Newspaper cuts ties with reporter over 'exclusive interview' with Clint Eastwood after the director dismisses it as 'entirely phoney'

Daily Mail3 days ago

An Austrian daily has cut ties with a reporter over an alleged exclusive interview with Clint Eastwood after the legendary director called the piece 'entirely phoney'.
The German-language Kurier newspaper came under fire after the Q&A - published on Friday to mark Eastwood 's 95th birthday - turned out to be comprised of repackaged old comments.
In the article, which was picked up widely by American media over the weekend, Eastwood criticises a lack of fresh ideas in the current film industry as 'we live in an era of remakes and franchises'.
'I long for the good old days when screenwriters wrote films like 'Casablanca' in small bungalows on the studio lot. When everyone had a new idea,' he was quoted as saying.
'My philosophy is, do something new or stay at home,' it adds.
In a statement to Deadline magazine published Monday, Eastwood said 'I thought I would set the record straight'.
'I can confirm I've turned 95. I can also confirm that I never gave an interview to an Austrian publication called Kurier, or any other writer in recent weeks, and that the interview is entirely phony,' he added.
On Tuesday evening, the editorial team of the Vienna-based Kurier said its freelancer Elisabeth Sereda had compiled the interview by citing from 'a total of 18' round table conversations with Eastwood.
But since the article was published as an interview and not as a profile, the daily said it would cut ties with the author.
'Even though no quotes have been fabricated, the interviews are documented and the allegations of falsification can be refuted, we will not be working with the author in the future because transparency and our strict editorial standards are paramount to us,' Kurier said in a statement published on its website.
The newspaper had recently published interviews by Sereda with celebrities such as Jude Law and Elton John.
Eastwood 's career has spanned decades, with his first movie role in Revenge of the Creature in 1955.
He starred in iconic projects over the years, including Man with No Name, For A Few Dollars More, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Dirty Harry, High Plains Drifter, The Outlaw Josey Wales and Escape From Alcatraz - just to name a few.
Eastwood has also served as a director in a number of projects including Pale Rider, Unforgiven, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jima, Gran Torino and Flags of Our Fathers and more.
He also starred in Pale Rider, Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino in addition to directing.
His most recent project, Juror No. 2 - which he directed - was released in November 2024 and starred Nicholas Hoult. J.K. Simmons and Toni Collete.
The last film he appeared in (which he also directed) was Cry Macho in 2021.
Scott said he was 'doing good' and said that 'he's a survivor, a trouper,' explaining that his father doesn't complain.
'He was born coming out of the Great Depression, and then he was young during World War II. He saw a lot of struggle.'
Last year, Scott told People some advice his dad told him in regards to his acting career.
'Follow your gut,' he said.
Eastwood's son Scott Eastwood spoke out about his father recently.
The 39-year-old actor - who is the spitting image of his father - was asked by People how his father was doing nearly a year after Eastwood's girlfriend of 10 years, Christina Sandera died at age 61 following a heart attack.

Why fans think Mariah Carey isn't singing on her comeback track... amid claims she's been replaced with AI

Mariah Carey has been caught up in another wild conspiracy theory just weeks after fans believed that she'd been replaced by AI. The diva, 56, returned to the music scene with a new rap single this week called Type Dangerous, but a lot of fans have pointed out that Mimi sounds different compared to before. 'Is it just me or it doesn't sound like Mariah at all,' asked one confused listener. 'Is it just me or does Mariah's new song sound like a JLo song? Also… she sounds nothing like herself, the overproduction is weird. Doesn't sound like her even a little,' wrote another. A third wrote, 'Now who is singing bc that doesn't sound like Mariah.' Another added, 'What's strange about this new Mariah song is I saw her live a year and a half ago and she can very much still sing live. Why on earth did they add whatever this is on top of her voice? It doesn't even sound like her.' However, other fans argued that the talented vocalist was just using a different style of singing. 'Just listened to Mariah Carey's new song. She used her voice in a different way than we're used to, but the song is nice! I like it,' wrote one. Another explained, 'She's just using her lower voice and experimenting. She's always doing something new and original.' It comes after Mariah left some of her Australian fans confused after appearing disinterested as she sat down for an interview with The Project. The pop diva gave a series of short answers, sometimes uttering single word reposes in a bored monotone while speaking with host Georgie Tunny. When asked how she handles criticism, Mariah replied simply: 'By not coping is what I do.' After a pause she continued: 'I mean, just don't pay attention to it, you know? And everybody else goes through it, so... whatever.' The 56-year-old was also asked what she'd like on her tour rider for her upcoming Aussie tour, to which Mariah oddly replied in deadpan: 'A kangaroo.' Mariah was likewise asked about her notorious love of good lighting, to which she said dismissively: 'Good lighting is everything. I don't know why people even have rooms that are poorly lit.' The interview plodded along at painful length, with some viewers branding it 'bizarre' and some even asking if the clip was AI. 'Was that an AI version of MC? That poor lady. I feel sorry for you. You did your best. She hasn't been called a DIVA for no reason... Maybe in the shadow sooner then she likes' wrote one person. 'Sure she wasn't an AI version of Carey? Weird smile, no eye contact. Bot for sure' someone else asked. 'That was the most bizarre interview!!' yet another chimed in. Despite the controversy, Mariah is currently preparing to release her 16th studio album. According to Forbes, the songstress, who has 19 number one singles, is aiming to get her 20th chart topper with Type Dangerous. 'She's fighting to stay contemporary,' her longtime producer LA Reid told the publication. Mariah left her label Epic Records, who released her last album Caution, to partner with new music company Gamma for her comeback.

Romeo Beckham looks glum at French Open after splitting from girlfriend

Romeo Beckham was snapped looking rather blue at the French Open, days after his split from his girlfriend was revealed. Romeo, 22, was one of the celebrities in attendance a the semi-final match between Italy's Lorenzo Musetti and Spain's Carlos Alcaraz at Roland Garros, in Paris. Dressed in a navy suit and black t-shirt, the Romeo was dressed in dark colours with simple jewellery. The second eldest of the Beckham children looked blank and somewhat downcast in some of the images taken at the game. This appearance took place just days after it was announced that he and his girlfriend, Kim Turnball, had split after seven months together Friends said things 'fizzled out' between Romeo, 22, and Kim, 26, in what's been an 'amicable' split that has 'nothing to do' with the Beckham rift after her name was drawn into the drama. A friend of the pair told the Mail: 'Romeo and Kim are both young and they had a lovely time together but at that age things don't always last forever and they decided to split up. 'They have been friendly since and have even been at the same venues. It's a huge shame, particularly as David and Victoria really adored her and thought she made Romeo happy but it wasn't to be. 'It happened a couple of weeks ago and relations have remained friendly between them.' The split took place amid reports of a family feud between the Beckham family and eldest son Brooklyn Beckham, 26. It was rumoured that Brooklyn dated Kim before his Romeo in 2016, causing a rift between the pair. More Trending However, Cruz Beckham, 20, weighed in on the rumours in a now-deleted social media comment, in which he clarified: 'Brooklyn and Kim never dated.' TMZ claimed that Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, questioned if Kim had the right intentions in dating Romeo. They also added that sources informed them that going forward, Brooklyn and his wife will no longer attend family events where Kim will be present. Got a story? Diddy accused of raping Austrian TV reporter when she tried to book an interview

Sean 'Diddy' Combs has been accused of raping TV reporter Kathi Steininger as she tried to secure an interview The 55-year-old music artist is facing charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution, to which Combs has denied all allegations against him. His trial began last month in New York, with his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, and Kid Cudi among those who have taken the stand so far. Austrian present Steininger has claimed in an interview that she was raped by the rapper when she was 19 years old. She organised an on-camera interview with Combs in March 2000 following his show at Vienna's Libro Music Hall, she told PULS 24, claiming that during the chat she was separated from her cameraman and handed a drink by Combs. She alleges the drink was drugged, and that her next memory from the event was being in the back of a tour bus being raped by the musician. 'There was 100 percent something in it,' she told the publication. 'I would never have gone to bed with that man.' Steininger claims she could not move or cry for help, and after the alleged attack, she felt too 'ashamed' to tell anyone about her experience. She also said that the attack left her unable to work and with post-traumatic stress disorder. 'You should hold those who did this to you accountable. Others should be ashamed,' she said. She alleges she was going to take the stand as part of his ongoing trial, but that, as her claims are outside of the statute of limitations and they were not in the US, she could not. The publication reports that a spokeswoman for the Vienna public prosecutor's office said whether there will be investigations against Combs in Austria will be dependent on the outcome of his current trial in the US. It comes after Combs was threatened with being removed from the courtroom yesterday after he 'vigorously nodded' at jurors. Multiple outlets reported that he has been threatened with expulsion from the court for seemingly attempting to 'interact' with jurors. Speaking to Comb's attorney, the judge Subramanian said in court: 'Mr Agnifilo, your client was looking at jurors and nodding vigorously. 'This can't continue, or I will give a limiting instruction you won't like, or other measures, including barring your client from the courtroom. Do you understand?' More Trending Defence attorney Marc Agnifilo told the judge that it would not happen again. The judge then added: 'There should be no efforts whatsoever to have an interaction with this jury.' This comes just days after a screaming woman was removed from the trial after an explicit outburst. Metro has contacted representatives for Sean Combs for comment . Got a story?
