Dasmohapatra gets second SJTA show cause notice
BHUBANESWAR: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has issued a second show cause notice to Srimandir Daitapati Nijog secretary Ramakrushna Dasmohapatra over his participation in inauguration of Jagannath temple at Digha despite being aware that it is being called Jagannath Dham. The SJTA has given Dasmohapatra two days to submit a satisfactory explanation failing which action will be taken against him as per the Shree Jagannath Temple Act, 1955.
The notice states that the Digha temple authorities used the name Jagannath Dham - Digha and a signboard Jagannath Dham was displayed outside the temple. 'As a senior Daitapati servitor of Srimandir, Dasmohapatra was aware of this and his participation in the consecration ceremony of 'Jagannath Dham' at Digha has led to confusion among the devotees about the traditions of Shree Jagannath temple at Puri. Besides, it has hurt the religious sentiments of countless Shree Jagannath devotees,' the notice read.
The SJTA demanded an explanation as to why he as a senior servitor of Srimandir participated in the inauguration of a temple that goes by the name Jagannath Dham, and if he raised any protest against such naming with the organisers during the inauguration ceremony. Earlier this week, the SJTA had issued a show cause notice to him over his statement on the use of surplus sacred Nabakalebara wood of the 12th-century shrine in crafting idols of the Digha temple. He was asked to give his reply within seven days from May 4.

Earlier on June 9, Padma Shri awardee and renowned sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik on Monday created a sand sculpture on Puri beach to mark 11 years of the Narendra Modi-led government, highlighting the journey towards a 'Viksit Bharat'. Narendra Modi first took office as the Prime Minister of India on May 26, 2014, and is serving his third consecutive term. Last year, he took office on June 9 after winning the third-term elections. Recently, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President and Union Minister JP Nadda highlighted the government's achievements, including good governance, change in India's 'political culture,' and several bold decisions over the past 11 years. Odisha to formulate new agroforestry policy on decarbonisation
BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government will soon roll out a new Agroforestry Policy to push forward its commitment to decarbonisation and also to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Change Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia on Saturday said 'Agroforestry Policy 2025' will be implemented after it is approved by the government. 'The policy will help us improve green cover, reduce carbon footprint and achieve the SDG in the long term. Both farmers and communities residing in forest fringe areas will be benefitted from it,' he told this paper. The government has earmarked about Rs 2,000 crore for implementation of various projects over a period of 12 years under the new policy to realise its objectives. 'Community participation in adopting sustainable practices will be one of the focused area of the policy,' he said.

Post-Op Sindoor, Odisha restricts procurement from ‘certain' countries
BHUBANESWAR: Amid the push for Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India in view of the changing geopolitical scenario, the state government has amended Odisha General Financial Rules (OGFR), 2023 enabling restrictions on procurement from certain countries. The amendments, notified by the Finance department on Thursday, authorised the state to bar procurement from bidders, who are either based in or have commercial arrangements with entities from countries or classes of countries that may pose a risk to the defence of the country or matters related to national security. The newly substituted rule-203 stated that no procurement shall be made in violation of such restrictions. Although the amendment does not name any country, officials said, it is a preemptive measure in response to the current global environment and security-related concerns raised at the national level. This change of rules came as part of a broader overhaul of the OGFR, aimed at increasing transparency, efficiency, and compliance in government procurement. The revised rules also sought to streamline procurement methods by formally categorising them into goods, services (consultancy and non-consultancy) and works. The amended rules differentiated between the categories of products, including guidance for IT projects, which will now be procured as consultancy services. 'Procurement of IT projects should normally be carried out as procurement of consultancy services, as the outcomes or deliverables vary from one service provider to another,' it read.
