The temptations to add a new walk-up song must've been too strong for Francisco Lindor.
The Mets shortstop has used 'My Girl' since last May, but on Friday in the series opener against the Cubs, it was revealed that he will be alternating with another song — 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.
And, sure enough, in his second at-bat, Lindor came up to the plate with the change.
SNY field reporter Steve Gelbs made clear that Lindor will still use the fan-favorite song by The Temptations — which has become a sing-along event during his at-bats at Citi Field.
During the playoffs last year, the group even came to the ballpark during the NLCS to perform 'My Girl' live before Game 5 against the Dodgers, the one game at home the Mets won in the series.
'It was an amazing moment, to be quite honest,' Lindor said after that game. 'Most players pick a walk-up song just because that's how they feel at the moment, but we also want the fans to vibe to a song. Whenever you see the whole crowd getting into it, I think it's pretty cool.

'So having The Temptations here singing the national anthem and then singing the song, one of their biggest hits, and seeing how the crowd got behind it, it was pretty cool.'

Gelbs noted that Lindor, someone who likes to keep things fresh and make changes, did consider removing 'My Girl' entirely from the rotation but understood what it has meant to fans.
Lindor, during his first at-bat Friday after 'My Girl' played, blasted a leadoff homer to give the Mets a quick 1-0 lead.
In his second at-bat with the new song, he did not have the same luck and struck out.

Manny Machado's solo home run (10)

Francisco Alvarez, Francisco Lindor and Paul Blackburn comment on Mets extra-inning win over Dodgers For Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez, "it felt good" to deliver an RBI double in the 10th inning of a 4-3 win. His struggles have been well documented but he continues to work his way back to form. Francisco Lindor, who homered to lead off the game sees "the grinding" that Alvarez is doing and feels he's turning the corner. He called Monday night's battle "a great team win." Paul Blackburn threw five scoreless innings and after not pitching in a major league game since last August, he was just happy to be back. He even struck MVP Shohei Ohtani out twice, attributing his success to having faced him numerous times when he was with the Angels. 12:05 Now Playing Paused Ad Playing

Francisco Lindor Shares Bold Take on Teammate Pete Alonso

Francisco Lindor Shares Bold Take on Teammate Pete Alonso originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After signing a new contract with the New York Mets last offseason, Pete Alonso is having the best start to a season of his career. Advertisement He's batting .298 with 15 home runs and 57 RBI as well as putting up a .977 OPS. Alonso leads the Mets in all of those categories and his two-run double last night against the Colorado Rockies proved to be crucial. The team was down 1-0 in the seventh inning when Alonso gave the Mets the lead. Before his hit, New York was 0-8 with runners in scoring position in the contest. Through just six games in June, he's driven in 14 runs, making him the most dangerous player at the plate in the league right now. Co-star Francisco Lindor had high praise for the first baseman following last night's game, mentioning how special of a player he is for the squad. 'Pete has meant a lot,' Lindor said. 'Leading the team in batting average, OPS, he's been tremendous for us. He makes us all better. He's special. The defensive play he made today, running the bases the right way. He's turning himself into a well-rounded player. He's a very special player and we're glad he's on our team.' Lindor is dealing with a broken pinky toe, however, that didn't stop him from delivering a clutch two-run double himself, with Alonso sliding into home plate for their fourth run of the game, clinching the win. Advertisement "I think this is going to be the best year of his career, God willing," Lindor said. "He's going to keep up doing what he's doing, I think he's going to end up with one of the best Mets seasons ever, probably."
