First responders urge safety amid road work on I-75 road in northern Oakland County
It has been frustrating for drivers in Oakland County since the Michigan Department of Transportation began its Interstate 75 North Oakland Project from Grand Blanc to Independence Township.
Concerns have started to grow about more than just the traffic from the construction, and also the safety hazard it's creating, especially after multiple recent serious collisions on that stretch of road, including one where a man died Tuesday night.
"Last night, we had a driver who got out of their vehicle and stood in the left lane of I-75 to assess the damage. Unfortunately, that driver was struck and killed by another that did not see them," said Michigan State Police 1st Lieutenant Mike Shaw.
Tuesday's tragedy sparked a group of first responders in the area to let the public know they want drivers to slow down or avoid I-75 altogether.
"The problem is when you're on that road, there's nowhere to go, so traditionally when you get in an accident or have a problem on the highway, you have the ability to get off the shoulder of the road and get to somewhat of a safe position," said Springfield Township Fire Chief Matt Covey.
Covey sent out a public safety alert Wednesday morning alongside the Fire Chiefs of Groveland Township and the North Oakland County Fire Authority because they say emergency response teams are now experiencing serious delays due to blocked shoulders, gridlocked traffic, and limited rerouting options.
"So you know if you're having a heart attack or something traumatic, and it takes us 25-30 minutes to get to you, that's part of your golden hour and opportunity of survivability." Said Covey.
He also says that he's recommending his own family take alternate routes—and he's now strongly recommending you do the same. But if you do take that stretch of I-75, use extreme caution and stay in your vehicle if you're in a crash.

Bentley Has You Covered On Tariffs—For Now
If you're on the fence about which Bentley to park in your garage, it's time to jump: Bentley will honor pre-tariff pricing through the end of the month. Beyond that, what a new Bentley will cost you is anyone's guess. As the U.S. tariff situation changes with the wind, Bentley has said they'll reassess pricing in July. Bentley will continue to build and fulfill orders from US customers beyond the June window, but will halt dealer inventory moving into the country until July, keeping the vehicles in the U.K., until the situation becomes clearer. For further clarification, Motor1 spoke with Bentley Chief Communications Officer Wayne Bruce during a first drive event for forthcoming models, which are under embargo. "Even now, at least until the end of June, you walk into a Bentley retailer, you order a Bentley, even if you configure a Bentley, it will be at the pre-tariff price," Bruce told Motor1. "Obviously, there are some [Bentley cars] on the ground [at pre-tariff prices] because [they were] imported before the tariffs. What we've also done currently though, is stop any retailer stock being shipped to the US until we get greater clarification on the new deal." 2026 Bentley Bentayga Speed Photo by: Bentley That means shoppers who want to walk into a Bentley showroom and drive out with a car will do so with strained inventory in the immediate future. The message from Bentley is clear: If you want a Bentley, this is the time to order, as the future's uncertain and further tariffs—or adjustments to current tariffs in place—could add costs for the customer. In response to the message, Bentley dealerships have received an influx of orders, Bruce said. "The dealers are very very happy right now." Beyond the end of June, however, we'll see if that holds. Andrew Yang reaches out to Musk to collaborate on new political party
Former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang said he's reached out to Elon Musk in hopes of collaborating on the creation of a new political party, according to a Saturday interview with Politico Magazine. Yang, along with mutual friends, believes the Tesla CEO has what it takes to form a new faction that propels America's strongest leaders. When asked if Musk has responded to his inquiry, Yang told the outlet 'Not yet, but I assume he's been very busy.' 'We have been of the opinion that America needed a new political party for a number of years, and so waiting another 24 hours is nothing,' he added. Musk's push for a new political caucus emerged from his public feud with President Trump over the 'big, beautiful bill.' The tech giant strongly opposed the national debt increase after months of working with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to cut federal spending. Yang, the founder of 'The Forward Party,' said it's political outsiders like Musk who consider non-traditional approaches to the country's problems. 'I want to work with people that recognize that America's political system has gone from dysfunctional to polarizing to even worse. And at this point, the fastest growing political movement in the United States is independents,' Yang said. 'They feel like neither party represents them, and the two-party system is not delivering what they want to see,' he continued. Many people have recently left the Democratic party, including former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who announced she became an independent after seeing political polarization throughout the campaign trail. 'If you look at Musk's politics over the last number of years, he waited in line to meet Barack Obama, he endorsed me in a Democratic cycle, and even earlier in this cycle — 2024 — he was looking for an alternative to Trump,' Yang said. 'There are a number of things that I think Elon shares in common with a lot of other folks I talk to who want to see some kind of middle ground or balance. The problem is: In our two-party system, you get whipsawed either one direction or the other,' he continued. Last year, Musk was a major donor for Republicans but has supported a wide array of candidates like Yang in the past. Now that he's severed ties with the GOP, political hopefuls have been looking to capitalize on the billionaire's powerful funding reserve for future campaigns. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. ‘This Should Be Illegal': Customer Gets Approved for 2024 Jeep Wrangler. Then An Expert Exposes the Reality of Financing
Some people buy a house. Others, apparently, buy a Jeep Wrangler with a seven-year loan and enough interest to make an accountant run screaming for the hills. A TikTok clip from the descriptively named creator I'm Just A Finance Guy (@imtheautofinanceguy) shows how outrageous financing deals can get these days, especially for those with bad credit scores. The video, which has been watched more than 290,000 times, zooms-in on the paperwork of a Truth in Lending Disclosure for a 2024 Jeep Wrangler that might just be the most expensive base model in recent memory. The financing terms feel more like a cautionary tale than a dealership win: Loan amount: $74,599 Finance charge (interest): $56,931.56 APR: 17.69 percent Term: 84 months (that's 7 years) Monthly payment: $1,565.84 Odometer reading: 860 miles The paperwork shows a total repayment of $131,530.56, or the cost of a house in small-town Ohio, all for a Jeep with less than 1,000 miles on the odometer. If that's not gruesome enough, let's break it down further: $1,565.84/month × 84 months = $131,530.56. That's over $56,000 in interest paid over the life of the loan. At 17.69% APR, the buyer ends up shelling out nearly double the Jeep's sticker price by the time it's paid off. You could make the same payments on a 15-year mortgage in parts of the country. According to Zillow, the median home price in Toledo, Ohio is just under $130,000 . But There's One Big Catch 2026 Jeep Compass Unveiled: Hybrid or EV With Up to 375 HP While it's tempting to treat this loan as an outlier, it's more of a warning sign. In 2025, the average APR for a new car loan in the U.S. sits between 7 and 9 percent, depending on the borrower's credit score. A 17.69-percent rate suggests a borrower in a deep subprime category or someone who secured financing through a 'Buy Here, Pay Here' dealer known for predatory terms. And then there's the matter of the loan amount itself. A base model 2024 Jeep Wrangler typically starts around $35,000. Higher trims like the Rubicon can edge toward the $55,000 range with options. So, How Do We Get to Nearly $75,000? There are a few possibilities. The dealer may have loaded the vehicle with costly add-ons like extended warranties, off-road packages, or appearance upgrades that look good on paper and pad profit margins. It's also possible the buyer traded in a previous vehicle with negative equity, rolling the unpaid balance into the new loan. And in many cases, high-interest loans like this are pitched to buyers who are told it's their 'only option,' a favorite tactic of high-risk financing outfits. Whatever the case, it's a tough look. Seven years is a long time to pay off a car, especially one that may see some serious depreciation before it's halfway through the loan term. The Rise in Long-Term, High-Interest Auto Loans Is Becoming a Serious Financial Concern According to the CFPB, Americans now carry over $1.6 trillion in auto loan debt, and loan terms of 72 to 84 months are increasingly common, even though they often leave buyers "underwater" on their loans for most of the repayment period. Financial advisors generally recommend: Keeping loan terms under 60 months, avoiding APRs over 6–7 percent unless necessary, and never financing add-ons or extended warranties unless you've calculated the long-term cost. There's no indication on the term sheet of who the dealer or financier was for the proposed loan, but commenters on the clip were ready to grab their pitchforks and torches in outrage. 'This should be illegal. Someone tag the repo man!' one of them wrote. Another offered that the proposed deal is another example of buyers being preyed upon: 'In case anyone wondered why we need a consumer protection agency. These loans should be criminal.' And another wasn't feeling great about the idea of making a mortgage payment for a depreciating asset on wheels, writing, 'I'm not paying $131k for anything except a house and I'd do that extremely reluctantly.'
