Popular kitchen gadget sold on Amazon is urgently recalled over ‘serious risk of fire & EXPLODING'
A KITCHEN gadget from Amazon has been recalled over a "serious" risk of exploding. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has now banned all imports of the Moongiantgo Food Dehydrator. 2 The entire product appeared to be riddled with issues, including faults with its fuse. On the OPSS website, it states: "The product is a serious risk of fire as the fuse has insufficient granular filler to ensure safe operation under fault conditions. "If the product experiences an electrical fault whilst in use, it may catch fire or explode." According to the body, it does not meet the requirements of Electrical Equipment Safety Regulations 2016 or the Plugs and Sockets Safety Regulations 1994. The product was used to dehydrate various food items such as fruits, herbs, vegetables and meats. A similar item listed on Amazon, which meets the regulation standards, says it is fitted with a high-powered rear fan which delivers "consistent airflow throughout". The description reads: "A sleek digital control panel gives you full command of the dehydration process. "Set the temperature anywhere between 30°C and 90°C, and use the programmable timer for up to 24 hours of continuous drying." Another Amazon product was recalled over serious risk of injuries. The Soppycid Reusable Water Balloons have been removed from the online marketplace following the safety concern. Amazon's Affordable Foldable Tiny Home: Space-Saving Design and Features Revealed The toy was available in a pack of six on Amazon for £18. "The product presents a serious risk of injuries because it contains accessible magnets with a magnetic flux index that exceeds the acceptable level," the product's risk description reads. "Small, high-powered magnetic products can easily be swallowed and, when ingested, have the potential to cause serious internal injuries within the gastrointestinal tract. "The product also requires improvement to marking, labelling and documentation." Another children's toy was removed from the website over fears it could cause serious injury. The swimming float was also urgently recalled over fears it could cause serious injury or even drowning. The Joycat Baby Float, sold on Amazon, has been flagged as a safety risk. Authorities found that its attachable canopy could lift the float from the water in windy conditions, putting children in danger. The alert was issued in the UK following a border inspection. The blue and yellow sea-themed swim seat, intended for babies and toddlers, poses a 'serious risk of injuries', according to the Product Safety Report. If the float becomes airborne, a child could be thrown out and suffer an impact injury or drown. 2

Popular kids' toy sold on Amazon urgently recalled over 'serious' injury risk
Parents have been warned after a popular summer kids toy - sold on Amazon - was recalled over fears it could pose 'serious risk of injuries' due to 'accessible magnets with a magnetic flux index' A popular children's toy sold on Amazon has been recalled over fears it could pose a "serious risk of injuries". Parents have been warned not to let their kids use a specific plaything, previously available from the major online retailer. The Soppycid Reusable Water Balloons have since been removed from the website after the product recall - following fears around the safety of the items. The toy posed a safety risk because "it contains accessible magnets with a magnetic flux index that exceeds the acceptable level", according to the item's risk description. The water balloons were available to buy in a pack of six and retailed for £18. The risk description also said: "Small, high-powered magnetic products can easily be swallowed and, when ingested, have the potential to cause serious internal injuries within the gastrointestinal tract. The product also requires improvement to marking, labelling and documentation." The Office for Product Safety and Standards listed the recall and said the toys were sold via Fruggo. It said: "The product has been recalled from end users. The listings have been removed by the online marketplace (Fruugo)." It added that these toys did not meet the regulations of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. The toy was described as a "bag of colourful reusable water balloons, sealed with magnets" and the country of origin was said to be China. This comes two months after Easter toys sold at Home Bargains were urgently recalled due to concerns they could cause children "to choke". The retailer urged shoppers who bought the Happy Easter plush toys to return the product to stores. The company's website stated that the product, distributed by TJ Morris Ltd and sold in their stores, posed a "serious asphyxiation risk". This was due to the internal fibrous stuffing material - which could easily be accessed by kids because the stitching around the toy was weak. The toys were available in three variations – a yellow chick, a pink rabbit, and a white rabbit – and were all removed from sale. The affected toys had the barcode 10811016. Toys haven't been the only items hit with product recalls recently. Lidl was forced to pull a popular protein bar from shelves due to health fears. The Cookies & Cream Protein Bars, made by Healthy Fit, were removed from stores in Northern Ireland because they contained milk and soya. These items, which are common allergens, were not declared in English on the label. This therefore posed a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, and/or an allergy to soya.

NHS app to become default source for appointments, screenings and test results
Millions more people will receive personal health information directly to their smartphones within the next three years in a move that is expected to save the health service £200 million, the Department of Health and Social Care said. It will also avoid the need for at least 50 million NHS letters being sent by post each year, with the Health Secretary likening the shift from analogue to digital to 'online banking or ordering a takeaway'. The £50 million investment will see 270 million messages sent through the NHS app this year, an increase of 70 million on the previous financial year. Push notifications will provide appointment reminders to patients to try to reduce the risk of no attendance, with around eight million missed appointments in elective care missed in 2023/24. 📱 Do you have your NHS App notifications on? 📩 To help patients, over 160 million messages were sent via the NHS App in the last year. ✅ Turn notifications on to get the most out of your NHS App. Learn more: — Department of Health and Social Care (@DHSCgovuk) June 7, 2025 More than 11 million people in the UK currently log into the NHS app every month, while almost 20 million are opted in to receive healthcare messages from the app. Where app messaging is not available, particularly for elderly patients without smartphones, communications will be sent via text message and then by letter as a last resort and phone lines will be freed up. It is hoped the changes will give patients better access to manage their healthcare journey and make informed decisions about their care. NHS app services, which were launched in December 2018, are now used in 87% of hospitals across England. Last month, NHS England announced millions of patients would be able to get 'Amazon-style' tracking updates on their prescriptions through the app, to check if their medicines are ready to collect or have been despatched for delivery. Health Secretary Wes Streeting said: 'People are living increasingly busy lives and want to access information about their health at the touch of a button, rather than having to wait weeks for letters that often arrive too late. 'This Government is bringing our analogue health service into the digital age, so that being a patient in the NHS is as convenient as online banking or ordering a takeaway. 'The NHS still spends hundreds of millions of pounds on stamps, printing, and envelopes. By modernising the health service, we can free up huge amounts of funding to reinvest in the front line. 'Through the investment and reform in our Plan for Change, we will make the NHS App the front door to the health service and put power in the hands of patients.' Rachel Power, chief executive of the Patient's Association, said: 'This major upgrade to the NHS App marks a significant step in modernising how patients receive information, from test results to screening invitations. 'This was a recommendation from our Digital Coalition and realises changes that patients have asked for. 'We welcome this investment and the ambition behind it. Success for any digital innovation will be the implementation of the Digital Inclusion Plan and working directly with patients and communities.'
