Bristol valedictorian named Student Athlete of the Week
BRISTOLVILLE, Ohio (WKBN) – As Bristol senior Jack Berry's role has expanded on the court even more this season, he has continued to raise his level of play as well.
'It's nice kind of getting to sit back and watch all of my work throughout the years pay off and finally put some numbers up,' Berry said.
Last week, he earned team MVP after scoring 19 points, then followed it up with 23 points in another Panthers win.
'Growing up, I've had guys in front of me who have been Player of the Week and all that,' Berry said. 'So it's nice to just, I guess, finally fill their shoes.'
Berry will earn eight varsity letters across basketball (three), baseball (three), soccer and golf (one each).
But those aren't even his most impressive numbers, Jack is a perfect 4.0 student, who's set to graduate as the Class of 2026 valedictorian.
'Like 4.0 didn't really, I guess come naturally. It was like my sophomore year there they were like, 'Oh, you could be valedictorian,'' Berry said. 'I'm like, 'oh alright, I'll try to do that.' So here I am.'
On top of that, he also has been taking college courses already, including trigonometry and writing I & II.
'I guess it was nice to just kind of get my feet wet there, so going to college will probably make it a lot easier,' Berry said. 'Obviously, my teachers now probably aren't going to grade as hard as college professors were, so just to get like a little closer to that line would be nice.'
Berry even finds room for Beta Club, National Honor Society, volunteering with food drives and the youth basketball program.
The parting advice from Berry is simple, give it 100% no matter what it is.
'You just have to do the best you can with what you're given,' Berry said.
Next, his plan is to study civil engineering at Youngstown State University after graduation.

The NFL's four-time Most Valuable Player spent months contemplating his future before deciding to sign a one-year deal with the Steelers. The 41-year-old held a news conference on Tuesday after spending his first day training with the Steelers and one of the last questions was about the ring. "Yeah, it's a wedding ring," said Rodgers. Asked how long he's been married, he added: "It's been a couple of months." Rodgers was released after a disappointing second season with the New York Jets, becoming a free agent for the first time in his 20-year career. He had visited the Steelers and reportedly received an offer from the New York Giants, but in April, Rodgers said that he was "open to anything", including retirement. Advertisement The 2011 Super Bowl winner previously said that he delayed his decision because of personal reasons and, earlier in Tuesday's news conference, he said: "I was dealing with a lot of things in my personal life. "Some things improved a little bit, where I felt like I could fully be all in here with the guys. "I didn't want to short-change the guys and be signed but be elsewhere mentally or physically. He led the franchise to a sixth Super Bowl win in 2009, before losing the big game to Rodgers' Packers in 2011, and the Steelers have not had a losing record in Tomlin's 18 seasons in charge. Asked why he chose Pittsburgh, Rodgers said: "It starts with Mike Tomlin. I've been a fan of his for a long time. Only Peyton Manning (five) has been named the NFL MVP more times than Rodgers, yet a second Super Bowl win has eluded him. Should Bruins fans want Brad Marchand back, or should they instead look toward a new chapter for the Black & Gold?

Marchand is beloved in Boston, a Stanley Cup winner in his first full pro season, a former captain, BFF to Patrice Bergeron, a direct link to better, more competitive times, a fixture among all-time franchise leaders in everything from games played to goals scored to penalty minutes logged. Whenever and however this Stanley Cup Final ends, Marchand will be on target to be an unrestricted free agent July 1. Oilers at Panthers Stanley Cup Final Game 4 odds, picks: Will Connor McDavid step up?
Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup Final were as even as it gets. The Oilers' Game 1 comeback win in overtime changed the tone of the rematch series after they went down 3-0 to Florida last June. Then the Panthers pushed back with a double-overtime win in Game 2 and a 6-1 drubbing in Game 3. Now, Edmonton must dig deep to even the series before heading back to Canada. Advertisement Panthers lead series 2-1 Series odds: Panthers -250, Oilers +200 When the series shifted from Edmonton to Florida for Game 3, the reigning champs took over: The Panthers won every battle. They scored three five-on-five goals and had the special-teams edge on both ends of the ice. In net, Sergei Bobrovsky stood tall, saving 1.3 goals above expected. Stuart Skinner, across the way, was completely exposed and responded poorly to his workload before getting the hook. The Panthers wear down most teams. They grind them down along the boards, create chaos in the middle and physically walk the line in a way that infuriates opponents. The Oilers were shaky coming into Game 3 as a result, and quickly became unglued. So, how will the Oilers respond? Connor McDavid has to break through the Aleksander Barkov matchup, especially now that the Panthers' first line made an impact on the scoresheet. Leon Draisaitl has to find more shooting lanes after not attempting a single shot in Game 3. And Edmonton needs to revitalize a commitment to team defense that helped the Oilers get this far.
