,000 Palestinians, including 16,000 children, and the destruction of schools, hospitals, and homes. Conte labelled the crisis a genocide and firmly rejected claims of antisemitism, stating that criticizing Netanyahu's government is not equivalent to hatred against Jews. Leaders of the Green Alliance echoed this sentiment, condemning the supply of arms to Israel. Nicola Fratoianni, a senior member of the alliance, criticized Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini for travelling to Tel Aviv and shaking hands with Netanyahu, calling the gesture shameful. Fratoianni demanded that Italy and the European Union take concrete action by recognizing Palestinian statehood, suspending the EU-Israel agreement, halting arms deals, and imposing sanctions.
