Hyderabad: Endowment Minister Konda Surekha has fulfilled a long-standing aspiration of Archakas (temple priests) and employees across Telangana by establishing a dedicated welfare fund. This initiative aims to provide crucial support to those who have diligently served in temples for extended periods.
On Monday, Endowment Minister Konda Surekha, joined by Endowment Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyar, Director Venkata Rao, and other officials, unveiled the poster for the Archakas and Employees Welfare Fund. Konda Surekha explained that the government had made a significant decision benefiting these vital members of the temple community. She confirmed that approximately 13,700 priests and other staff working in temples up to the Assistant Commissioner level under the Endowments Department would receive assistance through this new welfare trust.
The fund will provide posthumous or retirement gratuity to Archakas and other employees. Importantly, gratuity will now be paid posthumously to priests under the Dhoopa Deepa Naivedyam scheme. Furthermore, ex gratia payments upon death and funeral expenses will also be covered by this fund. Beyond these provisions, the fund will offer various forms of financial assistance, including medical reimbursement, support for marriage ceremonies, Upanayana Sanskaram, house construction, purchase and repair, education, and aid for disabled employees unable to perform their duties.

Minister reviews arrangements for Bonalu festivities

Hyderabad: Endowment minister Konda Surekha on Tuesday directed officials to make necessary arrangements to ensure that the Ashada Bonalu festival is celebrated on a grand scale in all 28 temples across the city. "There is no shortfall of budget as the govt has allocated Rs 20 crore. If needed, the govt would allocate additional funds and bring the issue to the notice of the chief minister so that the festival is celebrated on a grand scale," the minister said at a review meeting. Referring to last year's incident at Balkampet temple, where minister Ponnam Prabhakar was allegedly not accorded proper protocol by temple authorities, the minister instructed officials to ensure that such incidents do not reoccur. "To avoid such issues, prepare a detailed plan of action outlining the necessary arrangements. Bonalu will kick off from Golconda on June 26, followed by festivities at Secunderabad Ujjaini Mahankali temple and Lal Darwaja Mahankali temple," she added. The minister asked the officials to coordinate with revenue and endowment departments to ensure all arrangements are in place for the festival.

Arrangements reviewed for Bonalu

Endowments Minister Konda Surekha has directed officials to make necessary arrangements for the smooth and successful conduct of Bonalu. The Minister, accompanied by Hyderabad in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, reviewed the arrangements being made for the ensuing Bonalu festival with senior officials of civic and police departments on Tuesday. Bonalu, starting from the first Thursday of Aashada Masam of Telugu calendar, will be held in 28 temples in the GHMC and adjoining Ranga Reddy districts. Ms. Surekha directed the officials to ensure that there were no shortcomings in the arrangements. Government had already sanctioned ₹20 crore for the smooth conduct of the festival and steps should be taken to see that there was no scope for complaints from any quarters, she said. Police Commissioner C.V. Anand said that DJs will not get permission to use high-decibel music systems.

Konda Surekha reviews on Bonalu festival, gives directions to officials

Minister Konda Surekha announced that a meeting was held with officials from all departments on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming Bonalu Festival. The government has requested Rs. 30 crore for the festivities, with Rs. 20 crore already allocated. Last year's celebration occurred smoothly, although there were issues in a few areas. This year, efforts are underway to ensure a seamless event, with special attention given to preventing stampedes during VIP moments. Minister Surekha emphasised the importance of ensuring that Joginis do not encounter any difficulties during the festivities. She expressed a desire to improve the celebrations compared to previous years, noting the positive feedback received from devotees from neighbouring states during the recent Saraswati Pushkaras. Officials have been instructed to maintain a professional demeanour, treat all attendees with respect, and facilitate smooth darshan. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar added that officials should revise the 2024 action plan and prepare adequately for 2025, ensuring that mistakes from the previous year are not repeated. The Bonalu festivities will commence with the first Bonam at Golkonda Jagadambika Ammavari. A comprehensive action plan is in progress to ensure the successful execution of various events, including the Golkonda Jatara, Balkampet Yellamma Thalli annual wedding, and the Ammavari Ambari procession. Minister Prabhakar noted that with the addition of new temples, an extra 10 per cent of funding may be necessary and urged a swift completion of the endowment and revenue department cheque distribution. Both ministers highlighted the collective responsibility of all departments to uphold the sanctity of the event, with an emphasis on serving the Goddess rather than merely fulfilling a duty. They expressed hope that the festival will proceed without issues, blessed by the Goddess.
