(Reuters) -Toyota's double world champion Kalle Rovanpera continued his domination of the Canary Islands rally on Saturday with a 10th stage win out of 10 to extend his overall lead to 38.1 seconds.
The Finn had started the penultimate day 26.8 seconds clear of teammate Sebastien Ogier after winning all six stages on Friday and he won the next four with three more to come in the evening.
Eight times world champion Ogier kept up over the day's first two stages on abrasive asphalt but Rovanpera gained 8.4 seconds on the third.
"On these kinds of roads, it's not about pushing, it's about having the flow," said Rovanperä. "It seems that everything is working well."
Toyota continued to fill the top five places with championship leader Elfyn Evans third, but more than a minute off Rovanpera's pace, and ahead of Sami Pajari and Takamoto Katsuta.
Hyundai filled the next three placings with Adrien Fourmaux moving up to sixth, ahead of defending world champion Thierry Neuville and Ott Tanak.
"We're trying really to put the car as far as we can to make it work well, but I'm on the limit of what I can do," said Neuville.
The rally on the Spanish islands off the coast of Morocco is making its world championship debut as round four of the season and finishes on Sunday.

Mbappe ‘not bitter' about PSG's Champions League triumph

FRANCE captain Kylian Mbappe said he is not bitter Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League the year after his departure for Real Madrid. 'I didn't leave too soon; my story with PSG was over. I am not bitter; I had reached the end of the road,' Mbappe said in a press conference ahead of Sunday's Nations League third place match against Germany in Stuttgart. PSG crushed Inter Milan 5-0 to win the Champions League in Munich last Saturday, the first time the club has won the competition. 'I tried everything, and it was destiny that meant it had to happen without me,' said Mbappe. 'PSG winning the Champions League without me doesn't affect me. I was happy, I think they deserved it. 'They've had so many years where they struggled. I've been there too; I've played in every Champions League stage in Paris except for the victory. 'They're the best team in Europe. 'I don't remember seeing a team win 5-0 in a major final.' Mbappe has repeated his desire to win Europe's biggest club competition, but the closest the Paris-born forward got with his boyhood club was losing the final in 2020 to Bayern Munich. The 26-year-old moved to Madrid in the summer of 2024 hoping to lift the Champions League, but the Spanish giants crashed out in the quarterfinals of the competition to Arsenal in April.

Series leader Marc Marquez takes Aragon MotoGP pole

ALCAÑIZ, Spain: World championship leader Marc Marquez will start from pole in Sunday's Aragon MotoGP as he bids to return to winning form in his quest for a seventh world title. The 32-year-old Spanish Ducati rider edged out his younger brother Alex Marquez (Ducati-Gresini) with Italy's Marco Morbidelli (Ducati-VR46) third fastest. Marc Marquez will also start from pole for the sprint race later Saturday on a track where he has won the MotoGP six times in 10 appearances. "It was not the best lap of my life," said Marc Marquez. "I attacked quite a lot and the bike moved around quite a lot, but I am delighted to be starting in pole. "My rivals are getting closer so the races will be interesting." Marquez is seeking to end a three-race losing run, having got off to a blistering start with three wins in the first four MotoGPs. Marc leads Alex by 24 points going into the sprint race, Marc's Ducati team-mate and two-time champion Francesco Bagnaia, who starts fourth on the grid, is third, 72 points adrift.
