Crystal Palace finally confirm FA Cup parade plan but fans left furious

Daily Mirror23-05-2025

Crystal Palace have announced how they will celebrate their FA Cup victory over Manchester City with supporters - and confirmed when their bus parade will take place around Selhurst Park
Crystal Palace have confirmed their plans for a bus parade to celebrate their FA Cup win. The Eagles earned their first piece of major silverware with victory over Manchester City at Wembley and will now extend their celebrations with supporters to Monday May 26.
Eberechi Eze's first half strike earned the south London side victory against Pep Guardiola's men as goalkeeper Dean Henderson controversially avoided a red card. Palace have already lifted the trophy on the Selhurst Park pitch as they celebrated with a Premier League win over Wolves on Tuesday night.

And now they will host a more formal celebration to enable their fans to join the side and see the FA Cup trophy up close. The Eagles' FA Cup-winning heroes and their trophy will take part in an open-top bus parade down the SE25 streets on Bank Holiday Monday (May 26).

It will begin at the top of Whitehorse Lane from 13:00 on Monday and last 45 minutes as it completes a route that will turn into Park Road and down Holmesdale Road. A party on the pitch at Selhurst Park will then follow from 14:30.
The club will host a ticketed event, though it will be free, that will serve up live entertainment, special guests and the end-of-season awards for those in attendance. Standing tickets on the pitch and seats in the Main Stand will be available to witness a trophy lift or two.
But some fans have been left frustrated with the day's itinerary after a dispute with the local council forced a change in plans.
It was earlier reported that there were issues raised by Bromley Council over potentially using Crystal Palace Park for the FA Cup parade. And the council has now seen criticism after the confirmation of the route.
One social media user said: "@LBofBromley thanks for being party poopers, if you have had anything to do with stopping the parade. Don't get or understand why you wouldn't want this to be celebrated, this is a massive achievement! Shame on you!"

"The Crystal Palace bowl would have been the perfect place to end," said another. "Ready made stage which would require little setting up.
"Route could have travelled through Croydon and Selhurst past the ground, made it's way to Penge road left up along Penge high street then into the park."
"Be ashamed of your actions," said one frustrated fan. "The biggest and best thing to happen to South London in decades and you can't facilitate it."

Another said: "Oi @LBofBromley hang your heads on shame. Once in a lifetime opportunity here. No other council have banned these. Think of the South London children this will inspire."
As well as being able to lift the FA Cup trophy, Crystal Palace were also awarded a place in next season's Europa League. The club are confident that they will be able to compete in the competition despite their largest shareholder John Textor also owning Lyon, who could also qualify for the tournament.

UEFA's club financial control body (CFCB) is set to look into the case, but the Eagles are confident that there will be no issue as Textor's Eagle Football Holdings do not have the majority of voting rights.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner is not thinking about European competition just yet however, even with the Premier League season almost over. The Austrian said: 'It makes just no sense thinking and talking about the Europa League.

"It's so far away. I think this could be the biggest mistake you can do. My only thoughts are how we can improve our game, how we can improve as a team. here won't be big changes.
"I think from a financial perspective, Crystal Palace will never be a top four club in England. I think this club got promoted in 2013. Since then, this club has always progressed. Not huge steps. You can be a one-hit wonder. But then you're back. Then you're gone.
'It just makes no sense. That's why we said our planning shouldn't be: 'Now we play in Europe. We do crazy things and everything collapses'. We follow the pathway.
"Now we get a special reward. We can play in Europe. But we don't leave our pathway. This pathway didn't start with Oliver Glasner. It started with the new owners in 2010. For me the next step is to play between eight and 12 in the Premier League.'

Next Brentford Manager Odds & Betting: Who Are The Contenders to Replace Frank?

Long-serving head coach Thomas Frank appears on the verge of departing Brentford for pastures new, with the Dane reportedly in talks with Tottenham Hotspur, and betting sites have reacted by opening a next Brentford manager market. Frank has been at the Gtech since 2018, taking over when Brentford were still in the Championship and earning promotion before turning the Bees into a well-established Premier League side. But his impressive showings mean he has long been touted for a move to a bigger Premier League club, and Spurs have identified him as their top candidate after deciding to part ways with Europa League winner Ange Postecoglou. And Frank's upcoming move leaves Brentford looking for a new manager for the first time in seven years ahead of preparations starting for the 2025/26 season. A 10th-placed finish last term has left Brentford in a good position ahead of next term, but with Frank leaving, alongside the potential departure of Bryan Mbeumo, the new boss will need to act quickly both on the pitch and in the market ahead of the season beginning on 16 August. According to football betting sites, current assistant manager Justin Cochrane is the leading candidate to take over at Gtech, with Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna also admired. And with plenty of movement possible before the new season starts, we've taken a look at the leading contenders for the Brentford job. Next Brentford Manager Odds Manager Odds Betting site Justin Cochrane 4/7 Parimatch Kieran McKenna 6/1 Unibet Danny Rohl 8/1 Unibet Michael Carrick 12/1 BetVictor Edin Terzic 16/1 talkSPORT Bet Marco Rose 16/1 BetVictor Steven Gerrard 16/1 Unibet Sean Dyche 16/1 Parimatch Carlos Corberan 20/1 Unibet Ange Postecoglou 20/1 Parimatch Ralph Hasenhuttl 20/1 Unibet Mauricio Pochettino 25/1 BetVictor Note that according to the terms on most betting sites, 'caretaker and interim managers completing at least 10 consecutive competitive games will be deemed the permanent manager'. Current first team coach Cochrane is the leading candidate to take over from Frank, with the Englishman also a member of Thomas Tuchel's coaching staff within the Three Lions set-up. An appointment to the lead role at Brentford would likely mean Cochrane has to shelve that role with England, but the 43-year-old may well jump at the chance for a first head coach role having previously coached at numerous levels at Manchester United, Tottenham and with the national side. Cochrane is short as 1/3 on some betting apps to take over at the Gtech, though it is not known for sure whether the Bees hierarchy will judge him to have enough top-level experience to take over such a job. Current Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna is an interesting proposition at around 6/1, with the Englishman having seen his side suffer relegation from the Premier League this season. Nevertheless, McKenna has received plaudits for his performance while in charge of the Tractor Boys, and having also won promotion from the Championship the season before, he certainly has the edge in experience over Cochrane. Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is the other 'leading' candidate, according to the betting odds, at 8/1. The German's side finished 12th in the Championship last season, and it doesn't seem as though that performance will be enough to tempt the Bees into discussions. Former Premier League and Champions League bosses in the running Ex-Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick is next on the list at 12/1, with Carrick having parted ways with the club after failing to finish in the play-off spots last season. Carrick initially showed plenty of promise at the Riverside, and though it ended on a sour note he will likely have plenty of suitors – though it is likely that a job of this size will be too much for him at this point in his career. Further down the odds, there's a wealth of experience among some of the less likely candidates, including Champions League finalist Edin Terzic. Former Dortmund boss Terzic guided Dortmund to the 2024 final but lost out to Real Madrid, and has been out of work since being sacked by the club not long after. He is priced at 16/1 to take over, as is fellow ex-Dortmund boss Marco Rose. Rose, who is a free agent after leaving RB Leipzig in March, has over 12 years of experience including time at RB Salzburg, and a first role at a Premier League club could be enough to tempt him away from Germany. And if Brentford want to go with experience then former Everton boss Sean Dyche could be a good choice, with the ex-Burnley boss out of work since his sacking in January. He's offered around 16/1, though his football would be at odds with that of Frank, so hiring him would perhaps be counter-productive for the Bees. And the last manager at 16/1 is Steven Gerrard, who recently left Al-Effitaq in Saudi Arabia after a string of poor results. Though he won the Scottish title with Rangers in 2021, the fact that he left Aston Villa in 2022 with the club just above the relegation zone suggests that Brentford will steer clear of the former Liverpool man. Spurs Favourites in The Mix? There's plenty of intrigue among the less-likely candidates to take over at the Gtech, with two names standing out in particular – Ange Postecoglou and Mauricio Pochettino. The two former Spurs bosses are seen as unlikely to join Brentford considering the circumstances, with Postecoglou perhaps taking time off – and hoping for a step up from the Spurs job – while Poch has only just begun his tenure as manager of the United States national team. They are priced at 20/1 and 25/1 respectively. Valencia manager Carlos Corberan is another outside shout at 20/1, having impressed in Spain after taking over at the end of 2024 with the club near relegation and subsequently overseeing a climb up the table to 12th. And Ralph Hasenhuttl rounds off those offered at 20/1, with the Austrian having been sacked by VFL Wolfsburg after an 11th-placed finish in the Bundesliga. West Ham star Lucas Paqueta is baptised as he anxiously awaits verdict for spot-fixing trial which could see him face LIFETIME ban

West Ham star Lucas Paqueta has been baptised amid an anxious wait for the result of his FA spot-fixing trial. The Brazilian has been awaiting a verdict for nearly two years after an investigation into whether he intentionally collected cautions in four Premier League fixtures began in August 2023. Paqueta was charged by the FA in May 2024 and could face a lifetime ban if he is found guilty. The trial cost the 27-year-old a £80million move to Manchester City and West Ham boss Graham Potter admitted it had taken a mental and physical toll on the midfielder. He insists he is innocent of any wrongdoing and his wife Maria Fournier previously claimed the couple have been 'living this nightmare for two years'. The trial finally concluded last week but West Ham were warned it could take another four to eight weeks for Paqueta's fate to be revealed. The 27-year-old was baptised amid an anxious wait for the result of this spot-fixing trial As he nervously waits to see if his Premier League career is over, Paqeuta was baptised in front of his wife and Flamengo forward Pedro Guilherme. Wife Fournier shared snaps of the baptism, which took place in a swimming pool, alongside the caption: 'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things have passed away; behold, EVERYTHING HAS BECOME NEW! 'My husband was born again!!' Paqueta's trial has been described as the most high‑profile corruption case in English football since Bruce Grobbelaar was acquitted of conspiring to fix five Premier League games in a criminal trial 27 years ago. The attacking midfielder could be banned for life if the panel examining the evidence decide he was involved in a conspiracy to collect cards in order to influence betting outcomes. While there is not yet any indication over whether he will be found innocent or guilty once the verdict arrives, West Ham sources have long feared the odds are stacked against them due to the FA's standard of proof being based on a 'balance of probabilities', which is usual in civil cases, as opposed to the more rigorous 'beyond a reasonable doubt' for those accused of criminal offences. Paqueta broke down in tears during one home game with Tottenham towards the end of last season when he received a yellow card, in a sign of the toll being taken on him. He did not start another game for West Ham under manager Potter after that Spurs incident. Mail Sport revealed that Paqueta was being investigated on August 18, 2023 and the FA formally charged him on May 23, 2024 with four counts of spot-fixing and two of obstructing their investigation. Insiders say Paqueta mentally built himself up for the beginning of his hearing on March 17, originally believing it would last no longer than three weeks. However, the scale of the evidence being evaluated meant it was not concluded within that timeframe, and further complications arose when it had to be placed on hiatus, seemingly because of scheduling issues surrounding those involved.

Kerkez to Liverpool transfer takes huge step with fee agreed and medical booked

Liverpool are chasing Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez and the potential £45million transfer has taken a step forward with the news that the Cherries have identified a replacement Bournemouth have agreed a deal to sign Stade Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert. The Cherries have been hot in pursuit of the 23-year-old, who they view as a replacement for Liverpool-bound Milos Kerkez, over the past 10 days. Andoni Iraola's side have now struck an agreement with their French counterparts worth in the region of £14.4million, inclusive of add-ons. Truffert had just one year left to run on his contract in Ligue 1 and had told Rennes that he was keen to pursue a new challenge. ‌ He has already verbally agreed a long-term contract with Bournemouth and has now received the green light to undergo medical checks. Nottingham Forest and Marseille had also shown an interest in Truffert. ‌ Truffert's move to Bournemouth will only go ahead if Kerkez is sold to Liverpool, as expected. The Cherries are holding out for around £45m for the Hungary international, who enjoyed an outstanding 2024/25 season. The 21-year-old, who is under contract with Bournemouth until June 2028, started all 38 Premier League matches for the club, chipping in with two goals and six assists. He is keen to join Liverpool, who have identified him as a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, and left the Hungary squad last week citing 'personal reasons'. Negotiations between the two clubs were slightly complicated by Cherries technical director Simon Francis spending time in the United States last week representing Bournemouth in The Soccer Tournament. He has been leading talks with former Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who used to work at Bournemouth. Mirror Football understands that second-choice left-back Kostas Tsimikas is likely to leave the Reds this summer, with interest from the Premier League and abroad. Robertson, meanwhile, has previously suggested he is keen to sign a new contract with Liverpool and has insisted he is ready to fight for his place in the side. HAVE YOUR SAY! Is Milos Kerkez a good signing for Liverpool? Comment below. ‌ "We're not daft, it looks as if a deal could potentially be done," Robertson told BBC Scotland. "But, until that is done, I've not even given that a second thought. I back myself, I've got confidence in my own ability and that drives me forward. "I've had eight fantastic years at Liverpool in terms of winning trophies, being a mainstay in the team, which I'm incredibly proud of. I'm not getting any younger, I can't change my age, but I still believe I've got a lot to give and that's what I focus on. "I focus on myself - you can't focus on other people or who you're competing with. I still believe I have a hell of a lot to give for however many years I can keep going. My body feels good at the minute.'
