State police K9 helps apprehend home burglary suspect in Morris
MORRIS, Conn. (WTNH) — State police say one of their K9s helped apprehend a man accused of burglarizing a home last week.
Joshua Pirie, 38, of Morris, was arrested on an active warrant on March 14, about three days after the troopers were dispatched for a burglary investigation.

Pirie was charged with:
Risk of injury to a child
Cruelty to animals
Threatening second, physical threat
First-degree reckless endangerment
Second-degree burglary
Possession of burglar tools
First-degree criminal mischief
Interfering with an officer
Assault of public safety personnel
Disorderly conduct
According to an arrest warrant, Pirie appeared heavily disoriented when troopers arrived at the scene.
After not complying with their verbal commands, Pirie allegedly ran back towards the victim's residence, which is when K9 Krypto was released and used multiple dog bites to detain the suspect.

While police worked to get him into custody, Pirie is also accused of throwing rocks and gravel at troopers' faces. They were not injured.
The victim told police that during the incident, Pirie was at some points holding scissors, grabbed and choked the family dog, was banging on all the windows while trying to get into the home, and smashed the backdoor. They believe Pirie caused more than $1,500 of damage to the house and property.
He was initially transported to a hospital for immediate medical attention.
Pirie was held on a $250,000 court-set bond and was scheduled to appear in Torrington Superior Court on March 14.

Bakersfield man accused of killing estranged wife makes first court appearance
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man accused of killing his estranged wife last month at a house in east Bakersfield made his first court appearance Monday, more than a week after he was first scheduled to be arraigned. Rafael Estrada, 44, pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, four counts of willful cruelty to a child, spousal abuse, allowing or causing injury to an elder or dependent adult, recklessly evading a peace officer, driving a vehicle in the opposite direction of traffic and resisting arrest. Several prior arraignment dates were postponed. No reason for the postponements was given in court. Court Commissioner Samantha Allen ordered Estrada held without bail. His next hearing is scheduled June 20. Around 8:30 p.m. on May 28, deputies were called to a house in the 2400 block of Monterey Street to reports that a man had seriously injured his wife. They arrived and found Taylor Danay Dominguez Estrada, 32, with 'severe trauma,' according to sheriff's officials. She was declared dead at the scene. Family members have told 17 News that Rafael Estrada showed up to a party uninvited and slit his wife's throat in front of at least one child. Rafael Estrada was spotted by sheriff's helicopter driving away in a white truck before deputies arrived, officials said. Deputies located and chased the pickup until the pursuit ended about 10 miles away in the 9900 block of Ramos Avenue. Officials said a K-9 was used to take Estrada into custody. Two men are in custody and one is on the loose after an early-morning burglary in Bonney Lake, according to police. Mark Berry, police chief for the Bonney Lake Police Department, told The News Tribune the burglary happened at a local pharmacy at about 3:20 a.m. on Monday. When The News Tribune asked him for the name of the pharmacy, he declined to answer but said it is in the area of 204th Avenue East and state Route 410. Berry said the suspects were three men. When police showed up at the pharmacy, they saw one of the men flee out the window and the two other men drive away in a white SUV, he said. Berry said investigators used the city's Flock license plate camera system 'to identify the suspect vehicle and put that information out.' A K9 from the Puyallup Police Department found the three men driving at 13th Street Southeast and Pioneer Way East in Puyallup, Berry said. The three men then ran out of the car and officers used a drone and a K9 to find two of the suspects, who are now in custody. The third is still at large. 'After a search warrant on the vehicle, we recovered several bags of stolen prescription narcotics from the pharmacy, as well as burglary tools,' Berry said. 'We are currently working with other agencies in the area who have reported similar burglaries.' Berry said the third man was last seen wearing all-black clothing and a mask.
