It is well-known how dedicated a fanbase can be, and the Edmonton Oilers fandom is one of them. In the recent episode of 'Breaking the Ice' podcast, Chloe Skinner, the Oilers' goalie's wife, shared how the fandom took it far by sending threats to her and her kids on social media.
She further went on to add that there were times when security had to be involved for the family to safely pass a place. The revelation brings to the question of whether it is right for people to behave erratically towards the players' families after the team loses a match.
Chloe Skinner revealed getting death threats from fans
Chloe Skinner appeared on the recent episode of 'Breaking the Ice' podcast where the Oilers' star goalie's wife shared a couple of things. One such discussion went towards how dedicated the fanbase is towards the Oilers, and how things can turn ugly if the team loses a match.
She explained how the fans 'breathe' Oilers and their reactions get intense when the team loses.
'There was times where security had to be involved. I specifically have DMs filled with death threats towards the kids, towards myself, from anonymous accounts [with] people hiding behind their screens.'
Skinner further went ahead to explain how fans used to threaten her and the kids by saying they if they ever saw them in public, they would 'take us (Chloe and kids) out.'

'It gets intense, and I'm making it lighthearted right now, but when I do read those, I get really scared, and I do obviously worry for the safety of my family and my young boys. It's terrifying to think that there might be people out there who are going to hurt us over the result of a game. It is a little deranged.'
Though Skinner shared the incident humorously, she admits that it was a tough period as she was scared to step out of the house. Though it is known that fans can react intensely towards a game, sending threats to the player's wife and kids is something that should not be normalized.

Trump condemns ‘terrible shooting' of Minnesota lawmakers, calls it a targeted attack

US President Donald Trump on Saturday condemned what he described as the 'terrible shooting' of two Democratic state lawmakers in Minnesota, calling it a targeted act of violence that must not be tolerated. 'I have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers,' Trump said in a statement. 'Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America.' The shooting spree, which took place Saturday morning in two towns near Minneapolis, killed former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, and left state Senator John Hoffman and his wife wounded. Authorities believe the attack was politically motivated. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz confirmed the details during a press conference, calling it 'an assassination' and urging the nation to stand against all forms of political violence. 'Those responsible for this will be held accountable,' he said. The suspect, who fled after exchanging gunfire with officers, was reportedly posing as a law enforcement officer. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Authorities say the individual used a vehicle that looked identical to a police SUV and exploited public trust in uniformed personnel. US Attorney General Pam Bondi vowed federal support for the investigation, calling the killings 'horrific' and promising prosecution 'to the fullest extent of the law.' Kochi: HC has directed the chief vigilance officer of the Cochin Devaswom Board (CDB) to maintain constant vigil against the exploitation of devotees through fake websites, Instagram accounts and similar platforms that misuse the names of temples for online pooja bookings, donations and related services. The court observed that the perpetrators behind such fraudulent platforms must be proceeded against in accordance with law by lodging appropriate complaints before the station house officer of the concerned police station.
