No ban on vape sales yet, says Kedah MB

Kedah housing, local government and health committee chairman Mansor Zakaria had been asked to present a proposal on vape sale controls at the next exco meeting.
PETALING JAYA : The Kedah government is looking to implement controls on the sale of vape or electronic cigarettes in the state before it decides on a statewide ban, says menteri besar Sanusi Nor.
He said the state government is in no hurry to ban vape sales as its local authorities have already issued licences for their sale.
'Terengganu began the process of banning vape sales in 2016. That process has taken almost 10 years (to materialise).
'Kedah's local authorities have previously issued licences for vape shop premises, so (the businesses) have the right to operate.
'We cannot make a decision today (to ban vape sales), or (the businesses) may sue us,' Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying at a press conference today.
The Terengganu government will no longer issue new business licences for vape sales from Aug 1, following a recent call by deputy inspector-general of police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay for states to follow in the footsteps of Johor, which has banned vape sales since 2016.
Sanusi said Kedah housing, local government and health committee chairman Mansor Zakaria has been asked to present a proposal on vape sale controls at the next exco meeting.
He said the controls would be enforced until the businesses' licences expire, after which the state government would decide whether to ban vape sales.
Mansor said the controls might include prohibiting vape advertisements, as well as their sale to those under 18 years old.
'Vape shops currently have billboards advertising vapes at their premises, but that will no longer be allowed. The products must also be sold in enclosed premises such as convenience stores,' he said.

Private hospitals call for delay to 6% SST for non-Malaysians

Several associations raised concerns about the potential impact on service accessibility, pricing transparency, and operational preparedness, especially for sectors like healthcare. (Gambar Envato Elements) PETALING JAYA : Private hospitals are urging the finance ministry to postpone the implementation of the 6% sales and service tax (SST) on private healthcare services for non-Malaysians, set to take effect on July 1. In a statement, the Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) raised concerns over the implementation time frame, saying 'private hospitals will need sufficient lead time to adjust administrative systems, billing processes, and compliance procedures'. APHM also said it had sent a written request to the finance ministry today for a 'more practical timeline'. 'This is to allow for a smoother transition, minimise disruption to patient services, and help ensure full compliance with the new requirements.' APHM also said it had sought further clarification on the policy's application, including its impact on professional fees, its treatment of foreigners residing in Malaysia, and other related implementation matters. The finance ministry announced two days ago that the service tax would be expanded to include rent, lease, construction, financial services, private healthcare, and education, with hopes that it would help generate RM51.7 billion in SST revenue next year. Under this policy, private hospitals will charge a 6% SST on healthcare services provided to foreign nationals. Since the announcement, several associations have raised concerns about the potential impact on service accessibility, pricing transparency, and operational preparedness, especially for sectors like healthcare and education which serve many non-Malaysians including foreign workers, expatriates, and international students.

Crayon Launches Game-Changing Tech Distribution Model in APAC, Backed by Major Expertise Investment

Distribution Done Differently: Prioritising Long-Term Value Over Transactions SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - Media OutReach Newswire - 11 June 2025 - Crayon, APAC's only fully integrated technology service provider and distributor, is shaking up IT distribution across Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia with a bold new strategy focused on delivering long-term value - not just quick licensing sales. Amidst rising tech complexities, IT leaders are demanding more, with 87% of SMBs in the region planning to increase spending on third-party IT expertise, according to a recent Forrester report commissioned by Crayon. To meet this demand, Crayon has invested in a smarter, support-led distribution model designed to turn software resellers into trusted strategic partners. By bringing together enablement programs, revenue-generating services, deep technical expertise, and scalable support, Crayon has built a model that empowers partners to move faster, sell smarter, and grow sustainably. This approach is reinforced by a strong focus on cost optimisation, helping partners and customers reduce waste and make smarter IT investments. Crayon also brings a practical, ethical lens to AI adoption, and support with cloud migration, ensuring meaningful outcomes are delivered rather than fleeting hype. "We've invested heavily in building our expertise, so our partners don't have to," said Rhonda Robati, Executive Vice President for Crayon APAC. "Our goal is to take the complexity out of modern IT. Whether it's cloud architecture, cybersecurity, cost optimisation or AI adoption - our team is here to help partners move from selling software to delivering strategic value." In a market often overwhelmed by new tech, uncertainty and overselling, a human-first approach, based on trust has never been more imperative for IT leaders. Warren Nolan, SVP Channel at Crayon, adds, "Our partners want more than margins; they want purpose and clarity. We're cutting through the noise to help them deliver real business impact." At the heart of Crayon's approach is the Enablement Hub, a dedicated platform that equips partners with timely market insights, on-demand resources, and data-driven research. This hub plays a pivotal role in enhancing partner capabilities across key areas such as cloud, cybersecurity, cost optimisation, and AI. In addition, events like Crayon Connect, which deliver valuable market insights and research, further empower partners to stay ahead of the competition, arming them with the knowledge and tools needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving landscape. "What sets Crayon apart is the genuine partnership approach. They don't just sell product - they understand our business, connect us with the right partners, and ensure we're having meaningful, value-driven conversations. With Crayon, we're not just another client - we're supported by a team that listens, understands, and delivers specialist expertise whenever we need it. That kind of relationship is rare in this industry," said Tristan Ellet, Founder of Bigfish Technology. Crayon's upgraded Cloud-iQ platform consolidates all global partner operations into a single, unified solution, setting a new standard for partner support. By integrating billing, provisioning, reporting, and cost control into one seamless interface, and providing automated provisioning, powerful commercial insights, and multi-market scalability, Cloud-iQ equips partners with the visibility and automation they need to optimise operations and scale efficiently across APAC markets. This is complemented by an expanding suite of services, including Essential 8 cybersecurity assessments, cloud security checks, and a soon-to-launch AI-driven tool - aimed at helping partners unlock new revenue streams without the heavy lift. Crayon also provides expert support through its Technical Advisory Group (TAG) and a team of over 100 in-house specialists, offering direct access to strategic and technical guidance in cloud, security, productivity, ERP and data and AI. While it's common for support services to shrink to keep costs low, Crayon sees the value in providing partners with that extra level of expertise and account management. "In our 30-plus years delivering advanced IT and communications solutions, we've worked with many distribution models - but Crayon's approach stands out. Their Enablement Hub and expert advisory services go beyond resources; they provide strategic clarity in a crowded market. Whether it's connecting us with the right partners, offering guidance on marketplace and marketing, or helping unpack AI opportunities, Crayon delivers great people, insights and tools that translate technology into real business outcomes. It's a genuine partnership that's made a measurable impact on how we engage with our partners and clients," said Nick Milan, Founder and Managing Director of Initiatives like the ISV Innovation Hub, Tech For Good, and Partner Connections, also provide opportunities for more collaboration, driving innovation and shared success. "As vendor programs evolve and expectations rise, this isn't a disruption - it's a reset," says Rhonda Robati. "We're not chasing scale for scale's sake. We're building something better: a model rooted in substance, trust, and long-term outcomes. The next era of distribution won't be led by those shouting the loudest - it'll be shaped by those who lead with insight, enable, and deliver real results to win together." ‘Malaysia is open for innovation': Gobind woos UK tech investors in London

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 — Malaysia has called on the United Kingdom (UK) technology businesses to join hands in building a dynamic digital future in the country. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, speaking at the UK-Malaysia Digital Gateway Forum in London, also positioned Malaysia as a regional powerhouse for innovation, digital investment, and sustainable technology development. 'Malaysia is open for innovation. Our vision is anchored on three critical enablers—world-class infrastructure, trusted data governance, and institutional trust. 'These are the foundations that make Malaysia a prime destination for high-value tech investment in the region,' he said in a statement today. Gobind is currently in London for London Tech Week, which also serves as a valuable platform for Malaysia to gain insights and forge partnerships in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) governance, smart cities, and digital sustainability. At the forum, he reiterated Malaysia's commitment to becoming a thriving, future-ready digital hub that welcomes international partnerships and is poised for high-value, sustainable growth. He cited Malaysia's strong digital growth trajectory, highlighting robust investment figures from the first quarter of 2025. 'During this period, 107 new companies were approved under the Malaysia Digital framework, representing a combined investment value of RM13.1 billion (GBP2.3 billion). 'These investments are expected to generate 4,199 new jobs over the next five years,' he said. Gobind also extended an invitation to UK partners to participate in Malaysia's upcoming flagship events, including the Asean Malaysia AI Summit scheduled for August 2025, and the Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur, to be held in September 2025. — Bernama
