
Egyptian food exports increased $10Bn in 2024: Chamber of Food Industries
Cairo – March 19, 2025: The Chamber of Food Industries has reported that Egypt's food sector exports surpassed $10 billion in 2024, marking a 21 percent year-over-year increase, according to Chairperson Ashraf El Gazayerli at the Chamber's 2024 General Assembly meeting, where he discussed the sector's international market performance.
Executive Director Maysa Hamza provided an overview of the Chamber's recent activities, focusing on institutional development efforts such as improving governance, advancing digital transformation, and automating processes. These initiatives aim to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of the sector.
The Chamber's objectives for 2024 included addressing challenges faced by food manufacturers, representing their interests to relevant stakeholders, and providing industry data to support decision-making. Additionally, efforts continue to strengthen sector competitiveness through consulting services, training programs, and compliance support.
The Chamber continues to prioritize food safety. In 2024, it facilitated 46 training programs, conducted 85 factory visits, and organized multiple seminars in collaboration with the National Food Safety Authority. These efforts provided training for nearly 3,800 industry professionals across various regions, with support from eight donor-funded projects.
On regulatory matters, the Chamber has contributed to approving 44 new industry standards in cooperation with the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality. It is also involved in updating regulations, including amendments to the National Food Safety Authority's decree No. 4 of 2020, aligning it with international food safety guidelines.
The Chamber has been active in international engagements, taking part in eight missions in 2024, including conferences, research forums, and trade exhibitions in Malaysia, Russia, France, the UAE, Oman, India, and Germany. These activities are part of efforts to support industry players in accessing new markets and staying informed about global trends.

Egypt's transformative, extractive industries index rises 3.9% in March 2025: CAPMAS
CAPMAS headquarters - file CAIRO - 24 May 2025: The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced a 3.9% increase in the transformative and extractive industries production index, reaching 120.47 in March 2025 compared to 115.93 in February 2025. The index is based on updated methodology using base year 2012/2013, in line with the ISIC Rev.4 industrial classification and monthly producer price indices, adopted since January 2020. Food products manufacturing index rose to 160.02 in March from 145.24 in February at a 10.18% increase.

Egypt's food exports surge 21% in 2024
Egypt's Food Export Council reported that food industry exports reached approximately $6.1bn in 2024, marking a 21% increase from 2023. The council said that frozen vegetables and fruits contributed $960m, representing 16% of the sector's total exports. The council participated in a meeting organized by the Frozen and Processed Fruits and Vegetables Division of the Chamber of Food Industries on Wednesday at the Federation of Egyptian Industries headquarters. The meeting was held as part of efforts to enhance the competitiveness of exports in this vital sector and to address key challenges facing it. Frozen strawberries topped the sector's exports, generating $383m and accounting for 40% of total frozen vegetable and fruit exports. They were followed by frozen vegetables at $262m and frozen potatoes at $225m. The council noted that 739 companies are active in exporting from this sector, with 116 companies surpassing $1m in exports and 25 companies exceeding $10m. The presentation also covered the key global import markets, with the top 15 destinations accounting for around 75% of the sector's total exports. It further addressed the main challenges facing exporters, including high transportation costs, strict quality requirements, and the need to better leverage international trade agreements. The council added that Saudi Arabia was the largest importer of processed food from Egypt in 2024, accounting for 8% of the sector's total exports with a value of approximately $491m, compared to $400m in 2023 — a growth rate of 23%. It also noted an increase in the number of Egyptian food industry exporters to the Saudi market, reaching 538 companies, 73 of which exceeded $1m in exports, collectively accounting for $429m— representing 87% of total exports to the Kingdom. This meeting is part of the Council's ongoing efforts to enhance the performance of food industry exports and provide technical and informational support to exporters, aiming to boost the competitiveness of Egyptian products in global markets.
