I'm calling it: this no-frills Enmore Road joint serves some of Sydney's best dumplings

Time Out21-05-2025

If I could bring dumplings to that deserted, palm-fringed island everyone talks about, I would. Soft, juicy and savoury – and amped up with a dash of soy, black vinegar and chilli oil – they are pretty much the perfect meal. Raining outside? Dumplings. Sunday morning brunch with the fam? Dumplings. Got a near-death hangover? Dumplings. And I reckon you're a fan of these little delights, too – our guide to Sydney's best yum cha is consistently one of our highest-performing features.
It's good news, then, that Sydney is home to many incredible Chinese restaurants serving these hot and plump little parcels. I'm keen on the dumps at The Eight in Haymarket, and have a crush on the ones at Star Capital Seafood Restaurant in Chatswood (and so too does Nagi from RecipeTin Eats). Dan Hong and the team at the forever-pumping Mr Wong serve excellent, art-like dumplings, and you can always count on Shanghai Night, Palace Chinese Restaurant and Emperor's Garden to deliver. I'm not gonna say which one takes the top position (I'd rather not get eaten alive in the comments), but I will say this: if you haven't been to Enmore Road's Chinese Dumpling Master, I really recommend you do.
If the vines on the roof and dangling grapes don't give it away, this brightly lit, no-frills shop has a sibling in Haymarket: Chinese Noodle House (and not, confusingly, Chinese Noodle Restaurant – though some say they were the first to put up grapes on the ceiling). Similar to the OG, they specialise in food from Xinjiang in northwest China, where chef-owner John Sun originates (Sun owns Chinese Dumpling Master with wife Susanna Chen). On the menu, there's hand-pulled noodles, as well as rice and vegetable dishes, but the focus here is on glorious handmade dumplings, which have a slightly thicker casing and succulent fillings. You can opt to get them pan-fried, boiled or steamed, in flavours such as pork and chives, or chicken, onion and coriander, with a half-serving setting you back around $8.80.
I go for a half-serve of both, pan-fried, and they arrive fresh-tasting, with a crisp, caramelised bottom and burn-your-tongue hot. The pork and chives taste as familiar and comforting as a hug from your best mate, and the chicken ones are fragrant with coriander. Slippery, wrinkled pork and prawn siu mai come doused in vivid chilli oil. There are little hunks of sweet prawn meat inside, and they're some of the juiciest ones I've enjoyed in recent memory. (Dim)sim-ply delicious.
A few other things I love about this joint. One, they serve $5 Tsingtaos and $7 glasses of a not-bad cab shiraz, making an excellent case for a pre- or post– Enmore Theatre session. Service is swift. It's BYO. And it's a banging cheap eat – you can get away with spending around $25 per person here and leave full, happy and a little bit boozed. What more does one want?
(Happy to share if I see you on the deserted island, too.)

Emma Raducanu new boyfriend speculation emerges as familiar tennis face spotted

Emma Raducanu new boyfriend speculation emerges as familiar tennis face spotted Emma Raducanu was supported by Benjamin Heynold at Queen's as she prepares for Wimbledon Emma Raducanu and Benjamin Heynold (Image: Emma Raducanu/ Instagram ) Speculation is swirling in the tennis world that Emma Raducanu has a new boyfriend after a familiar face was spotted in her corner at Queen's this week. College tennis star Benjamin Heynold was alongside coach Nick Cavaday and agent Thomas Houchin as Raducanu was knocked out in the quarter-finals of the competition on Friday afternoon. Raducanu, 22, is two years younger than Heynold and has known him for most of her life. ‌ MailOnline now report friends have said their close friendship may have turned romantic in recent times. ‌ Heynold, 24, is a student at the the University of North Carolina and has previously represented Team GB alongside Raducanu, who he has known since she was six-years-old. They played together in competitions across the country as juniors, including at the Royal Albert Hall in 2017. He has since quit the sport to study in America. The rumours come over a year after the tennis star split from boyfriend Carlo Agostinelli, who was the son of a billionaire business tycoon. Article continues below Emma Raducanu with Carlo Agostinelli Raducanu has been the subject of romantic rumours involving Romeo Beckham, Jack Draper and even Carlos Alcaraz over the past year after previously revealing she hasn't had many relationships because of her strict upbringing. "My parents were very much against [boyfriends] as it interfered with training,' she told The Times. ‌ "When I was younger I wasn't even allowed to hang out with my girl friends. "A lot of the time I was very resentful. "But it made me very confident and comfortable in my own company, which is also a big strength." ‌ Emma Raducanu of Great Britain (Image:for LTA ) Meanwhile, Raducanu insisted she is not 'overly concerned' about her ongoing back issues but conceded she may need to re-think her next steps after bowing out in the Queen's quarter-finals with a 6-2 6-4 loss to Chinese first-seed Qinwen Zheng. Raducanu, who officially supplants Katie Boulter as British number one on Monday, planned for next week's Berlin Open to be the next step on her quest to secure seeding at Wimbledon, but required an off-court medical time out before the second set. Article continues below The 22-year-old was the last Briton standing in this new WTA 500 event, the first time women's tennis had been played at Queen's since 1973. 'I'm not overly concerned that it's something serious, but I know it's something that's very annoying and needs proper and careful management,' said Raducanu, who revealed she had been taped up for stability and took some painkillers.

I stayed at the English beach holiday park following its £15million makeover with a massive waterpark and soft-play

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) 'WOW, this is the best house ever,' scream my two kids. While their reactions slightly rile me — having just decorated both their bedrooms back home — I can see where they are coming from. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 4 Enjoying a stroll along the beach Credit: Supplied 4 We had buckets of fun at Splash Waterpark, only 50 yards or so from our lodge Credit: Supplied For starters, our eight-man Platinum lodge at Unity Beach in Somerset has a hot tub — and it comes complete with undisturbed views of Brean's windswept coastline and a clear sky at night. Everything inside is sleek and stylish, with a statement electric fireplace in the centre and Scandi-style wooden furniture that makes the place look more like a fancy prize draw house than a holiday park lodge. I was staying there with my partner Bianca and two little ones, Frank, six, and Pearl, four. The fun-packed resort has recently been redeveloped as part of a £15million 'Comes Alive in 25' campaign and was reopened only last month, backed by The One Show host Alex Jones. The presenter said: 'There's a misconception that British seaside parks are outdated. Unity Beach proves that's no longer true.' I can't argue with her. Even though there was so much to do at the 240-acre resort, we could easily have spent a few hours relaxing in our new home. As well as a decking area with hot tub, it included a spacious lounge with a giant TV (as well as televisions in every bedroom), a fully-fitted kitchen, two double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, plus two more twin rooms. The lodges are really close to most of the activities and restaurants, too. These include the new Wonky Donkey, which serves brekkie and pub grub such as scampi, lasagne and burgers, and the Sports Cafe, where kids can play arcade favourites and cutting-edge VR games in between bites of pizza, while adults watch live sport on the large screens. Top Seashore Holiday Parks for Family Fun There's also the revamped Pavilion Theatre, where guests can tuck into wings, loaded fries and kid-sized lighter bites all while watching live game shows and tribute acts. And with a proper kitchen in our lodge, we could always mix it up with a takeaway from the on-site chippy or Chinese. Then there's the retro-decorated RJ's, which offers American diner-style classics such as pizzas, wings and build-your-own burgers. And with a proper kitchen in our lodge, we could always mix it up with a takeaway from the on-site chippy or Chinese. When we weren't sampling all the food, we had buckets of fun at Splash Waterpark, only 50 yards or so from our lodge. It costs extra to visit (from £3.25pp) but it's well worth it, with a kids' pool, play areas and plenty of slides. Ninja Zone The pre-booked 90-minute pool sessions were just enough for our two, although bigger kids, who can go on all the flumes, might want to stay longer. Despite tearing around the pool for an hour and a half, Frank and Pearl couldn't wait to go straight to Brean Play indoor soft play afterwards. If one thing's guaranteed to tire them out, it's soft play. The area includes the Ninja Zone, with a challenging obstacle course for older kids, and a state-of-the-art ball court with an interactive screen that lets kids play all manner of games. If that's not enough, there's also the Brean Theme Park, which was again just yards from our lodge. And I could see why our kids were so desperate to go. The park has a great mix of rides for kids of all ages as well as adults. Thankfully, Bianca was happy to take Frank on the scarier rollercoasters while I made sure Pearl was OK on the carousels. You'll have to pay extra for entry, but Unity guests get discounted wristbands meaning it won't end up costing a fortune. Unity is not all about the kids, though. Adults can have their fair share of fun at the 18-hole golf course. Whatever you end up doing, there's a good chance you'll finish your day in the hot tub, soaking up all the memories. Or they might want to try their hand at new must-play sport padel, with Unity being home to Somerset's only two courts. We barely had enough time to try everything within the resort, let alone to venture out. 4 The fun-packed resort has recently been redeveloped as part of a £15million 'Comes Alive in 25' campaign backed by The One Show host Alex Jones, above at Unity Beach Credit: Supplied 4 The nearby Bream Theme Park was is winner for kids Credit: Supplied But for those keen to explore the area, Weston-super-Mare, Burnham pier and Cheddar Gorge are all nearby. However, try to make it back in time for the evening entertainment, which includes discos and parties for the little ones, games shows and entertainers. Whatever you end up doing, there's a good chance you'll finish your day in the hot tub, soaking up all the memories. And you'll certainly be grateful for those comfy beds, too.

Freaky 4ft Labubu doll sells for more than £110,000 at auction

The Labubu craze has seen recent fights in POP MART stores; 235,984 mentions online; celebs like Dua Lipa, Rihanna and LISA sporting the bag-charm; and now a million yuan sale for a life-sized doll Labubu-mania has reached a new peak as a human-sized Labubu was recently sold at auction for a huge sum of 1.08 million yuan, equivalent to just over £110,000. Reported by a Chinese auction house, the 4ft4inches doll was bought at the Yongle International Auction in Beijing. At 131 cm, the life-size figuring was said to be the most expensive toy in the world by the auctioneer, reports the BBC. ‌ The monster dolls -turned-bag-charms were made by Kasing Lung, an artist from Hong Kong, and have seen a massive incline in popularity and sales, loved by children, Gen Z and celebrities alike. ‌ Sold mainly in Pop Mart for just over £5, the recent auction - which took place this week - saw that price multiplied by thousands. The auction included 48 items for sale and hosted 200 potential buyers, in total raining an enormous 3.37 million yuan - that's £349,000. The worldwide craze has seen fights break out between customers and staff, 'never-ending' queues and now a removal of the toys from Pop Mart shelves as they try to manage the insatiable demand for all things Labubu. Pop Mart informed fans on their official Instagram on May 19, saying: "Due to the increasing demand for our beloved Labubus, we've seen a significant rise in customer turnout on restock days – with long queues forming outside our stores and Roboshops. To ensure the safety and comfort of everyone, we will temporarily pause all in-store and roboshop sales of THE MONSTERS plush toys until further notice". Help us improve our content by completing the survey below. We'd love to hear from you! ‌ Celebrity sightings with the 'love-or-hate' bag charms include Rihanna, Dua Lipa and LISA. David Beckham has also tried the viral trend by posting a snap on Instagram showing a Labubu clipped to his bag. Their popularity appears to come down to one thing: not knowing which one you're going to get. The illusive mystery boxes are sold as "blind boxes" that excite buyers who wonder which one they are fated to get. The Labubu reveal has massively given rise to Pop Mart's success where the business' more than doubled their revenue for 2024, 13 billion yuan, £1,335,100,000. The stores have now opened in five additional countries such as Italy and Spain as of last year and have resulted in social research that found an increase of 273 percent of daily mentions since May 30. The research, done by Sprout Social also discovered that the viral dolls had accumulated a total of 235,984 mentions across social apps, proving they are here to stay.
