R. Kelly Seeks Release From Prison, Claiming Officers Tried to Have Him Killed by Fellow Inmate
R. Kelly, who is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence, is seeking to be released from prison, claiming jail officials attempted to solicit a fellow inmate to kill him.
In a court filing on Tuesday, the disgraced R&B star asked a judge to be released from the Federal Correctional Institution in Butner, North Carolina. He's serving multiple decades after being convicted in two separate criminal cases for several sex crimes.

Kelly claims a prison officer 'illegally accessed and stole a series of phone calls and emails' between the former musician and a woman and his attorney, according to the motion. He also alleges a former cellmate stole 'attorney-client correspondence' and shared the letters with prosecutors ahead of his trial in New York.
To stop this information from being released, Kelly alleges that prison officials tried to have him killed. In the filing, Kelly alleges that a fellow inmate, a member of the Aryan Brotherhood gang, came up to him and 'disclosed that he was sent to FCI Butner by BOP officials who directed him to murder Mr. Kelly.' When he failed to go through with it, the filing claims the Aryan Brotherhood member also 'had his own life threatened.'
Kelly's attorney, Beau Brindle, added in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, 'R. Kelly's life is being threatened because of his decision to stand up and expose the violation of his constitutional rights made by corrupt prosecutors who use Bureau of Prisons officers and cooperating witnesses to facilitate these violations.'
'Once it became clear that he was uncovering evidence of the corruption underlying the charges in his federal cases, a white supremacist member of the Aryan Brotherhood was sent to murder him,' the statement continued. 'We are filing our motion to make sure that they cannot get away with it.'
In response, Billboard reported that prosecutors filed their own documents asking the judge to strike Kelly's filing. 'Robert Kelly is a serial sexual predator,' prosecutors wrote in their filing. 'He even documented his sexual abuse of children on film — creating child pornography — such that the abuse would live on in perpetuity. That abuse and harassment continues with defendant's latest filing.'
Kelly was convicted of racketeering and sex trafficking in New York in 2021 and found guilty of child pornography and enticing minors for sex in Chicago in 2022. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the New York case, and to 20 years for the Chicago case, with both sentences overlapping.

Police tase suspect in high-speed chase through Wichita Falls
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Wichita County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a man after they said he led them on a chase Wednesday evening. Before 5:10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, a Wichita County Sheriff's Deputy attempted a traffic stop near Holliday Street after witnessing a Ram 2500 pickup truck fail to stop at a stop sign and then crash over a curb to avoid hitting another vehicle stopped at the stop sign. According to the arrest affidavit, the driver, later identified as Justin Billegas, continued at a high rate of speed, crashing over multiple curbs and weaving around other vehicles. At one point, Billegas was driving approximately 100 miles per hour in the median of Old Jacksboro Highway. When Billegas attempted to turn east onto 33rd Street, deputies said his high rate of speed caused him to crash into the curb and stairwell of the B&B Upholstery and Red Threads Embroidery building. The arrest affidavit said Billegas attempted to drive away, but the deputy stopped the truck with his patrol unit. Billegas then tried to run away on foot before deputies tased him. It was later determined that Billegas had taken the pickup without permission at a nearby address. Billegas is charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, Evading Arrest or Detention, and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. NEW YORK -- NEW YORK (AP) — The Recording Academy has tweaked some of its rules for the 2026 Grammy Awards, including carving out a stand-alone category for best album cover — a day after Sabrina Carpenter sparked considerable discourse unveiling what is believed to be the cover for her next album. The academy on Thursday announced that the best recording package and the best boxed or special limited edition package categories will be combined into the best recording package category, with best album cover spun out on its own. The last Grammy for best recording package went to 'Brat,' the Charli xcx album whose distinctive cover was immediately embraced by pop culture and meme creators. 'The Academy's top priority is to represent the music people that we serve each year,' Harvey Mason jr., CEO of the Recording Academy said in a statement. 'That entails listening carefully to our members to make sure our rules and guidelines reflect today's music and allow us to accurately recognize as many deserving creators as possible.' Carpenter revealed the title and release date for her new album, 'Man's Best Friend,' on Wednesday. The image shows Carpenter, dressed in a black dress and high heels, kneeling on the ground in a dog-like pose while an unseen person pulls her by the hair. On social media, some fans said the image was demeaning while others argued it was satirical. The album would be eligible for the new category if she releases 'Man's Best Friend' on Aug. 29, as promised. The Grammy eligibility period closes the next day. On May 28, Trump also pardoned Louisiana-born rapper NBA YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, who was serving a 23-month sentence for federal gun charges. Kelly is serving his sentence in North Carolina after his 2021 and 2022 convictions for racketeering, sex trafficking, child pornography and enticement. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison in a Brooklyn federal court in 2022 and 20 years in a Chicago federal court in 2023, to be served concurrently. One year from the latter sentence is set to be served consecutively.
