A man has been hospitalised with serious injuries following an assault in Dublin city this afternoon.
The serious assault occurred near Rosie Hackett Bridge on Eden Quay in Dublin 1 at around 4.30pm.
Emergency services attended to the man, who was brought to the Mater Misericordiae Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The scene is currently preserved for technical examination.
Another man, aged in his 30s was subsequently arrested and is detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the Dublin City area.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Gardaí confirm death of man on a farm in Kilcock, Co. Kildare
Gardaí today (Wednesday, June 4) confirmed that a workplace incident on a farm in Kilcock, Co. Kildare is being investigated by authorities. Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the incident on Monday (June 2) in Kilcock and confirmed that a 'male, aged in his 60s who was working on the site was pronounced deceased'. In a statement, gardaí said: 'This matter has now been referred to the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), who are the lead agency responsible for the investigation of such matters. 'The body has now been removed to Nass mortuary where a post mortem will be conducted at later stage'. The man who died in the incident has been named locally as Eamonn Egan, Lloyd's country manager and general representative for Ireland since 2008. Tributes have been paid to the Irish businessman who passed away following the incident on the farm near Maynooth. A spokesperson for Lloyd's said: 'Our thoughts are first and foremost with Eamonn's family at this incredibly difficult time. 'Eamonn was well known and respected across the global network, as well as being an influential figurehead for the local market which went from strength to strength under his leadership. 'Eamonn will be fondly remembered for so many things, not least his wonderful character, dedication to the Ireland market, and of course his passion for all things equestrian'. Izzet Can Berber, aged in his thirties, was involved in the fatal collision which occurred at Dublin speed checkpoint on the R132 at Lissenhall near Swords, North Dublin last month. Garda Kevin Flatley became the 90th officer to die in the line of duty in Ireland when he was hit by the motorcyclist during the collision on Sunday, May 11. Gardaí confirmed on Sunday morning that the motorcyclist involved in the collision had died as a result of his injuries in hospital. Garda Kevin Flatley According to a notice on Izzet Can Berber, of Balgriffin, Dublin 13 and formerly of Turkey and late of the Elliott Group (died) 'peacefully, in the wonderful care of staff in the ICU Unit in Beaumont Hospital with his loving wife by his side'. Predeceased by his parents Ayse and Ozer, he is the 'beloved husband of Caitríona'. Man, 80s, dies in horror early-morning house fire in Co Westmeath as gardai launch probe after rushing to scene
A MAN, aged in his 80s, has died in a house fire in Co Westmeath. The pensioner was pronounced dead at the scene of the blaze at a home in the Gilbertstown area, near Castlepollard, in the early hours of this morning. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to the mortuary at Regional Hospital Mullingar. A post-mortem examination is expected to take place in due course. Gardaí have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire but it is understood that foul play is not suspected.
