SINGAPORE, May 26 — SEA Aquarium will reopen as the Singapore Oceanarium on July 23 after a three-month revamp.
The new attraction in the Resorts World Sentosa is three times larger, featuring 22 immersive zones, Singapore media reported today.
Among them are Ocean Wonders, home to thousands of moon jellies, and Singapore's Coast, which showcases local marine life.
Ancient Waters and Conquering Land display prehistoric creatures and living fossils while the Spirit of Exploration features the Jewel of Muscat, a replica of a ninth-century Arabian ship.
A research centre next to the Oceanarium will support marine education and conservation.
This includes collaborations on marine science and climate resilience with the National University of Singapore and the Nanyang Technological University.
Ticketing details have yet to be announced.

Chinese tourist drowns while swimming alone at Pulau Perhentian, say Terengganu police

JERTIH, June 6 — A female tourist from China drowned while swimming at Pulau Perhentian here yesterday. Besut district police chief Supt Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu said the 33-year-old victim was believed to have been swimming alone during the 11 am incident, while her cousin remained on the beach. The incident came to light when the cousin noticed that the victim had not returned to shore after about 30 minutes in the water. 'The cousin began searching for her and was informed by a member of the public that the victim had been found unconscious and floating near a rocky area. She was later confirmed dead,' he said. The body was taken to the Forensic Unit of Besut Hospital for further action. — Bernama

Barge grounds off Singapore's Tanjong Beach, no injuries or pollution reported

SINGAPORE, June 6 — A barge carrying containers ran aground off Tanjong Beach in Sentosa island, Singapore this morning, but authorities said there were no injuries, damage, or pollution. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said in a statement that the vessel, Marco Polo 802, remains stable. It added tugboats have been dispatched to tow the barge back out to sea. The statement also said there is no threat to navigational safety, and Tanjong Beach remains open to the public. MPA said it is working closely with Sentosa Development Corporation and other agencies to minimise disruption and is currently investigating the cause of the incident.
