AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan lays roadmap for strengthening Congress
HYDERABAD: In a decisive step towards strengthening Congress' organisational structure at the grassroots ahead of the upcoming local body elections, AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan laid a comprehensive roadmap for the newly appointed district observers of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC).
During a high-level orientation programme held at Gandhi Bhavan here on Wednesday, Natarajan stressed the need to strengthen the organisational structure from the village level.
'Party ideology propagation and strengthening of organisational structure should begin from the village level. The leadership should work seriously and with great sincerity in this matter.'
She also exhorted her colleagues to adopt the Gujarat model of strengthening the party. The orientation session focused on three key mobilisation tasks, to be rolled out from April 25 to May 20, across Assembly, district and mandal levels.
The first responsibility involves convening district-level meetings aimed at reviewing and validating the leadership of block and mandal Congress committees. The TPCC observers have been directed to collect all details of block Congress committee presidents, including photographs, in the prescribed format.
Samvidhan Bachao Sabhas
This phase also includes preparatory meetings for the upcoming 'Samvidhan Bachao Sabhas' scheduled between May 3 and May 10, alongside reviews of the ongoing Samvidhan Bachao Padayatra. Invitees to these meetings include a broad spectrum of party functionaries-ranging from current and former MPs, MLAs and MLCs to local-level office bearers and senior leaders.
Moving down the hierarchy, second task targets the mandal Congress committees. The TPCC observers are instructed to validate the functioning of both the mandal and block-level executives and office bearers.
As with the first phase, all information is to be systematically collected and uploaded using formats that will soon be shared by the TPCC via Google Forms. This stage also serves as a preparatory ground for the Assembly-level 'Samvidhan Bachao Sabhas,' scheduled between May 11 and May 17.
The final phase zeroes in on the grassroots work with mandal-level meetings focusing on the village Congress committees.
Particular emphasis is placed on reviewing the reach and effectiveness of the 'Samvidhan Bachao Padayatra' across every village in the mandal, signifying the party's intent to invigorate its presence at the lowest rungs of political mobilisation.
Later in the day, Congress MPs, including Mallu Ravi, Suresh Kumar Shetkar, R Raghuram Reddy, Kadiyam Kavya and M Anil Kumar Yadav called on Natarajan. They gave a presentation on welfare and development projects being run by the Congress government under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in the state.

Opposition demands details of Supreme Court findings on Justice Varma
Some Opposition parties are urging the government to share with them the findings of the Supreme Court-appointed panel against high court judge Yashwant Varma in the "cash seizure" case as the ruling side is seeking multi-party support for its push for bringing an impeachment motion against the judge. The more damning the findings, the more inclined the Opposition would be to back the proposed impeachment move, said people familiar with the matter, even as leaders of Opposition parties including the Congress were still firming up their formal response. Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju informally reached out to at least two Congress MPs, and some regional parties, seeking support for the motion. "I can't say what is going on between the government and Opposition on the impeachment issue. But, according to the rules, the Members of Parliament, not the government, can move an impeachment motion against a judge with the required number of signatures for admission. So, for us MPs, to sign the proposed impeachment motion, we would require knowing what exactly the case for impeachment against justice Varma is," said Congress' Rajya Sabha member Vivek Tankha, a senior advocate. "So, we expect the government side to share with the Opposition the findings of the Supreme Court-appointed panel that looked into the complaints against justice Varma." Tankha had earlier written to the Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankar, urging him to take steps to ensure MPs' get access to the panel's findings. Some sections in the Opposition nurse a grudge against the government earlier opposing and blocking the Opposition push for impeachment of the then CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Allahabad High Court judge Shekhar Kumar Yadav. There is yet another section which views the case against justice Varma with a sense of suspicion and as part of a crafty manoeuvre. Yet, many in the Opposition feel that the prospect of the ruling side unveiling, formally or informally, critical findings of corruption by the Supreme Court-appointed panel against justice Varma, and the fact that the CJI had forwarded that findings to the government for considering action against the judge, would guide the Opposition's response. Live Events "Corruption in the judiciary is a matter of concern for all citizens and political parties. It cannot be tolerated, and strong measures must be taken to root it out. At the same time, the independence of the judiciary is crucial and the judiciary must remain free from political influence," said D Raja of the CPI, which has two MPs in both Houses. "As far as the impeachment motion is concerned, the government should consult with Opposition parties. It should not assume that it can proceed unilaterally on such important matters."

Jammu, June 4 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Congress on Wednesday staged a protest against a BJP MLA over his alleged derogatory remarks against UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Protesting Congress leaders burnt an effigy of the BJP MLA in protest led by senior women leaders. According to reports, BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa was caught on camera saying that the two leaders did not know the value of 'sindoor' because they never wore it. Joined by senior PCC leaders, the protestors raised slogans and demanded that the BJP high command should apologise to CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for the derogatory utterances of the BJP MLA besides taking action against him. 'The remarks are not only outrageous and shameful, but an insult to the dignity of Indian women and an attack on the values that define Indian society,' they said. Senior Congress leader, Namrta Sharma condemned the remarks and demanded the immediate suspension of the BJP MLA. She stated, 'Sonia Gandhi lost her husband, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, in service of this nation. The sindoor she wears is not a symbol of tradition alone, but a mark of sacrifice, courage, and devotion to India. Mixing such sacred sentiments with your dirty political agenda reflects the moral bankruptcy of BJP leaders.' Zahida Khan also condemned the remarks, stating that such language has no place in any civilised society. Census to begin Feb 2027, March 1 set as reference date
India's 16th Census is set for October 1, 2026, in snow-bound areas and March 1, 2027, elsewhere. The Home Ministry plans to issue a notification by June 16, 2025. Caste enumeration will occur alongside the census. The Congress party criticizes the delay, alleging the Modi government's failure to meet deadlines. The last census was in 2011. Remove Ads The much-delayed 16th Census exercise, along with caste enumeration , will be carried out with a reference date of October 1, 2026 in snow-bound areas like Ladakh, and March 1, 2027 in the rest of the country, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced on to officials, the process will begin with the issuance of a notification, which is tentatively scheduled to be published in the official gazette on June 16, 2025, under Section 3 of the Census Act, 1948. The final phase of enumeration will begin in February 2027 and conclude on March 1, 2027, which will serve as the national reference date."It has been decided to conduct Population Census 2027 in two phases, along with enumeration of castes. The reference date will be 00:00 hours of March 1, 2027," the MHA said in a Ladakh and other non-synchronous, snow-bound areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, the reference date will be 00:00 hours of October 1, 2026, the ministry Census of India is carried out under provisions of the Census Act, 1948 and the Census Rules, 1990.
