Vizhinjam International Seaport
will require double the number of workers in three years when the rest of the port is completed by extending the berth. Companies that work at the port, offering security, mooring, driver and technician services are expecting to double their workforce.The breakwater will be extended and two more berths will be added.
The work will be completed in 2028, which will help the port handle around five million containers a year. The capacity addition means a requirement for more people to handle the work.The port currently employs around 700 people. The govt-run skill training centre has already trained more than 300 people and another 100 are undergoing training based on immediate requirements. The requirement for staff is informed to the govt-run skill training centre, which will recruit more people from

and Vizhinjam and train them.Manoj Nair of Waterline Shipping, which handles the mooring of ships, said they have around 20 staff.

Symbiosis Skills University launches BTech in defence technology
Pune: Considering the country's growing need for defence technology and the increasing role of the private sector in this field, Symbiosis Skills and Professional University has launched a BTech course in defence technology starting from the academic year 2025–26. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Swati Mujumdar, pro-chancellor of the university, said that about 70% of the course would be practical-based. In addition, the university has signed MoUs with several companies working in the sector, which will enable internships for students. Mujumdar further said that the syllabus is being designed in coordination with industry experts to ensure students are equipped for emerging job roles in the defence industry as well as for entrepreneurship, if they choose to pursue it. Manish Bharadwaj, technical advisor to the chairman of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), spoke about the importance of technology in warfare, as reflected in Operation Sindoor, and how DRDO products performed well across various sectors. "With all the networking and drones, it is a technological milestone that India achieved, and the world witnessed the power of our systems," he said. He also emphasised the need for more research and innovation in the defence sector and called for greater collaboration among academia, industry, and govt for the benefit of the nation.

Indore: As Covid-19 cases are witnessing an uptick, manufacturers of Ayurvedic and herbal products in Indore have ramped up their production capacities, anticipating a surge in demand for immunity-boosting products. Usually, summers remain the lean season for immunity booster syrups and tablets, but the resurgence of Covid-19 cases led to a jump in enquiries, prompting many units to prepare for increased production ahead of their usual season. Ayush Nirmata Sangh secretary Ashish Dubey said, "We are anticipating a surge in demand for immunity boosters as cases of Covid-19 again started to increase. Many units started preparations and are gradually increasing production." Another manufacturer owner of a local Ayurvedic firm Ravi Kumar said, "We saw an increase in enquiries for our immunity products. To meet this demand, we are expanding our operations to ensure we can deliver quality products to our customers promptly. Also, monsoon and winters are main demand period of Ayurvedic products when demand rises."
