Bruce C Nuclear Project - Public Comments Invited and Information Sessions on the Draft Integrated Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines and Public Participation Plan

What is happening? OTTAWA, ON, June 12, 2025 /CNW/ - The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) are conducting an integrated assessment for the proposed Bruce C Nuclear Project, a new nuclear generating station at the existing Bruce Power site near the Municipality of Kincardine, Ontario. As part of the planning phase in the integrated assessment process, IAAC and the CNSC invite Indigenous Nations and communities and the public to review and provide feedback on the draft Integrated Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines (draft Integrated Guidelines) and the draft Public Participation Plan (draft Plan). The draft Integrated Guidelines outline the specific factors to be considered in the assessment of the project and provide direction to the proponent, Bruce Power, on the studies and information required in its Impact Statement, as well in the licence application for a licence to prepare site. The draft Plan explains how the public will be engaged throughout the review process and provides details on how and when public participation opportunities will take place for each phase of the integrated assessment. The project is subject to an integrated impact assessment since it must meet the requirements of both the Impact Assessment Act and the Nuclear Safety and Control Act. IAAC and the CNSC are working together on the project's review to achieve the goal of "one project, one review." How can I participate? Comments should be submitted online by visiting the project home page on the Canadian Impact Assessment Registry (reference number 88771). The draft Integrated Guidelines and the draft Plan are also available on the Registry. Participants who wish to provide their input in a different format can contact IAAC by writing to [email protected]. Submit your comments online by 11:59 p.m. on July 11, 2025. Statement from Bea Bruske, President of the Canadian Labour Congress, on the G7 Summit

OTTAWA, ON, June 12, 2025 /CNW/ - From Kitimat to Selkirk, Sault Ste. Marie to Alma, and now Hamilton—workers across Canada are bracing for the next round of layoffs. Entire industries are being hollowed out. Families are living in a constant state of uncertainty, fearing the loss of their homes, their savings, and their livelihoods. In this moment of deep economic anxiety, Canadians deserve leadership that listens to working people and puts their priorities first. Instead, the federal government is choosing to host a G7 Summit that's out of step with the real struggles people are facing. Inviting Donald Trump—whose track record includes open hostility toward workers and unions—is a slap in the face to the thousands of Canadians still waiting to hear whether they'll have a job next week. At a time when our country is battling wildfires, rising inequality, and runaway housing costs, this move sends all the wrong signals. We are also deeply concerned by the invitation extended to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the face of ongoing concerns about foreign interference and political violence targeting diasporic communities in Canada, this decision is not only inappropriate, it's dangerous. Canada must send a clear message: political violence and foreign interference have no place on Canadian soil. While millions in taxpayer dollars are being spent on this summit, workers are being told to tighten their belts. But we can't build a just economy by cutting corners for communities while rolling out the red carpet for controversial world leaders. The Canadian Labour Congress calls on the federal government to redirect its focus toward the people who build this country, keep it running, and deserve a future they can count on. Now is the time to invest in good jobs, strong public services, and resilient communities—not empty pageantry.

STATEMENT - National Coordinators advance work on Icebreaker Collaboration Effort Français

Representatives from Canada, Finland and the United States met to discuss the next steps in the collaboration to build Arctic and polar icebreakers OTTAWA, ON, June 12, 2025 /CNW/ - The National Coordinators of the Icebreaker Collaboration Effort (ICE Pact) and other officials from the governments of Canada, Finland and the United States (U.S.) have successfully concluded a 2-day meeting to discuss their shared commitment to strengthening Arctic presence and icebreaking capabilities through the ICE Pact. During the discussions, delegates from Canada, Finland and the U.S. successfully advanced deliverables under the ICE Pact workplan by focusing on the 4 areas of work: technical expertise and information exchange, workforce development, relations with allies and industry, and research and development. The 3 countries each presented their initial review and analysis of their Request for Information, which collected industry views and recommendations within their respective markets. This will help in engaging with interested shipyards and supply chains, and in laying the groundwork for future involvement with the private sector. The delegates also participated in a panel discussion and roundtable with Canadian industry, academia and think tank representatives, hosted by the Canadian Global Affairs Institute. The event was an important forum to discuss the purpose and potential of the ICE Pact and identify opportunities for industrial collaboration. Participants shared valuable insights into the national perspectives on the ICE Pact and Arctic collaboration, promoting trilateral cooperation and strengthening stakeholder support for ICE Pact activities. The 3 partner countries concluded a successful meeting with a strong commitment to continue the ICE Pact work. They agreed to meet again in-person in fall 2025. The U.S. will host the next meeting.
