God Placed Into Deity Protection Program After Witnessing Murder

The Onion16-04-2025

ARLINGTON, VA—In an effort to ensure the continued safety of the almighty being, the U.S. Marshals Service confirmed Monday that God, He Who Created the Heavens and the Earth, has been placed into the Deity Protection Program after witnessing a grisly gangland murder.
Federal agents said they were contacted at 3:47 a.m. by the Lord Our God, who, after telling them He had seen a killing on the Camden, NJ docks that implicated members of the DeCavalcante crime family, expressed fear for His own safety. As soon as officials took His statement, U.S. marshals reportedly rushed to supply the 6,000-year-old Supreme Ruler of the Universe with a new identity and relocate Him to an undisclosed location far from His Heavenly Throne.
'When God called to report the shooting, He wanted our absolute assurance that if He gave testimony, no one would ever find Him or His Son,' said an anonymous FBI source who described the Divine Creator as 'incredibly shaken up' as He discussed the terms of protective custody over a cup of black coffee in a holding room. 'He kept warning us that the guys in the crime family would hunt Him down and do things to Him far worse than death. Unfortunately, most gods in a situation like this don't survive without our assistance.'
'But some very bad people are going away for a long time thanks to the Lord's cooperation,' the source added. 'For that we're grateful.'
The Deity Protection Program, first established by Congress in 1970 after the Hindu god Ganesha became an expert witness in a federal racketeering case, has gone on to shelter thousands of omnipotent beings who were threatened after testifying against crime syndicates, drug traffickers, and extremist groups. While specific details about God's arrangement are unconfirmed, in the past the program has provided new identities, $60,000 in support, help finding a job, and U.S. marshal escorts to divinities ranging from Sumerian fertility idols to Chinese dragon kings.
As of 2024, there were an estimated 900 gods, goddesses, and demigods living in American trailer parks, motels, and safe houses under the auspices of the program, which boasts a 100% success rate for those who follow provided safety protocol.
Agency insiders confirmed that the evidence provided by all-seeing, all-knowing sources often helped to win convictions of the worst criminals. However, many deities struggle with the temptation to return to their former divine life. Officials pointed to the 1983 case of ancient Norse god and federal witness Bældæġ, who was found pierced through the heart with an enchanted spear after abandoning his identity as a line cook at a New Hampshire diner.
'What makes this program so important is that many of these deities have made very powerful enemies in their time,' said domestic crime expert Deborah Tuchman, adding that such gods were not necessarily innocent themselves, and were often linked to trillions of crimes through their history overseeing the universe's endless cycle of birth and death. 'Some of them have suffered for thousands of years after instilling humans with the ability to do evil. They feel trapped.'
'In fact, many only agree to testify in order to reduce their own lengthy sentences chained to a rock or imprisoned in Tartarus,' she continued.
Those familiar with the program described the wrenching decision faced by deities who enter the program, pointing to the difficult challenge of leaving behind billions of supporters, angels who cater to their every whim, and a meaningful role overseeing the cosmos in order to spend the foreseeable future working retail in Middle America. Many have complained of the stress caused by neighbors questioning their supplied backstory after they were spotted resurrecting the dead, swallowing lightning, or flying over the face of the planet.
'Do I miss sitting on a lotus flower all day, entirely at one with the universe's profound stillness? Of course,' said Ron D. Polacheck, the Buddhist being of infinite compassion formerly known as Avalokiteśhvara, who now travels the world speaking to audiences about his decades spent in hiding. 'From the second you sign that agreement, you're just some regular jerk. Nothing tastes as good. Your neighbors don't know that you used to be somebody big, someone really important. You keep asking yourself, 'What the hell am I doing working at a hardware store? I'm the Awakened One, for Christ's sake.' But it beats getting tracked down by those lunatics in the Medellín Cartel.'
'Plus, once you get used to it, Kenosha isn't so bad,' the awakened one added.

Proud Boys Sue DOJ For $100 Million Over Jan. 6 Arrests

On his first day in office, President Donald Trump issued a blanket pardon to more than 1,500 people charged in the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection. But it still wasn't enough. Now, five Proud Boys leaders are suing the Department of Justice (DOJ) over their prosecutions and asking the government to surrender millions. The lawsuit, filed by Dominic Pezzola, Henry 'Enrique' Tarrio, Ethan Nordean, Joe Biggs, and Zachary Rehl, asks the government to pay them $100 million in restitution, despite the fact that the latter four were found guilty of engaging in a seditious 2021 conspiracy to keep Trump in power. Two years after the riot, Tarrio, Nordean, Biggs and Rehl were found guilty of plotting to oppose Congress' election certification by force. Pezzola was the only one who was acquitted of seditious conspiracy but was still found guilty of assaulting police, stealing a riot shield, smashing a window breached by rioters, conspiring to impede lawmakers and police, and more. The five men filed the lawsuit Friday in Florida, putting the ball in Trump's court to either defend the prosecutions or pay an exorbitant sum at taxpayers' expense. The Proud Boys is a far-right militant organization that promotes political violence and embraces misogynistic, xenophobic, and anti-LGBTQ+ ideologies. If the DOJ decides to pay the Proud Boys members, many Democrats worry that it could symbolize the president's willingness to outwardly sanction political violence and empower extremists. In the pardon proclamation announced on Jan. 20, Trump noted that the controversial mercy 'ends a grave national injustice that has been perpetrated upon the American people over the last four years and begins a process of national reconciliation.' Prior to the pardons, Tarrio, Nordean, Biggs, Rehl, and Pezzola were each sentenced to 22, 18, 17, 15, and 10 years in prison, respectively. The Proud Boys members claim there was an 'egregious and systemic abuse of the legal system and the United States Constitution to punish and oppress political allies of President Trump, by any and all means necessary, legal, or illegal.' 'A settlement would suggest that the violence of January 6 was entirely justified,' Matthew Dallek, a political historian at The George Washington University, told The Washington Post. 'It would say to the country that these Proud Boys who were convicted in a court of law, in a fair trial, were wrongfully prosecuted and victims. It just turns the entire day on its head.' The insurrection interrupted Congress' attempt to certify former President Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 election. After a mob stormed the Capitol, five people died in or immediately after the violence and 140 officers were assaulted. The Daily Beast has reached out to the Trump administration for comment.

Mom wants answers after Miami rapper gunned downed in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The mother of a rising rapper who was gunned down in Memphis wants to know why he was killed and wants police to catch all the people responsible. Toya Redwing is talking for the first time about her son's death on March 22 near the FedEx Forum. 1 dead, 1 injured in shooting downtown Letorian Hunt, 27, also known as Sayso P, was shot and killed outside the Westin Hotel. Houston Rapper Sauce Walka, whose real name is Albert Walker Mondane, was also wounded when at least three people jumped out of a white Charger and opened fire. Redwing said her son was born and raised in Memphis but lived in Miami. He was in town to visit a sick relative and had been looking forward to coming home. He had only been at the hotel a couple of days before the shooting. 'I want to know who did this. I want to know who sent them. This is what I told the detectives. These boys didn't do this on their own, at least I don't think so,' said Redwing. 'I don't think he was the intended target.' Shortly after the shooting, the 2021 Dodge Charger 392 Scat Pack was recovered, and police issued a warrant for Jayden Dandridge, 21, for first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder. Last week, Dandridge was found dead in Houston. His death was ruled a homicide. 'I was pretty much numb. I didn't cry or grieve for him. He killed my son, and I still want answers,' Redwing said. 'I can't get to the bottom of it if they are all dead.' Redwing said her son wanted to leave Memphis because of the violence. She said he had opened a recording studio in Miami and recently signed a distribution deal with Sauce Walka's record label. Suspect in downtown Memphis shooting found dead in Houston: MPD She said Hunt was kind and generous, always had a smile on his face, and was finally realizing his dreams. Redwing said her son was her best friend, and the pain of his loss has been unlike anything she has experienced before. 'The fact that he won't ever have children. I won't know what my grandkids look like. I won't know if he will have beautiful little daughters or little boys,' said Redwing. 'Watching his growth from a young boy to the man he had become was amazing.' Redwing said Memphis police are currently outmanned and outgunned. She hopes the FBI will step in, as promised, to help, but believes people in the community also need to get involved to stop the crime. The rapper's mom said she would like to start a foundation to help other mothers dealing with the same kind of grief. She also wants to provide resources to young people who are falling through the cracks and committing these acts of violence. 'I've heard, why do you care about them. Screw them. Those people killed your kid,' said Redwing. 'I can't say that with a straight face and be me. They need to be held accountable, but I do know a lot of these kids want a way out.' Redwing said she wants to do something to keep her son's memory alive and show that his life mattered. Hunt was buried at sea in Miami. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
