England's Joe Root may have a chance on Thursday to become the fifth batter to reach 13,000 test runs. He needs only 28 more to join Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid.
Fast bowler Sam Cook will make his test debut at 27 for England in an inexperienced attack. Fellow seamer Josh Tongue reappears after two years for his third test.
Zimbabwe lost a warmup match against a County Select XI in Leicester last week and has brought in batting allrounder Sikandar Raza, after he was on duty for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League. Raza will also provide the spin option after Zimbabwe chose four seamers.

England U21s held by Slovenia
England U21s were held in their second EURO U21 game after a goalless draw with Slovenia. There were plenty of chances between the two sides with Slovenia starting the brighter and forcing James Beadle into some solid stops. Advertisement Lee Carsley's side grew into the game though with Ethan Nwaneri and James McAtee having good chances. It was Harvey Elliott who came closest though with a volleyed effort that may well have been a cross in front of the face of goal but if it had gone in the Liverpool man would surely claim it was deliberate. Slovenia goalkeeper was the hero in the second half Martin Turk and he earned his side a point in stoppage time with a superb save. Substitutes Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Jack Hinshelwood combined with the Genoa man's cross finding the head of Hinshelwood but Turk was able to just tip it over the bar. That result means England top Group B with four points ahead of Germany who are yet to play their second game. A point should do it for England when they face the Germans next.
