Aishwarya Raghupathi tears into reporter's ‘sexist' remark about her outfit; holds her ground as mediapersons try to school her: ‘Do men like you think…'

Although we live in 2025, misogyny and sexism remain deeply ingrained in the minds of many, almost inseparably. While women in general are unfortunately forced to navigate these issues on a daily or even hourly basis, the situation is often worse for female actors, who must do so under constant public scrutiny. Actor-anchor Aishwarya Raghupathi recently found herself at the receiving end of such mistreatment when a mediaperson asked a tasteless question about her attire during a press meet. Although he attempted to cover it up by claiming he was merely pointing out that cotton sarees are summer-friendly, it was more than evident to many, including Aishwarya, that he was referring to her sleeveless blouse.
The incident in question reportedly happened a fortnight ago while Aishwarya was hosting a promotional event. Speaking on the occasion, she advised the audience to stay cool and hydrated to beat the intense summer heat. Seizing the moment, a male reporter crudely asked whether her attire — she was wearing a green saree and sleeveless blouse — was part of her strategy to cope with the weather. Shocked by the inappropriate question posed in front of a crowd, it took Aishwarya a moment to collect herself. When she asked why her clothes were even a topic of discussion at a film-related event, the reporter defended his comment, insisting he was simply highlighting the practicality of cotton sarees in summer seasons and demanded a 'simple yes or no' answer from her. Aishwarya, however, ended the discussion by replying that she didn't know how to respond to such a question.

At a more recent event, she addressed the matter directly and at length. She also criticised the other media personnel present at the earlier event for their silence. 'It took me five seconds to realise you asked if I wore sleeveless to feel the breeze. I didn't know whether to respond in anger or stay calm. I may not have reacted then, but the people did.' She went on to call the reporter's subsequent Facebook post a 'crooked justification' and asked, 'Do men like you think you can overpower me because I stayed patient?'
However, rather than reflect on the criticism, some members of the media at the event appeared offended and threatened by seeing a woman raising questions against a man's alleged misbehaviour. In a video that has since gone viral, a few reporters, particularly the senior ones, can be seen aggressively approaching the podium to defend their colleague. Undeterred, Aishwarya continued, 'What was the link between drinking water and my saree? Why didn't any of you question him then?'
As tensions escalated, the event organisers intervened and ushered her off the stage to proceed with the event. Last week, Aishwarya, also known for her role in director Arun Matheswaran's Dhanush-starrer Captain Miller (2024), released a statement addressing the issue: 'It's disheartening that even today, many men in our society still carry a sense of male ego and chauvinism. What's even more disappointing is when such behaviour comes from someone like a reporter, who should know better.'

Rana Daggubati On Deepika Padukone's 8-Hour Shift Row: 'Nobody Is Forcing...'

Last Updated: Rana Daggubati addresses Deepika Padukone's Spirit controversy, saying work hours in film vary and are a personal choice, not a forced condition. Deepika Padukone's exit from Spirit, the much-anticipated project by Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has ignited a wider industry debate on working conditions and contractual expectations within Indian cinema. The new mom reportedly opted out of the Prabhas-starrer over disagreements related to an 8-hour workday clause and profit-sharing demands. While opinions have been sharply divided—especially after Vanga's cryptic but scathing post aimed at the actress—actor Rana Daggubati has stepped in with a more balanced and thought-provoking perspective. Speaking to The Lallantop, Rana offered a nuanced take on the issue of working hours in the Indian film industry, grounding his thoughts in the socio-economic realities of the country. 'We should understand that India is a developing country. We are not a developed nation. Our economy is probably 186th in the world if you look at per capita income," he said. 'In a country that has 1.8 billion people and 70–80 percent of those earn ₹100 a day, when we start seeing things in that light, we realise we have a big place to catch up." For Rana, who hails from the Telugu film industry, work culture isn't just professional—it's personal. 'I come from an industry that moved from Madras. It was a bunch of families and hundreds of others who packed their bags and started over in another city. So to me, it's not work—it's a lifestyle." He went on to emphasize that working conditions vary widely across regional film industries and even across individual projects. 'Like in Maharashtra, it's a 12-hour shift. In Telugu, it's 8 hours. But while Maharashtra starts at 9 am, Telugu starts at 7 am. If you're on location or in a studio, if you're shooting on a set—it all affects the equation. It's never generic," he explained. Addressing concerns around actors being overworked or forced to stay longer on set, Rana was clear: 'Nobody is forcing anybody. It's a job. Just like nobody forces you to do a particular show—it's always a choice. Everyone decides what's important in their life. There are actors who shoot for only 4 hours—that's their system." Earlier, Deepika's decision to walk away from Spirit was met with a public outburst from Sandeep Reddy Vanga. In a fiery post on X, he lashed out without naming her directly. 'There is an unsaid NDA between us. But by doing this, you've 'disclosed' the person that you are," he wrote. He further accused the actress of trying to 'put down a younger actor" and questioned her brand of feminism, adding, 'You didn't get it. You won't get it. You will never get it." First Published:

Rana Daggubati breaks silence on Deepika Padukone's alleged 8-hour workday demand for exiting Prabhas's 'Spirit': ‘There are actors who only work four hours a day…'

Tollywood star Rana Daggubati has joined the ongoing discussion about work-life balance following Deepika Padukone 's alleged demand for eight-hour workdays in Sandeep Reddy Vanga 's film 'Spirit', which recently stirred considerable buzz in the entertainment industry. Reports suggested that Deepika opted out of the Prabhas-starrer due to contractual disagreements regarding her working hours and remuneration. Rana Daggubati on work life balance In an interview with The Lallantop, Rana offered a perspective on the practicality of implementing uniform work schedules in the Indian film industry. 'We should understand that India is a developing country. We are not a developed nation. Our economy is probably 186th in the world if you look at the per capita income. So to me, it is not work, it is a lifestyle,' he stated. No Makeup, All Style: Deepika Padukone's Travel Fashion Win Rana also highlighted the diverse nature of film production across various regions. The Telugu actor explained that there is no universal template.'It depends on the project, the person, and the region. For example, Maharashtra follows a 12-hour shift starting at 9 am, while Telugu cinema typically has an 8-hour shift beginning at 7 am,' he noted. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Rana about Deepika's alleged 8-Hour workdays demand He further shared his personal view on the physical and mental toll of extended shooting schedules on actors. 'Nobody is forcing anybody. It's a job. It's a choice. Everyone has their own opinion on what's important to them. There are actors who only work four hours a day — that's their system,' he said. About Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Deepika Padukone's cold war Amidst the ongoing debate, a new report from News18 claimed that Deepika Padukone's exit from Spirit had no connection to work-life balance. Instead, the report alleged that she had demanded a higher remuneration along with a share in the profits, and had declined to deliver dialogues in Telugu. However, the Jawan actress' team has yet to respond to these claims. Following her departure, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga posted a cryptic message on X (formerly Twitter), referring to it as a 'dirty PR game.' The director, in a conversation with News18, said, 'In 2011, after Tanu Weds Manu, I was curious to see how a person like me would handle tragedy. When Himanshu (Sharma, the writer) brought the world of Raanjhanaa to me, I was eager to explore a story centred on love and tragedy." He added, ' Tanu Weds Manu was all about fun and games within my middle-class world. Raanjhanaa was a step forward. Twelve years later, this 53-year-old man is keen to see his growth in the tragedy genre. It's a different story now. Whether it's more mature or not is up to the audience and reviewers to decide.
